Too Good To Go

Has anyone reserved magic bags from the 'Too Good To Go' app with any success or interesting results? Seems an interesting concept where you pay between £3-£5 for a mystery bag of food which I guess hasn't been sold that day and will likely go to waste. I'm intrigued to try it but interested to hear if anyone has experience of it. Not keen on ending up with a rock hard baguette and petrol station sandwich for my efforts! Grin

Mine only has Costa and Spar. I haven't been tempted. Costa will just be old pastries and cake, not filling and nutritious stuff so a waste of £3.50 really. I imagine the Spar will just be whatever is out of date and hasn't sold so random selection of stuff.
If I lived near a good takeaway or a greengrocer or large supermarket who were taking part, it might be more worthwhile.

No good expierences.
Loaf of bread that expired that day
Some limp lettuce and tomatoes.
A few cheap bits and Bob's.
Thought it might have been bad luck but next one was similar.

I did order one that came from a restaurant. That was a complete waste of money as well.

Our local coop and nose do them. Had fantastic results, especially if you are the only one collecting that day! The shop near work puts up 4 every day. I watch the app and if they are all left then I know I can get a good deal for dinner or the freezer for dinner later and collect on the way home.

Used it many times for M & S and can highly recommend.

There was a massive thread on this about a year ago

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/4306345-too-good-to-go-food-waste-app-anyone-else-use-it

I signed up after reading the thread. In my experience:
Morrisons - really good value, lots of fruit and veg but can be quite random
M&S/BP garage - usually pretty good, last couple have been their posh lasagne ready meals serving 2 which are £8 each, fruit pots, desserts etc. Sometimes sandwiches
Starbucks/Costa - not a fan, but only because the original selling price is £3.50 a cake so even for a £12 value bag you get 4 cakes.
Greggs - again, not a fan but only because we have a Gregg's outlet near us which sells stuff cheap and you can choose what you want.

Yes got a big bag from Costa today and Greggs last week.
I pretty much stick to bakeries. Morrisons was tons Of lettuce and similar veggies, pretty useless for us.

I’ve had some decent ones. Am on Fylde Coast.

Local greengrocer - really good selection of fruit and veg and fresh herbs, will use next time I’m able to collect at their times.

Town centre grocer - hmm okay I suppose but a few bits probably too out of date/ icky for the rules - probably won’t use again. But a young couple outside asked what I was doing (had work ID on and I think maybe they were worried the place they’d bought stuff from was about to be closed Grin )and they said they’d download it so that was nice..

Big Morrison’s - yep excellent. Good variety. Put the gf crumpets on olio and they were collected sharpish.

Garden centre that has a Sainsbury’s inside - very impressed, the Parmesan alone was as much as the bag if it was full price.

Next time the family come up and I’m doing a buffet I plan to stalk somewhere a 20 minute drive away that has Cinnabon items.

It’s very hit and miss I think. I make a lot of soup which helps!

I love it!! We get a really good one from Londis which is £3.29 and about £15/20 worth of food, some of it needs eating that day but I've had stuff with weeks left on. The local carvery does it too and that's great value. Most of the outlets are rated by previous customers too so you can get the gist of what's good and what's not. There is a Carribbean takeaway near us that does it and everyone raves about it.
