Happy New Year lovelies

Gensola · 01/01/2021 09:15

Happy new year!

NY resolutions:
-221 workouts (30 mins at least, get sweaty) in 2021
-15000 steps a day
-No booze until end of next IVF cycle (mid Feb after hopefully a FET and TWW)
-Read every day even if just for 10 mins
-French each day to prep for my big exam in June (even though I know it will prob be cancelled because of stupid virus)
-pay off our credit cards and other debt and then save that money each month
-live on a budget!!!

lifelongfrugaleer · 01/01/2021 09:39

I don't have any resolutions. I do feel like I need a hobby thought. Hmm

Unescorted · 01/01/2021 09:53

I don't have any specific ones. I am not feeling any burning need to make any this year. The uncertainty is just about manageable if I go with the flow. If I make resolutions and can't keep them due to things I can't do anything about then it gives me something to be disappointed in. I find a semi permanent state of yeah whatever is my coping strategy.

I'm the same Unescorted, I need to just not care/be invested in much to get through it

lifelongfrugaleer · 01/01/2021 10:02

Likewise. I'm just about hanging on. Not going to set myself up to fail

Taytocrisps · 01/01/2021 10:28

Happy New Year everyone. I tend not to make resolutions. I gave the cats an extra feed late last night (around 1 a.m.) and got a well deserved lie on as a result. Had a lovely sleep and woke at 9. It's a lovely, sunny, frosty morning here.

DD has agreed to go for a walk with me today (she hates walking:-)). Someone was telling me there's a borrow box at the far end of the town, so I'll check it out - that might make for some frugal reading in 2021.

I made chicken enchiladas yesterday and I did enough for two days, so no need to cook dinner. I do need to clear/clean out the fridge though. I meant to do it yesterday but I was out of compost bags.

SingToTheSky · 01/01/2021 10:36

Happy new year frugaleers! ❤️

I watched a video about resolutions the other day and one that really struck me was “allow yourself to start over multiple times” as a resolution in itself. Being able to dust yourself off and try again (with whatever you’re trying to achieve, habits etc) if you need to. I really like that as I tend towards the all or nothing type thinking!

NYE was a bit flat here so I’m not feeling very motivated this morning. I think everyone else is still asleep :o

Wolfcub · 01/01/2021 10:57

Smoked salmon bagels for breakfast and fishy pie for tea. We're doing fish Friday in a big way today Grin

SnugglySnerd · 01/01/2021 10:57

Happy new year all!

Let's hope it is better than 2021!

No resolutions here either, I'm just going to try and plan some things to look forward to I think e.g. holiday (in UK) and some little treats.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 01/01/2021 11:01

Happy new year everyone!!

Hope you all had nice evenings.

We made it to midnight playing The Game of Life which dd got for Christmas and we both really enjoyed 😁 was nice to feel rich for a moment even if it's just fake money 🤣

I'm hoping for a better 2021 hopefully one in which dd recovers from the ED and gets on okay at school.

For me I'm hoping for increasing confidence and knowledge at work and hopefully a good spring and summer once covid buggers off!!

Wolfcub · 01/01/2021 16:18

Played games with ds for most of the day. One lot of washing done but not hung up because I can't face the stairs.

Street gritted from my house to the corner in the hope I can get out in the car tomorrow

Parsnip and potato mash made for fishy pie - any instant pot owner who hasn't used theirs to make mash yet honestly it'll change your life

Christmas pud is in the slow cooker having its second steam ready for pudding.

Pilates done, testament to how stiff I've gone over the past few weeks it was hard work

Going to open some Prosecco in a while I think

maddenlightfoot · 01/01/2021 17:38

Wolf I live the idea of your slow cooker and instant pot chugging along happily together on the kitchen counter! Gotta love a kitchen gadget - we just invested in a new food processor for Christmas!

Girlie my dd got The Game of Life too - it's really good!

Wintery walk today and saw some snow once we got out beyond the city. Met some friends and took along mulled wine for half way refreshments (and hair of the dog!).

I'm hoping to be much more mindful of NSDs this year. I had a message from dds GoHenry telling me I need to top up. Almost did it automatically but will wait for a 'spend day' instead. A spend day might be tomorrow as one of our front lights on the car has stopped working so may have to pop to Halfords tomorrow

Freezer bolognaise for tea and more wine drinking - have to drink the house dry before dryuary starts on Monday 🤣

ememem84 · 01/01/2021 19:22

Dry veganuary day one done. I’m dying for a wine. But am not caving. It’s become Normal so that’s not good.

Unescorted · 01/01/2021 19:49

em that is why I did Stoptober. It was easier than I expected and I re-found my love of strong tea.

madden my food processor is my most used kitchen gadget. I think it has paid for itself via the medium of homemade hummus.

That is a challenge - what is the kitchen gadget that has saved you the most money and what wouldn't you bother with? Mine is my spice coffee grinder, cost £10 - I can quickly make up any spice mix I fancy instead of buying really expensive mixes. One I wouldn't bother with - juicer or pasta machine. Both given to me... both collecting dust.

Tonight's dinner is chicken, butterbean and orzo soup. Super quick, light and hopefully tasty.

lifelongfrugaleer · 01/01/2021 20:51

Bread maker, used every week. Least used food processor jug attachment. I occasionally used the processor but really only need a smaller one

maddenlightfoot · 01/01/2021 21:19

Totally! I've missed homemade hummus!

See, we have a bread maker gathering dust. It was gifted to us and thought it would be great for homemade gluten-free bread (for dh), but the bread it's made is basically like cake and I'm not so fussed about bread (I'd swap for any other carb any day of the week!). I've also a soup maker which I like but the portions are so tiny! I need a vat of soup!

Mrsmadevans · 01/01/2021 21:48

Happy New Year everyone Smile
Posted here this morning but it didn't post Hmm story of my life Grin

ememem84 · 01/01/2021 22:56

Ours is the stand mixer. Dh uses for sourdough ag least twice a week. Also pizza dough.

Least used probably was pasta machine which we ditched in the move.

I keep toying with a toastie machine but cleaning it.....

I also want a blender. We used to have a really good cheap one but she broke. So now just have a stick blender. Which does the job but I liked my juggy blender. We have a magimix which probably has blender attachments. But haven’t bought one.

lifelongfrugaleer · 02/01/2021 08:09

I make dough in bead maker then cook in oven.

Have to do a full food shop today as not done one since 23rd.
Lots of white stuff from the sky so Wii be chaos on the roads.
House viewing at 11.

SnugglySnerd · 02/01/2021 08:45

Mine would be the stick blender, ideal for whizzing up soup but also used for the occasional smoothie if we have a lot of fruit going over. It also has a little attachment for chopping herbs, making pesto etc. Really useful.
We had a Magimix as a wedding present which also sees a lot of use, especially for making things like pastry or crumble toppings, grating large amounts of veg e.g. for carrot cake and for chopping nuts. They are very expensive to buy though.

northender · 02/01/2021 09:09

Happy new year!
My Braun stick blender is my favourite, but I also love my antique (from the 1960s) kenwood chef
New year was quiet here, we have reached the stage where our doc stay up later than us!

Bornlazy · 02/01/2021 09:20

Happy New Year everyone 🎉 Wishing you all a better, less stressful year x

I was working yesterday so no late night for me on the 31st. Not a huge fan of New Year anyway but I always have my family for dinner either on the 1st or 2nd but not this year obviously. Had to make do with a FaceTime catchup.

I don't really do resolutions either. I tend to think of January as quite a long depressing month so any added pressures would fail for me. Getting to the end of it without dipping into saving is as much as I'm hoping for.

My most used gadgets are my slow cooker and my pressure cooker. Wolf how do you do mash in the instapot? Looking forward to having my life changed Grin

Not looking forward to taking down my decorations. Think this is the first year that they have not got on my nerves so feel the place will look quite depressing without them.

SnugglySnerd · 02/01/2021 09:35

I feel the same about the decorations Born, just admiting our tree and thinking it's a shame to have to take it down. Have persuaded dh we will do it tomorrow instead of today. Sunny here so going out for a walk.
