Universal credit compliance telephone interview.

Today I've had a telephone compliance interview. Apparently they were informed a year ago that my son wasn't in college and that I had twenty thousand pounds in savings! I was definitely reported by my ex husband.
My son was and still is in college. They said I didn't need to prove that as my word was good enough.
Anyway they've asked me and my partner to provide them with statements from January 2019 (when we first claimed Universal Credit) till present day.
I'm disgusted that it's taken this long for them to notify me as I now have to basically print off double the amount of pages.
Does anyone know if they can do this a year after an allegation was made?
I've absolutely nothing to hide and only wish I had any savings at all.

I presume it's a monthly bank statement they want, so 24 statements ? yes I guess if they want proof they can ask for it. If you don't supply it then I think they can find ways to check themselves if they need to.

Can your bank send you any sort of summary? My bank sends me a yearly statement that says how much went in and how much went out. Would something like that be enough? As it would show there wasn't all that money sitting there in savings?

Thank you both for replying. I am going to speak to the bank and see if they're willing to do this. It would certainly be easier than having to print statements from 2 accounts.
