Unescorted it's not for that reason, the previous occupant died a year ago! Their solicitor is only ping ponging half answers to my solicitor. My solicitor now engaging directly with engineers so will see what comes of that. At least my solicitor is proactive.

Iwont think of what you'll save being at home that day, cost of commute, lunch, childcare???
I use YNAB but you can just use the theories of it without paying for it if you wish. I've a link if anyone wants it pm me

Eem I'd be reluctant to spend that on my own teeth!

Wow lonely that's sprouted, had to google what it was! Any pics? Would you recommend it?

I just converted my real rewards points into €10 against my electricity bill and discovered I get 1 real reward point per €3 paid to my electricity account, I put it €20 weekly, have just changed that to €21 Grin as Tesco say every little helps Grin
And recommended shop and scan to a friend which will garner me 500points €5!

Mrsmad none of my delays are because of covid as far as I can see. She must be so tormented as housing purchases move quicker over there I believe.

Welcome to all new people

Lovely and bright em

I've brows booked for Sat & hoping to book my hair if I don't have dc.

SnugglySnerd · 02/07/2020 14:10

Ooh fancy new thing to view all the op's posts!

Nice nails, Em.

Happierwithouthim · 02/07/2020 14:31

@Gintime74
I find YNAB good, have been using it a few years, I schedule all my routine bills and annual bills in it and have not been overdrawn or missed a bill payment since getting it. I love it as I can search what something cost or how long it is since I purchased an item etc

Wolfcub · 02/07/2020 16:35

Gin I don't use an app I use the reminders function on my phone and have my fixed spends and allowances in that and then tick the spends off as complete and put notes against the allowances each month

Gintime74 · 02/07/2020 17:25

Thank you, I have tried YNAB but can’t get on with it. Thanks Wolf, I may try using my calender and reminders.
I’ve just packed a box of books to send to ziffit. £20 and listed a few clothes on eBay. I’m doing it for decluttering value But nice to make a few pounds.

Wolfcub · 02/07/2020 18:24

Frugal and inventive dinner. I had a sliced raw chicken breast in the freezer a pack of chorizo that's been in the fridge forever and a fennel bulb that I'd used all the stalks and fronds of

That became fennel, chorizo, spinach and chicken orzotto topped with a generous spoon of creme fraiche that went out of date today

xmummy2princesx · 02/07/2020 18:29

Hello can I join plz? Single mum of 2 and I’m crap at budgeting lol. It would be nice 2 get sum help with it and be a bit more frugal.

Unescorted · 02/07/2020 18:51

Mine is just a spreadsheet - Each month I take off the monthly and 1/12th of annual bills off on payday. Each time I spend anything I take it off the running total. At the end of each month I take any balance & put it in savings.

Wolf that sounds lush. I am trying to get excited by sausages, beans and chips.

Happier - I guess they won't be waiting to move anytime soon.

xmummy2princesx · 02/07/2020 18:56

Thank u unescorted I currently have no saving so I need 2 start saving sumthinng

lifelongfrugaleer · 02/07/2020 20:10

Hi mummy do you have debt?

Nsd but put a click and collect for Sainsbury's tomorrow £90

xmummy2princesx · 02/07/2020 20:21

life no no debt but on quite low earnings and most my money just gets spent. But I would like 2 be able 2 have savings for as the kids grow

ememem84 · 02/07/2020 20:40

Spendy today. £85 in next sale on next size up bits for kiddos and a couple of bits for my friends little girl. She’s just found out she’s going to be a big sister! So excited for them!!!

Huge news here. Ds did a poo on the toilet at nursery and stayed in the same pair of pants all day no accidents. and he’s just done another one on toilet now literally bursting with pride here. Never thought I’d be this proud about a poo.

I dont Use a budget app. I probably should. But don’t. I tend to use my credit card for my things (as I get reward points) and Dhs amex for joint things (again point) and pay them off (mostly) in full every month. I know I know

Today’s the first time in about 4 months that I’ve had my nails done. So lovely!

And my new hangers arrived so I need to start switching things over and facing the issue of the wardrobe

Huuuuge Ocado shop but included water filter jug to try and get ds to drink something. Out tap water constantly has bits in it it's vile

lifelongfrugaleer · 02/07/2020 20:55

That's good then.
Ok back earlier on this thread are some start off tips for you and the other new joiners

DrMadelineMaxwell · 02/07/2020 21:59

LARGE spending week for our household this week.

Both teen/young adult DDs have decided to replace their phones from their savings - £250 each.

And the scaffolding has come down and the painting on the house is finished so I've spent £1140 paying for that today too. Ouch!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 02/07/2020 21:59

But I won £25 on the premium bonds and DH won £50. So a small gain in return.

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 02/07/2020 22:02

Hi to new people👋🏻

NSD today, about time I had one!

Em, lovely nails.

Does anyone have any recipes for gnocchi?
I was gifted a pack from work and have never used it before, any ideas, preferably vegan, but don't worry to much I can always veganise it.
Thanks Smile

Kopsy · 02/07/2020 22:11

Hi, hope it's OK to join Smile

I don't really know what I'm doing or how this thread works Grin but I'm using Monzo to try and control where my money goes a bit more, and to stop frittering so much. DH and I are hoping to move house (if we can ever sell ours!!) so I'm trying to save hard with that in mind.

ememem84 · 02/07/2020 22:15

Hello to the newcomers!!!!

kopsy the thread works as you want it to really. Some of us are strict and post balances and spends etc (I did this for a while and found it helped), others post spends etc. Some use budgeting apps some don’t.

I think as long as it makes you accountable it helps.

Plus we’re friendly. And it’s a nice safe space.

SnugglySnerd · 02/07/2020 22:26

Welcome newcomers!
I need to get back in the habit of posting spends as it did help me to restrain myself knowing I'd have to confess Grin

Just got into fresh bed sheets. Is there any better feeling? Hopefully the dcs will let me spend some time asleep tonight...

Kopsy · 02/07/2020 22:33

Thank you Smile

No spends today and hoping to keep that up tomorrow too. Trying to remember to take lunch to work as I've always been rubbish at that!

I think the "pay yourself like it's a bill" is good advice, I'm enjoying seeing the savings creeping up! We're not spending anywhere near as much as we were pre-lockdown now that we're not having meals out etc. (That and I've calmed my online shopping down a lot Grin)

Unescorted · 02/07/2020 22:34

This thread woks how you want it to work - I first used it when I was paying off a huge amount of debt. It kept me sane when my pay check ran out after 10 days every month. Moral support more than anything - for 6 years this lot kept me from giving up. They are very skilled at making meals from the dregs of the fridge or finding the cheapest deal on things and talking you out of buying things.

Now I mostly talk shit... speaking of which em that is amazing news. Grin

Curvy any random smooth pasta sauce works well. Toss the Gnocchi in water on a rolling boil, when they float to the top they are cooked - I scoop them out with a slotted spoon. I like them with Pesto and an enormous amount of cheese.... not so vegan.

DrM it must be lovely to have light in your house again.

Ok this is very sad, but I am very proud of myself ... I have got a pop up twisting mechanism to work. It is so tempting to use it to have a hand flick the Vs when the book opens. This is so much more fun that learning a language in lockdown.

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 02/07/2020 22:39

Thanks Unescorted, I have vegan pesto and cheese, will give that a try soon!
And well done on your pop up, must be so much fun Grin

Mrsmadevans · 02/07/2020 22:57

Em smashing nails & well done to your Ds Smile
Happier Dd2 has taken to emailing the seller's solicitor & her own solicitor to get them shifting! Hmm
Welcome to all new ppl, it's a lovely, supportive place to be with very kind, caring ppl Smile

Wolfcub · 02/07/2020 23:04

Gnocchi - roast in the over on a tray slathered in olive oil and salt. Eat as a side like a roastie or even better eat with wine and dip !

Option two - tommy and veg based sauce, gnocchi, in the oven with cheese on top. Gnocchi bake
