Second time in a few months I’ve bought a fresh chicken from Aldi and when I’ve got it out of fridge Five days it’s turned yellow and smells rotten, even though it’s still three days within its sell by date.
Has anyone else experienced this?

No, but I had it with Sainsbury's and Tesco quite frequently when I shopped there, hence why I changed (among other reasons). Take it back and get a refund or at least email them to let them know. I find Aldi really do listen to customers.

I've had this twice with sainsbury's, once with aldi and also once memorably with our Christmas meat from our very good local butcher! (Luckily I realised late on Christmas eve and they delivered a new one to my house when I phoned). I don't think it's a particular shop problem. We freeze meat or use quickly as much as possible.

OhmygodDont · 19/10/2022 07:33

I’ve not personally but Tesco tends to hit the papers most years for their gone off lamb my neighbour got caught out a few times, a friend had a Turkey for Christmas from Asda turn out bad. Most of the meat actually all comes from the same place and is then just shipped to different companies warehouses so the odds are whatever aldi had that made it bad the other half the load that went to say Tesco would also be bad.

xogossipgirlxo · 19/10/2022 11:51

I haven't but heard from few people it happened to them not only with Aldi meat. I freeze meat straightaway, unless I want to use it the next day.

Bigoldmachine · 19/10/2022 12:11

Yep I’ve had this too many times too, such a waste. Sometimes even only 2 days after buying and well within use by date.

I don’t buy Aldi meat anymore because of it. Sick of wasting.

so I go to the local butcher every month and stock up for the freezer. Eat less meat as a result, but it is higher quality and none is wasted! (Plus it is tastier and I’m sure had a better life as a lot is from local farms).

ZeroFuchsGiven · 19/10/2022 12:12

The only meat I buy in aldi now is steaks, stopped buying fresh meat a few years ago as it often went off before the date, especially chicken!

Yes me although turned out our fridge was on the blink and not as cold as it should have been but we hadn't noticed.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 19/10/2022 13:41

I won’t buy meat from Lidl or Aldi. They always seem to go off before use. They go sort of grey or white like the packs not been sealed properly.

Rarely buy veg or fruit as it does the same. It’s just false economy.

justasking111 · 19/10/2022 13:50

Yes Aldi meat is rank even if you open it the same day it's gorn orf. Ditto vegetables. I agree it's the chain where something goes wrong. I've had the same with Asda. Not yet with Lidl or Tesco.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 19/10/2022 13:52

I haven't had it from Aldi but I have from Tesco.

I wouldn't keep chicken in a fridge for five days even if the dates were good, of I'm not using it the next day I freeze it and defrost it when I need it. Chicken sitting in plastic isn't good.

AdoraBell · 19/10/2022 13:54

I also don’t store fresh meat, especially chicken for more than 2 days, but as the sell /use by date on your purchase is way off I would contact the store manager.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 19/10/2022 13:59

Drop them a message, they will replace it. I have had similar once or twice and they are always really good about it.

Yes, also had this with Aldi chicken, and also badly sealed packaging meaning the raw chicken juices leak over my other shopping in my bags. Multiple times.

Me too it's so annoying. I stopped buying aldis chicken after finding it off even as soon as I got it home. I don't know how people aren't ill if they don't have a sense of smell.
Also milk goes off really fast.

HermioneWeasley · 19/10/2022 14:15

Yes, had this with a packet
of mince. Never bought meat there again and never had this with any other supermarket (well apart from the chicken from Tesco I left in the car for 24 hours in the heat of summer, but I reckon that’s not their fault!).

Echo40 · 25/10/2022 06:48

I wonder as people mentioned lots of retailers..
If shortage of c02 is effecting the longevity of the meat.
As vacum packed meat uses c02
As does supermarket chillers.
So many chillers In nearest morrisions and leaking loads of water
