Are you registering to send the kids in Life. The guidance says only one parent has to be a key worker.

Girlie and Love should both be covered too

Mrsmadevans · 20/03/2020 07:56

Good morning everyone 😀
Off to Mum's soon. Her and Bob have decided to still see each other over the following months and are thinking of Mum moving into his house , this is a huge development and I think it would be beneficial to them both. We could still go up and care for her and do all her care. Bob doesn't have any visitors at all. So it's all up in the air really 🤯my sister and brother would hate it but Mum has been so much happier since Bob.
It's a year now that Dad died & she was so distraught there is such a difference in her now🤗
So we shall have to see what happens .
Have no shopping plans , caring for Mum then home .
Dd2 house buying looks like it is going to take longer , had a letter from the solicitor to ask how long her mortgage offer was valid for 🙄🥺 never mind 😊 it will all be ok in the end .
Take care everyone 💐

lifelongfrugaleer · 20/03/2020 08:17

No wolf. They can stay with me. I'm not on anything covid19 front line

Bornlazy · 20/03/2020 08:54

Morning everyone. It’s a lovely crisp, sunny day here and looking outside for a moment you forget the chaos and turmoil that’s all around us.

I watched a programme last night that made me feel a little less despondent. It was on Scotland Tonight and was an interview with Jason Leitch who is Scotland’s National Clinical director and he was very knowledgeable whilst being completely relatable.

My dm seems to be getting her head round the idea of staying in and is actually now trying to convince friends to do the same. It’s a lot to take in for all of us but change is always harder the older you get. When the better weather comes in and she can get out in her garden I’m sure she’ll feel better and we can visit more to sit outside. Mrs I think you’re doing the right thing with your dm. She needs you in her life to survive and I’m sure you will be as careful as you can be.

The shopping situation is very difficult. When I am able to I will need to shop for my dm, my aunt and myself obviously. I can see me being in and out of the shops multiple times on multiple days trying to buy enough for all of us.

My ds unfortunately will do very poorly in his exams this year. He didn’t do well in his prelims and with the recent loss of his dgm he has not been great at school. I am trying to be pragmatic about it as he has a college place for next year and he is not at all bothered 🙄 The upside is I won’t have the added stress of his exams during what will undoubtedly be the most stressful period of my nursing career.

I won’t need to register my kids for school as dh is able to work from home and they are older anyway (youngest is 14) but it’s great that this is available or those that need it. Curvy I hope it all works out well at your nursery and isn’t too stressful.

North Flowers I hope your dh starts to feel better soon it must be very stressful for you all but how lovely that people are lending a hand.

Wolfcub · 20/03/2020 10:44

Florists £35 I felt very sad for them they can't get anymore flower deliveries they will run out today and that will be it

£30 diesel so tank is full

£30 coop not that there was much there but got a few bits for sandwiches next week for ds but need to make some bread

Withdrew cash because I've seen a few shops struggling with card payments which I think is linked to so many of us on phones working from home

LaneBoy · 20/03/2020 11:27

Well that’s odd. Got an email saying we are still eligible to send Cagletini to nursery. Either they’ve misunderstood DH’s occupation as being in the “food” section of the key worker list (works for Co-op but it’s actually the charity/community side which he does from home a few hours a week, he’s not worked in the shop for over a year) or it’s because we are on an Early Help Plan. I thought the threshold for vulnerable was having an actual social worker. Or it could just be because DD1 is on FSM. But either way we said no thanks as DH and I are both in the at slightly higher risk group due to autoimmune/neurological stuff so we’d rather just batten down the hatches anyway.

Skype has signed me out and wants me to log in on a browser so I’ll catch up on the group chat later. I’m in bed trying (and failing clearly!) to sleep this virus (still pretty sure it’s not THE virus, I’m not coughing) off.

ChristmasSeacow · 20/03/2020 11:34

Well, work (large central London acute trust) has confirmed that I am likely to be redeployed to directly manage some front line services through the crisis - it’s not my role now but I have done It in the recent past so I can slot in. I’m happy to pitch in, though a little trepidatious about the scale of what’s coming and not excited about the ongoing commuting on the tube 😷. Also, as we don’t have granny day care any more I am going to have to see whether I can register the little one for more days at nursery than she currently does, assuming they do stay open, as I will definitely need to be on site.

It’s really tricky - I think most people who are having to work from home with kids in the house are just muddling along, whereas DH (very square!) is saying that he will have to declare it to his employer and take unpaid leave. In normal times I’d do the same but these are not normal times, this will go on for months and I don’t think that’s what most of the home-working population will be doing. Because frankly most families, ours included, can’t afford to halve their income. What would you do /are you doing about wfh with kids?

Other than that, Ocado is coming soon. It’s a huuuuge order as I got quite a bit for us, some bits for a neighbour and a big pile for the food bank. I will be a little embarrassed when it turns up Blush. Ocado CEO is encouraging people to share delivery slots though, to reduce the pressure. The whole website is completely off line now!

I was going to order a desk and chair from ikea for the spare room but I might hold off now as I might not be wfh for long.

Moving in with Bob - great idea! Loneliness is hard at the best of times, and then you’d only have one household to look after. Life is too short to worry what other people think, and particularly now.

Hang on in, everybody!

LaneBoy · 20/03/2020 11:35

School have done the free school meal thing as packed lunches to be collected each day. So loads of kids can still go and get lunch... and spread the virus?! I prefer the voucher idea really

ChristmasSeacow · 20/03/2020 11:41

Hi Lane! cross posted there.

I don’t think it will be the FSM as they are not getting places unless other criteria apply. Dunno about the early start thing but I expect it’s their misinterpretation of the job role. I know a few people who are eligible but turning the placements down (mostly people with kids at SEN school) because they would rather reduce contact. We would be sending DS even if I wasn’t a key worker because I think his development and mental health would suffer if he was cut off, and also in our household there is no one who is high risk. He really needs the routine of school and also the social contact... the other kids in his class are planning to stay in touch by Skype, Zoom etc but as he has no social speech he wouldn’t gain much from that. However, I don’t know how he will react to the fact that there will only be about 20-30 kids in the whole school!

Wolfcub · 20/03/2020 12:39

Sea our hr are being stupid about the wfh thing but our direct management are being brilliant so we will all be muddling on doing as much of both as we can. At some point some of us will be deployed to help certain other essential services and have been told we that we may either be deployed into community response teams or they'll look the other way whilst we volunteer. If I were your dh I'd keep quiet. In any event I really expect the govt to make an announcement today or early next week on parents who have to look after children when schools are closed. Martin Lewis was saying he was pushing hard for this last night.

Bread in bread maker. I reckon I have enough flour for three to four small loaves which will hopefully see ds through next week with lunchtime sandwiches until the shopping delivery arrives. Sea like you I have stuff in there for parents and dgm but even so feel guilty. I felt terrible in the coop earlier and I didn't buy much and was careful not to take the last of anything - butter for bread making, crisps for Ds, garlic bread to stretch the pasta, ham for sandwiches etc, oatcakes nothing extravagant (except wine). Are cocopops normally £3 by the way? Some things looked very expensive.

Wolfcub · 20/03/2020 17:42

Currently drying the heal of my last load as breadcrumbs in the oven

lifelongfrugaleer · 20/03/2020 18:17

No wolf the co-op is expensive. Although branded stuff is as well like

Lovemaltesers · 20/03/2020 18:29

At the moment, I think my DC are some of the lucky ones as they will still go to school, 4 days a week. It may reduce when our requirement to be in work reduces but that might not ever happen! We’re expecting to go into work for the next two weeks at least.

I only got confirmed that DC were allowed to go in to school on Monday at 5pm today. One of DPs school office staff were told they were not a key worker, and their children couldn’t go. Guidance is very open to interpretation.

Lovemaltesers · 20/03/2020 18:32

If DM and Bob are ready for it, then it sounds the best plan mrs. They’ll certainly know by the end of it whether it’ll be a long term thing.

Wolfcub · 20/03/2020 18:43

I think that might be it Life, I pretty much never buy branded apart from things like marmite and butter spread and I only usually go to coop for emergency bread or the £5 deal

Wolfcub · 20/03/2020 19:07

Has anyone heard from North?

Accidentalaccountant · 20/03/2020 19:42

Living the mum and Bob romance. This is what we need at the moment.

Accidentalaccountant · 20/03/2020 19:42

Loving.

lifelongfrugaleer · 20/03/2020 19:45

No wolf. Hope she's ok.
Love that Bob is moving in. Good on em

Unescorted · 20/03/2020 19:58

Was she not on yesterday? Hope she is OK.

Mrs your DM & Bob will have a whale of a time without your DSis And DBro looking over her shoulder with Victorian frowns etched on.

Sea Everyone has kids / partners/ postmen/ pets/ life knocking about in the background while they wfh.

northender · 20/03/2020 19:58

I'm here!

northender · 20/03/2020 20:05

Another day juggling too many balls!
Managed to get a delivery of fruit & veg & meat sorted for dparents from the shops that they usually use in local market town. Mum was really pleased & has just told me she has messaged them herself to tell them how much she appreciated the delivery.
Dh is a bit better today but really floored by the illness which I feel sure must be corona. We are keeping him isolated and trying to keep our distance from each other.
I have just found a local company offering free delivery on their wines to local addresses and a 10% discount so that is my job tonight as we are out of wine. Ds and I drank prosecco last night in hysteria I think! It was all that was in the cupboard that appealed to us both.
I'll now read back a bit...

lifelongfrugaleer · 20/03/2020 20:25

We got a lovely message from upon high which basically said. Don't worry about noise and kids/pets when you are trying to work around family life. Happens to everyone and everyone should expect it at some point and treat it with the right attitude/ humour.

northender · 20/03/2020 20:32

Managers get far more out of staff if they can be human and flexible and communicate well.

northender · 20/03/2020 20:34

I'm trying to set up online scrabble to play with mum. Does anyone here play or know a good version to get?
