How are you feeling today?

SnugglySnerd · 01/01/2020 08:08

Thanks Em!

ememem84 · 01/01/2020 08:09

As I posted on the other thread, these are my New Years Resolutions

Be more assertive
More mindful eating
Less screen time
Make time for books and self care ?at least half an hour a day)
Exercise regularly
Drink more water

I’m also doing a no spend until February payday. On non essentials. So no clothes toiletries books shoes make up etc. Unless it’s with a gift card or I have run out of a particular thing.

I did want to get me an Apple Watch. But that can wait until I’ve been paid!

January 2020 sees the return to work for me. Maternity leave is almost over. Dd starts nursery soon. So all Triggers for me to spend I’ve said before I’m an emotional spender so let’s see how I go.

Happy new year! Oh how I love that this shiny new thread starts today 🤩

I'm feeling surprisingly ok this morning. I'm assuming much better than the other grown-ups in the house as I appear to be the only one up with all the kids (I certainly haven't started washing up yet 🤣)

Wolfcub · 01/01/2020 09:20

Happy New Year my lovelies and thank you for the New thread Em

lifelongfrugaleer · 01/01/2020 09:24

Rest up today em.

I had a dreadful nights sleep. Off to jump in the North sea this morning (ds10) and watch the silly buggers (the rest of us)

ememem84 · 01/01/2020 09:24

£343.60 current ac
£1087.74 credit card

Cc needs paying off. Current ac balance is to last until at least 21 jan (usual payday).

I’m not certain whether I’ll get paid on 21 jan or not - need to talk to my ac lady at work.

I’m selling my old phone so need to get that done.

Happy new year you lovely lot! Well it was a turbulent year on the frugal threads, but we survived. Will catch up properly later.

Wolfcub · 01/01/2020 09:59

Financial aims for 2020:

Clear all credit card debt
Pay for everything without credit (the exception being putting something on the card to then pay off before the bill is due thereby incurring no interest and gaining cashback)
Use a discount code wherever possible
Obtain financial consent order and secure decree absolute
Save as much as possibly
Enjoy life!
Fix shower in en suite
Get new kitchen (this one slightly dependant in Costs if divorce and may need to go into next year)
Learn how to fill in a self assessment tax return
Continue charitable giving

marblesgoing · 01/01/2020 10:07

Hay guys please may I join Grin

Happy new year to you all.

My home and personal plans

Get the smart meter ticking slightly less than last year

Pay off a cc and small debts totalling around £1100

Build up a good contingency acc as it's depleted to near on £0 after two large kitchen appliances went bang a new hoover and a car repair

Use my reusable coffee takeaway containers rather than spending over £20 some weeks on costa.

Sat and did a family budget yesterday so we know what's in and out and where we can save for the next 5 months. Then il do another one from June to Dec.

Also really need to upgrade my small car as now have two large rescue dogs and can't get them both or a fortnights worth of shopping into my current boot

isitpossibleto · 01/01/2020 10:09

Can I join? I have no idea what the rules are or where to start, though

CurlsandCurves · 01/01/2020 10:29

Happy new year! Thanks for the new Fred, @ememem84.

Having a lazy day here, no spends predicted.

Laska2Meryls · 01/01/2020 10:44

Happy New year. Frugaleers!

As you know, I have been here before , but am am re-committing now as have finally just retired ( as I have been threatening to for years.!)
Pension income sare ok as ive saved and been in good schemes but it is going to be a challenge, especially as DH income will not be stable for a while. I won't get state pension for another 5years yet and DH longer.
But we have exciting plans for travel a house paid off and no debt ..So frugal but fun is going to be my watchwords from now on.
I know we are lucky in being able to retire early ..

My main challenge is going to be the clothes habit. First thing for this year is to declutter and ebay stuff that I am not going to need anymore.
So looking forward to getting back into it and chatting with you all again. Smile

Happy New Year!
Thanks for the fred em.
Hi Laska, nice to have you back with us, Happy Retirement!
Welcome marbles and isit

LaneBoy · 01/01/2020 12:25

I have name changed. The DCs shall still be referred to as the Caglets though. Wink

Thanks for new thread em I also love that the new thread starts today!

I’m determined to keep up this time, I’ve really lapsed with it last year. I should track my spends too, we are on UC now, things are tight.

Resolutions - a lot of stuff to do with looking after myself better really. Physically and mentally. Building on what I worked on in 2019.

Absolutely heaps to sort out in the house and general life admin too, medical stuff, forms to fill in etc. Hope to get a chance to discuss with DH in the next few days and get a list going.

Hello and welcome to marbles and isit!

SnugglySnerd · 01/01/2020 12:42

Welcome marbles and isit. There aren't any rules. Some of us post daily spends but not everyone does. Just join in!

Should be nsd today. Had a happy thought earlier that this is the year we'll get our 30 funded hours for the dts. That is going to make a huge difference to us financially. First plan is to have a decent holiday and after that we are going to make mortgage overpayments.

Laska2Meryls · 01/01/2020 12:51

Re clothes habit. I may have a few sale items coming but they are 'new non working life' friendly.
I too need to re-lose weight, as since my DM died a yeaerago I regained over a stone after losing it before. (Too many lunches out with DF..which I will have to try and cut down on ). Ihave a family wedding in May and dont want to have to buy a new dress for it .
Food wise, we have not too many leftovers. Iam rather pleased with how we budgeted and catered this year. nice stuff but not far too much as in previous years. Pleased not to have an EU cheese mountain left!

TheresNeverEnoughCheese · 01/01/2020 12:59

New to the thread but joining because I need to get my finances in order this year. I've decided that for the next few months I'm going to record all my expenses on a spreadsheet to see where my money goes and what I can cut back on. I'm going back to work after maternity leave in february but will be working part time so really need to look at making cutbacks as I've blown through my savings while I've been enjoying maternity leave.

pemberleypearl · 01/01/2020 13:11

Can I also join please? For background I' a single mum to 1 DD. Starting a new position in my current work so moving from weekly pay to monthly so particularly need to be frugal this month.

I'm an emotional spender. I love buying toys and books for my DD and friend's kids. I would easily browse Amazon every day and need to kerb this!!

My goals for the first quarter of this year are to save and afford a birthday party for my mum's 60th.
Get credit card paid off (2 more payments to go).
Do a regular food shop each week rather than loads of top up shops.

ememem84 · 01/01/2020 13:22

@pemberleypearl another emotional spender here too!

@Happierwithouthim I need to work out what we owe too - for the new front door and porch and have to sit down and work our direct debits for Dd at nursery. Eeek.

Am also going to try and sell a few bits as the more money I can bring in the better.

I’m going to be frugal but not miserly. So keeping all my “luxuries” (beauticians as part of my self care and gym and riding). If we desperately needed the money id stop these. But for the moment I’m just keeping on.

OP posts:
ememem84 · 01/01/2020 13:24

Also spoke to DJ earlier about overpaying our mortgage. While we’re only on just over 1% interest there seems to be little point in overpaying. Especially as we’ve got nursery fees x2 to pay for. When things change though - when mortgage is up for renewal (in 4 years) will rethink this.

OP posts:
BuddhaAtSea · 01/01/2020 13:37

Hello all!
Mind if I join you?
I am aiming to pay off £900 on a CC (0%till Dec though) and to boost my savings by £5000 this year :)
