Posted too soon... I think my mum may be being unrealistic about how long he will be still here and about the care he will need.

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 25/08/2019 12:58

Hi all.
NSD yesterday and today.

moi, thanks for the tip about the app.
north, sounds like your mum had a wonderful birthday. How do you keep going, you always sound so busy?!
Love, I'm so sorry Flowers

I have to get back to being frugal, spent way to much money, still have to get school shoes for ds2 and ds2, plus P.E kits for both, so will do that either Tuesday or Wednesday.

Hope you all have a lovely Sunday.

maddenlightfoot · 25/08/2019 13:01

Ah love that's so sad and difficult for your family, I'm so sorry to hear that. Was it your dad who was getting a bit confused recently? I think children often see past changes in health and demeanour as all they see is the same grandad they've always loved x

Girliefriendlikescake · 25/08/2019 15:51

Love my dd was very involved in the care of my grandma who had dementia, I think it's good for children to see that looking after people in older age is important. She understood that some of grandmas more challenging behaviour was the illness rather than grandma iyswim (dd was age 4-8yo when grandma was poorly.)

Spendy day here, school shoes were £60 😳 Dd liked them and said they're comfortable so I just handed my debit card over. They'll last a school year.

Another £22 weeks on school trainers.

£22 in Wilkos on bits and pieces.

Dd loved her kayak lesson, there's a regular club so will sign up dd to that. The club is cheap at £30 for 6 lessons that are 1.5 hours long!!

Lovemaltesers · 25/08/2019 16:11

Yes madden that was my dad

I think we will just spend more time with them all together and if he is in the middle of a very confused time then we can explain to DC. Whereas previously my mum was helping with childcare and she can say very insensitive things so probably good to take that opportunity away (which was mostly going to stop in a couple of weeks time when DD2 starts school). I feel bad that we potentially have missed some of the earlier signs of dementia because he has become quieter over the years which we attributed to his deafness. It’s difficult reading about what may be to come for him though, he’s always been stubborn and independent

Littlechocola · 25/08/2019 17:41

I’m sorry @Lovemaltesers it’s so sad.

Littlechocola · 25/08/2019 17:42

Another NSD. Perks of being on nights, I don’t get to go anywhere or do anything Grin

lifelongfrugaleer · 25/08/2019 19:13

Sorry to hear that love. Don't think that you could have seen the signs earlier. There in lies a dark path.

SnugglySnerd · 25/08/2019 19:46

Sorry to hear about your dad Love. I have no direct experience of dementia but I know it can be a difficult time to cope with for everyone involved.

Welcome ibuilt.

Spendier day than expected. We had a day out and knew we'd have to pay to park and perhaps ice creams but it was so hot we had to buy extra cold drinks for us all too. We had a lovely day though.

LivingInLaputa · 25/08/2019 21:12

So sorry love

I have no news here, other than the fact my referral has been put through as mega urgent, it included something about “breach dates” does anyone know what that means? It even went to the service manager. Things got incredibly bad for that to happen. But it’s done. They listened. Yay

So sorry to hear about your dad Love Flowers

Laputa good news that they are dealing with the referral at pace

Nsd yesterday but awful day with ds. Urgh parenting sucks sometimes

Cold is now full blown. May need to go out today for more tissues and more cold pills

Trying to read something debt-free/financially inspirational each day to maintain focus

maddenlightfoot · 26/08/2019 08:40

Hope you get some time to take care of yourself today wolf Thanks. What kind of frugal/debt stuff are you reading? Feel like that would be good for me too. I've actually been so good this week but did splurge last night on wine and ready meal (I only popped in for milk 🙈).

It was kind of a 'last hurrah' for the holidays now though as I'm going to start following Fast800 from Sunday (1st) but am going to be a more mindful eater this week so I think last night I just thought 'sod-it'!

Laputa it sounds like they made a right cock-up of your referral originally - really hope it gets sorted soon.

I have zero plans for today. It's just me and littlests so housework whilst they play and then plenty of lying on the sofa watching movies! We've had a very busy few days and I need to slow down.

Littlechocola · 26/08/2019 08:49

@LivingInLaputa it means it has gone past the 18 week window for referrals. Hopefully you get some news soon.

LivingInLaputa · 26/08/2019 08:59

Aah ok thanks little 💐 yes definitely past that, I was first seen six months ago and discharged saying they couldn’t help, when they should have referred me immediately to a particular psych. Left with zero MH care. And they now seem to hint that my CPN may have to be the same nurse who made that mistake 😖 I’ll cross that bridge if I come to it though, either way the main appt seems imminent and that’s all I want right now.

I was really well treated yesterday, in short I ended up in the urgent treatment centre, I was treated amazingly and they found the letter on my notes which had been sent earlier in the week as urgent. And now they’ll add another letter from the hospital to add even more weight to it. Can’t believe it came to this but hey ho.

Also been referred to safeguarding as that’s standard. Not worried but wish I knew what to expect, would they ring, visit, I have no clue.

Sorry about the hard day wolf it’s draining. Look after yourself xx

Laputa in my experiences phone call then visit.
Bulb have finally decided that my payments need to drop so I’ve changed my direct debit. I am sure they will go up once the weather cools as I get cold working at home but I’m happy to bank the saving in the interim and I have a healthy lump of credit on my account as a cushion. This is literally the least I have paid for gas and electric since I left home 18 years ago!

lifelongfrugaleer · 26/08/2019 10:41

Gws wolf, rest up and hope DS is better today.
Lap pleased you were looked after well. Sorry it's got to crisis for things to be moving on. Seems the way of MH care these days. I only have limited experience though.
Flowers for you both.

Labelled school uniform today. Need shoes and trainers but that is wednesday job.
Can't remember first day arrangements though.

ememem84 · 26/08/2019 10:56

At swimming pool with ds dh and mil. They’ve been swimming. I’ve walked round the rubbing track with dd in her pram. It is not a flat track. I am sweating!!! 5km walked though.

Came into the centre to sit in the cafe and grab a coffee while they finish swimming/get changed. Cafe closed on bank holidays. So no coffee (and obligatory cake) for me. Will grab one at home so have inadvertently saved myself a couple of quid.

Girliefriendlikescake · 26/08/2019 11:07

Hope you're okay wolf I find dd always plays me up more if I'm not 100%, kids can be selfish sods at times.

Glad they're listening now lap but unbelievable it's taken so long 😡

Tired today, puppy had me up at 5am and 6am 😴 so annoying! He's cute but ugh!

He is 11 weeks old today and we can start putting him down outside so going to a local NT place for a picnic.

ememem84 · 26/08/2019 11:37

*running track

maddenlightfoot · 26/08/2019 13:46

Hope everyone is enjoying the sunny weather! We're achieving our chilled out day with occasional jaunts outside to appreciate the sun.

I popped to the shops as I needed to measure dts feet for upcoming shoe renewal. Spent a little on a couple of items I see as 'speculating to accumulate' 😂. £5 on a hair-dye as I am going to cancel my £40 cut and highlights this month and £1 on birdseed as we're planning a trip to local wetlands and always spend £££ on bagged bird food. Works out at about a £50 saving.

Littlechocola · 26/08/2019 15:30

@LivingInLaputa that’s awful, hopefully you will get seen ASAP. Hope today is better for you Flowers

Another day sleeping off a night shift so NSD but no life! I’m off for a few days now so I’m sure Ds and I will make up for it!

CamdenTownie · 26/08/2019 15:54

Hey everyone 👋

Love - so sad to hear about your Dad, I've come to see my Grandma who is in a nursing home, she has dementia and it's really difficult as we only see her one a year because we live 300 miles away. I want to see her but I'm dreading it as my dad has told me she's very bad now, not sure how my daughters will handle it either!

Em - I have no idea how anyone manages without a car unless they live in a big city, just the convenience of door to door transport when you have small kids is a god send!

I've missed loads on this thread as work was really hectic on Friday, plus I had to get the car MOT - but it passed for £40 which was a massive relief as last year it cost over £600! Plus £30 road tax which wasn't due until the 1st but I was worried I'd forget it so paid it yesterday.

I had a leg wax on Saturday morning then went into our local Office rather than the one I work from in London to try and get everything sorted as I'm on Annual leave this week 🥳 yesterday was spent packing and ironing plus doing all the housework that I hadn't done as I was working Saturday!

We left at 5am this morning and arrived in Wales at around 10am, dh was great and drove the whole way with just a pit stop!

Expensive day though, I originally budgeted £500 for the holiday spends but we were down to £360 in the account, I do have an extra £120 In my Monzo account but I'm trying not to dip into that.

Today's spends so far:

£14 McDonald's breakfasts
£4 costa (dd1 very fussy)
£13.50 Krispy Kreme - holiday tradition we always buy a big mixed box at the services
£9 Cornish pasties x 2 and drinks (me and dd1)
£6 chip shop (dh &dd2)
£15.50 wetsuit (dd2 and fridge magnet)
£15.70 bracelets in a souvenir shop (both dd's)
£22 Tesco - fresh food
£10.40 ice creams

So over £100😬 plus gave dd's a £20 note each for holiday spends.

We will visit Bwlch Nant y Arian (I know that's spelt wrong!!) to watch the red kites and probably go on a dolphin spotting boat trip which will be £40! Only other spends will be fish & chips one night plus ice creams.

Dh is having a kip, the girls have gone to the arcade with a pound each and I'm catching up on Mumsnet!

Hope everyone is enjoying the Bank Holiday!

SnugglySnerd · 26/08/2019 16:43

I also need to label school uniform life. I want to wash and iron the tops first so they are not all creased from the packaging.

Just £4 today on parking.

Bornlazy · 26/08/2019 16:45

Finished decorating ds2’s bedroom and it’s lovely. All new furniture, new carpet and paint. All in came to £690 but I’m expecting £150 back from John Lewis for broken bed they took away. It was long overdue.

Love sorry to hear about your dad. I’m sure you will be able to judge if there comes a point when your dc shouldn’t visit

Lap I hope you get some support soon and it’s awful that it has to reach crisis point before action is taken Flowers

Wolf you’re reading the debt free stuff and I’m reading the Christmas bargains thread - there’s something wrong here 😜

Camden holiday looks great. I always spend a fortune on the first day think it’s the excitement. Usually manage to reign it in thereafter.

Welcome ibuilt

Wolfcub · 26/08/2019 18:31

Born I’m definitely also on the Christmas thread as I have Christmas, ds and dneices birthdays pre Christmas and I intend to be very strict on spending (I’m normally terribly over generous).

Been planning the few days away. I’ve alrea paid for dinners and breakfast so I’m now planning activities and lunches and costing those. I imagine I will also need a few trips to the bar to survive 48 hours with ds in a confined space - so far I think some good activities, lunches, parking etc will be about £100.
