😩 one of my present splurges was an echo dot for my mum. Decided to go for a 2nd gen refurbished as it was only £24.99. Now the 3rd gen refurbed is the same price and new only £10 more.

My order hasn't been delivered but has been dispatched. Is there much difference 2nd/3rd? Will I regret not sending it back?

The danger of early present buying 😩😩😩!!!

WreckTangled · 19/09/2019 17:29

Order the third gen one and send the other one back. You'll regret it otherwise. It's not that much hassle amazon returns are easy Smile

CamdenTownie · 19/09/2019 18:46

I agree def send the other one back
And go for the 3rd gen! I was annoyed because I paid full price for one for dd1 birthday a month or so ago, I'd have been so frustrated if it'd gone down before I'd even received it!

Dorsetcamping · 19/09/2019 18:55

Does anyone know if I can get a refund on a pay as you go top up?

I stupidly bought a £10 top in a Tesco store and then realised it was for the wrong network!

MissingMo · 19/09/2019 19:38

@Dorsetcamping in the shop I worked at we wouldn't be able to refund the top up as we were just middlemen/distribution but you could try contacting the network directly for a refund. To be fair I don't know Tescos policy, it may be different.

Dorsetcamping · 19/09/2019 19:42

Thanks @MissingMo guess it's worth a try

Wolfcub · 19/09/2019 19:45

Unexpected nsd apart from ds’s activity fee

WreckTangled · 19/09/2019 20:12

Ds is being a horrible little so and so. He got the chance to try out for the chelsea u7 football academy tonight but just spent the whole time clinging to dh who was so embarrassed now he's home he's spent the whole time shouting 'daddy! Daddy!' Over and over when I've tried to put him to bed. I'm so pissed off with him.

ememem84 · 19/09/2019 20:13

Nsd.

Ffs. Tomorrow Dh has an a cupuncture apt at 830am.

We have one car.

Acupuncture is on the other side of town so would involve two busses.

I need the car for 1030. So I can take ds swimming.

So. Tomorrow morning we’ll be bundling both kids in the car for 730 to beat the traffic to get dh to his appointment. Then driving back home through the rush hour traffic. Then probably be home for an hour then out again (dparents are coming to sit with dd). Then I need to take dd to get weighed so can’t use DMs car as they’ll need it for the afternoon with ds.

Ffs.

lifelongfrugaleer · 19/09/2019 21:23

Can you refuse the delivery of the 2 gen? Not sure of the policy there otherwise there is usually return postage.

That's annoying em. Hate one car logistics sometimes.

Oh no wreck. Was he nervous? They know how to push our buttons.

Rats urgh.

WreckTangled · 19/09/2019 21:34

Yep. Too shy to join in

Girliefriendlikescake · 19/09/2019 22:02

Evening all.

Rats are gross, I was sat chatting to a friend in her garden once and this massive rat wondered in bold as brass in broad daylight 😱 her useless cat just watched it 🙄🤣

I'm tired and grumpy today, think am probably due on!

Had to do a teaching session in front of 30 health professionals at work today, was so nervous I thought I was going to be sick! Got through it though and think I did okay, just about anyway!!

Wreck your ds's loss, not surprised you're cross with him.

Thanks for the ski trip advice, apparently the letter comes out tomorrow.... £300 for a two night PGL trip?? They're taking the piss right?!!

Dd is going on a march for climate change tomorrow, the school have okayed the kids to do it if they want to. Not sure what I think really as imagine a lot of the kids going don't really care about climate change as much as skiving off school for a couple of hours!!

Nsd.

Happierwithouthim · 20/09/2019 06:58

I didn't like house I went to view,
dd wanted takeaway but they weren't open so more stuff was used from freezer win win
Bought myself a small cone €1.50 in the afternoon

MeadowHay · 20/09/2019 10:11

Wreck Sorry about DS, I can understand why you feel as you.

Girlie Well done on the teaching!

My DPs often get rats in their garden because they put out leftovers for the birds. They have loads of bird visitors that have been coming for years and years now, whole families of wood pigeons, magpies, lots of smaller birdies too but I don't know anything about bird breeds. Never had any of them in the house though. Seen a fair few in broad daylight in the summer months in past years, I think thirst drives them out sometimes when it's been hot and dry for ages because my DPs keep water out in old pans and stuff for the birds too in the summer months.

Girlie They might not care about it and go for the day off but while they are there, that might change their perspective and give them a really useful life experience that might spark their interest in activism, iyswim. There's nothing like a demo as a child to do that I think. I remember my first demo clearly and it had a big impact on me, I was about 12 I think, DPs went and took all of us with them.

DD in full-on tantrum mode this morning. She got up at 7 and I think I had counted 5 by 8.15...sigh. She is starting to understand a lot of what I'm saying which is really cool but also means nappy change tantrums start when I say "I'm going to change your nappy now" before I've even picked her up etc...but everyone/my reading tells me to tell them what you are going to do etc. Can't take her to messy play because therapist is coming at the exact time it starts. Have vague plan to take her to this big play centre that I won't name in case it's even more outing than all the other things I post Grin and meet up with a couple of friends there, but not sure if we will make it in time once I've given her lunch and also feel super anxious about it as she keeps tantrumming all the time, she will be the only non-walker and we've not been to this place before and it's ££ and will take me like an hour to get to via bus and walking so it will be horrible if she acts up. Also have not got the bus with her alone since the spring so anxious about that too. I find it really stressful and hard getting the buggy off the bus and it's v rare that anyone offers to help me even when I'm clearly struggling.

Been the shops already this morning and spent about £19 on groceries. Tbh most of it was snacks for DD!

Ls2204 · 20/09/2019 10:22

Does anybody use Monzo?
I've found it amazing for tracking my spends, it categorises everything and it's a real eye opener to see where all my money goes!

This isn't a plug by the way! It's just really helped with me managing my money. You can also round up the pennies to the nearest pound that are auto saved (so good as nobody really uses cash anymore!), or set limits on eating out or clothes etc etc

Another pretty cool app I use is called Chip which uses an algorithm to calculate your spends and puts money away every week or whenever it thinks you can afford it so it'd just be like going to the shop and buying junk. It always promises you won't go overdrawn due to one of their money movements and will give you £25 if they do.

Both amazing apps protected by the FCS and between them I've saved almost £1000 in 5 months (would be more but my salary is pretty low) and it's essentially my birthday/Christmas/car insurance fund so I don't have to worry about the big costs.

If anybody is interested I have referral codes where we can both get a little bit of cash back each, but again, this isn't a plug but a way I've managed to put money aside and really watch my spending.

mogloveseggs · 20/09/2019 11:09

@CamdenTownie rats are a pain in the arse. Came face to face with one the size of a guinea pig at one job!
@CurlsandCurves out guiding PGL weekends only cost £85 so I'd be asking why it's that much. I suspect its coach travel?
@ememem84 did you make the appointments? That sounds incredibly stressful for a morning I'd have made dh walk but I'm a shit wife
Shopping list is £50 including electric for the week.
Also need passport pics ASAP.
Yesterday was a high spending day. Dd was supposed to be going to her first ever read that in teen words party. Shopping had to be done as she had nothing again teen speak to wear. So £23 on 2 dresses as she couldn't decide. Then the party got cancelled. She was gutted bless her. So we went out for dessert for tea. £39 for 3 people! It was good though.

ememem84 · 20/09/2019 12:32

After I posted last night I told dh that it would be incredibly stressful. And asked him to find his own way there.

He got a taxi.

Dm arrived here at 10. Ds and I went swimming.

Just got back. Dm has taken ds for the afternoon.

Dd is napping in her chair. She’s just finished a bottle.

I’m eating s sandwich. And watching ER.

mogloveseggs · 20/09/2019 13:04

em I love er. Favourite programme ever.
Sounds like a much more chilled day

CamdenTownie · 20/09/2019 14:24

Mog - the waffle looks amazing! I'm
So jel!! I love the banoffee waffle from
Creams 😋

I've spent £1 today on some chocolate, no
Plans to spend any more, I have £95 in the food account and need to last until next Thursday as Friday is payday! Feels like it's been forever, but in order to save I've had to cut right back.

We are slowly getting bits done on the extension, the last of the bricks are underway and the roof should be finished today or Monday - it's such a relief, but we are spending money so quickly, I think the roof was £7000 and the bricks £5000, still need so much done, windows and front door etc plus internal work, pluming and electrical, plastering, knock through and floors laid etc. Once the money runs out it's going to be a bit by bit work in progress!

Wolfcub · 20/09/2019 15:51

Spendy day

£190 to friend for concert and theatre tickets for next year
£20 Christmas party deposit
£16.50 ds haircut
£7 Pilates
£1 posting h’s letters to him
£10 for ds’s trip this weekend

Eeek

CamdenTownie · 20/09/2019 16:58

Chaos on the central line again! Left early but probably won't get in any earlier than usual! Also got on the tube only for them to change the destination one it got going Angry

At least it's Friday! Hope everyone has a lovely weekend in the sun ☀️

LivingInLaputa · 20/09/2019 17:16

Hi. Sorry have been AWOL. Things pretty rubbish still tbh for many reasons. Had that psych appt yesterday though, finally! She’s diagnosed me with inattentive ADHD 😱😱😱 and is giving me meds (methylphenidate) in the next few weeks once I’ve had ECG etc. Feeling relieved but completely overwhelmed. As usual, lol.

In other news DD1 got her period again on September 2nd... and it’s not stopped yet! I’ve heard they can be crazy in the first year or so but this is ridiculous. She’s getting tired and headachy so I’ve put her on iron (and vitamin D) for a bit and I’m hoping the GP will agree to blood tests but I’m not sure what else to do. 😰

CamdenTownie · 20/09/2019 17:34

Lap - dd1 was the same at first, I gave her the well teen vita from Boots, my friend who is a women's health nurse suggested it, things have settled down now (it's been 2 years) and she just gets on with it but it was so hard for her in the beginning.

Wolfcub · 20/09/2019 22:14

Need to be up at 3am to get ds on his bus for a national comp Confused. Currently on hamster death watch, the bloody thing appears to have dug its own cage-grave

Wolfcub · 21/09/2019 04:17

Urgh. Ds is all packed off for the weekend. The hamster definitely looks dead but I’m not investigating further until it’s a more reasonable hour.
