Aw thanks guys 😘

Devon is ace Curvy. My dad was from there and he always argued that it was better than Cornwall. Whereabouts are you staying?

I was measuring DD’s head tonight for a bike helmet and she said ‘mummy's making a head!’ She thinks I have skillz, evidently 😂

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 10/06/2019 23:07

Thanks Girlie.
Sea we are staying at Dawlish Warren.
Your dd sounds adorable 😍

northender · 10/06/2019 23:13

Lovely to see you Seacow. Sorry you're having a hard time with ds. I can understand you putting everything into a party for dd.
unescorted I'm totally with your cakecocaine comment! I'm loving doing all the baking for cricket teas as I get great appreciation, but I only have a taste here & there. I rarely do cakes at home as only ds can really afford to eat it Grin.
Tobago trip is booked, woohoo!

curvy Dawlish is lovely & on the main trainline so easy to get to Exeter & other places by train. Can't remember how old your dc are, but Teignmouth pier is a firm favourite with us.

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 10/06/2019 23:30

Thanks north, ds is 14 and dd is 9. Luckily they both like beaches, woods and nature, so that will keep them out of the arcades for a bit!
I guess I just want it to be as stress free as possible, with their dad and I separated, I want them to look back, later on, and hopefully they will remember that there was a bit of a good time, in all the rubbish bits.

Wolfcubisthefemalenominal · 11/06/2019 04:37

Morning all. I am propping open my eyes with matchsticks

I also love millionaire shortbread, make some Unescorted and I will come and help you eat it

Sea it’s so good to see you, sorry you are having a difficult time Flowers

Curvy your trip sounds fab

lifelongfrugaleer · 11/06/2019 06:37

Morning, tired here today. Yeah on Tobago being booked.
I have no experience of Devon, sorry.
That father's Day present sounds great.
Nsd planned today. I also have to bake this week for a fundraiser at work and about fair. Pray for nice weather (dry will do) on Saturday

maddenlightfoot · 11/06/2019 06:52

Is it winter? I've woken up freezing cold with a storm blowing outside and dreaming of Christmas Confused

Curvy I have fond memories of staying in Dawlish Warren with my mum and her friends and their children as a teen. I know we went on the Starcross Ferry as we have photos of us all being stars 🤗 and cross 😡!! I've just googled and it seems to go to Exmouth which is lovely in itself.

ememem84 · 11/06/2019 07:06

We love Devon too. Many a happy summer was spent with my grandparents there.

Ds has a cold.

I appear to have a head full of snot. Wahooo.

Happierwithouthim · 11/06/2019 08:42

curvy I've the exact same agenda here with my two.

They asked when they'd go camping again, and I found a single parents glamping holiday, so all the joy of camping without the stress on me. Then ds asked when are we ever going to go to Tayto Park, it wasn't on my agenda but I did want a night in a hotel with a swimming pool for luxury in that week's holidays also. Tickets for Tayto Park are €90 but I got hotel with breakfast including tayto park ticket for €144 for us. So for €539 we've 4 nights away but that'll be sandwiched between nights at grandparents also. It includes one dinner and one breakfast but we've to eat every week so I figure grocery shopping money can cover the rest!

They don't know any of this other than we'll go somewhere and we'll see. Your dc will remember the little things, hot chocs after a walk in the rain, picnics on sitting room stuff like that is what my dd recalls anyhow.

SnugglySnerd · 11/06/2019 09:28

Yes I was cold in bad last night too, while I listened to the wind and rain. It's like November!
Love Devon. Lovely beaches and loads to do.

ememem84 · 11/06/2019 13:09

Am about to go and spend money on a chocolate brownie.

Made porridge for breakfast. Had home made salad for lunch.

Ds’ nursery has been slated on Facebook. For neglecting kids. Extortion. All sortable of nonsense.

I commented why do I get sucked into these things and have been told im a moron who clearly doesn’t love her child if I send him there....

Wolfcubisthefemalenominal · 11/06/2019 16:07

Happier where did you find the single parent glamour thing? That sounds just the job as I can’t put the sodding tent up on my own and get similar requests from ds

Happierwithouthim · 11/06/2019 16:40

wolf I'm in Ireland but I just googled single parents holidays and found a few and went from there.

I have put up tent alone at home in front lawn the day we got it, but I don't know if I'd like the pressure if we were to stay in it!

Plan next time using it to go with friends so there'll be help with tent if necessary.

Happierwithouthim · 11/06/2019 16:41

Spends today €9.24 on a travel safely keyring in the shape of Oz for my sis who's moving there, also €3.85 twice to dpd parcel wizard, one for kylie sheets for ds and the other for said keyring.

ChristmasSeacow · 11/06/2019 18:49

One of my friends does single parent holidays - sometimes in France but she’s done a glamping one off grid somewhere in the south west and said it was fab. No WiFi so the kids spoke to each other and even to their parents Grin. Sounds great Happier and I agree, it’s the little details they remember, not necessarily the Big Bang stuff. So it doesn’t really matter where you are (UK /abroad /whatever). It’s the ice creams and the bickering that they’ll remember Wink.

Dawlish is lovely Curvy, I’m sure you’ll have a brilliant time. We often go down to Paignton in good weather when in Devon. Nice beach and not too busy. There’s also an amusement park there right by the beach, though I’ve never been. Possibly good for your older ones. Goodrington also has a water park which looks quite fun, again it’s right by the beach. Teignmouth pier (horrible arcade - but then I hate arcades!) has a cool thing at the far end called a ‘black hole’ - it’s a fascinating parabolic surface that you roll coins down (save coppers for it - 2ps are best!) and they sort of roll down in a fascinating circle. DS loves it Grin. My granny lived there until she died last year so we went often, probably won’t go much now, sadly.

There’s also a steam train that goes from Paignton to Kingswear, with a short ferry ride across the harbour to Dartmouth, and that’s really nice - And Dartmouth is a pretty little town to spend a few hours in.

I fancy Devon now but it’s Wales for us this year! We went away for 2 nights over the bank holiday (air bnb in Suffolk) and while we were away we joined English Heritage, because we went to one property that weekend and there’s also loads of EH properties near where we are staying in Wales so it was going to be worth it. We also joined the RSPB because DH said it was a ‘good thing to do’. So that was veeeery expensive but we’re hoping to get some mileage out of them both over the summer!

ChristmasSeacow · 11/06/2019 18:56

North when we went to Tobago we went snorkelling somewhere off the north coast, just around an island called Little Tobago that’s not far from the coast. It was amazing - crystal clear waters! We stayed in a hotel called the Blue Waters Inn and they organised it. We also went to a beach on the west coast of Trinidad at night and watched a turtle lay eggs - that was early June I think so maybe you’ll be too early for similar on Tobago. That was A. Mazing though. Also visited some lovely fishing villages, including a place on the north coast called Castara Bay. We did a lot of bird watching while we were there, which was the main reason we went, but I appreciate that’s a bit niche Wink. Might be a nice thing for a day though if you can sign up for a guided walk? You’ll have an amazing time...

lifelongfrugaleer · 11/06/2019 19:03

£2 squeezy app, £15 Sainsbury's, £10 htty dragon 3 dvd

Cagliostro · 11/06/2019 19:08

Cagletini sat in a puddle at the park today and DH had forgotten her nappy bag too Hmm so unexpected spends in Boots. However they had a load of clothes on sale so got a few of their lovely t-shirt dresses for £3 each :o she was super excited about the ones with dinosaurs and elephants.

It’s sort of frugal to stock up in the next size I guess...

Cagliostro · 11/06/2019 19:09

Also had to buy cabbage as my boob hurts due to feeding her less. So now I’m sitting around smelling like a greengrocer. Awesome.

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 11/06/2019 21:47

Wolf, I don't know how you function at times, with such early mornings! You must be superhuman 💪

Happier, I will remember the single parent bit, when I've saved enough to go on holiday. Does your glamping have electric hook up?
I'm sure your DCs will love the surprise!

Thank you all for the wonderful things to do in Devon, I will be making a list!

Sea, sounds like some wonderful memories were made.

Cag, hope the cabbage helps!

Girliefriendlikescake · 11/06/2019 22:06

I've done a few of the single with kids holidays, they were good, not camping though! We stayed in wood cabins, one was in the new forest which was a lovely holiday. I haven't in the last few years as I have another single parent friend to go on holiday with. I was thinking I could take dd to a small festival at some point now she is older she would probably enjoy it and help me put up a tent!!

Oh no cag that sounds sore!

Curvy my dd is going to dawlish for the day next week on a school trip!! I'm pretty sure you can do crabbing down there which is the only thing my dd ever wants to do in Devon 🦀

I've struggled today as have still got terrible tooth ache 😖 going back to the dentist tomorrow as can't cope with it being so sore.

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 11/06/2019 22:54

Girlie, your dd is a lucky girl! Crabbing is always a favourite! Hope you get your tooth sorted tomorrow x

northender · 11/06/2019 23:02

seacow Castara is where we are staying. It looks beautiful.
Agree with what has been said about holidays. We love our family holidays, which have mostly been camping, static caravan or cottage if we're feeling flush! Evenings are almost exclusively spent playing cards/Yahtzee/uno etc. We've visited lots of places in this country and latterly Brittany & N Spain. The dc have loved it. Curvy you'll have a great time. Happier love the sound of what you're doing too.
cag hope the cabbage leaves work.
