unescorted haha!!

autumn I love an Asian supermarket. A lot of things can be bought massively cheaper there. But only if you use them (noodles for example).

sneaky I love jack monroes books and insta feed. She’s done some amazing recipes from stuff in tins.

SneakyGremlins · 31/12/2018 16:43

I do! And am currently trawling through COAB. Some delicious looking things on there.

I know not everyone stockpiles but when it's all over the internet and the news you get a bit Shock

Unescorted · 31/12/2018 16:48

I take one of my mates from work to explain what is what. And I have started asking questions in the Chinese and Thai supermarkets just out the back of my office. They think I am slightly eccentric..... But it is better than my neighbours complaining about my cooking smells.

SneakyGremlins · 31/12/2018 16:48

Oooooh a Thai supermarket?

lifelongfrugaleer · 31/12/2018 16:49

True enough sneaky.
Coab you could freeze left overs or use them for next days lunch.
If you are able to get bits of extra food a freezer is a good send. IE if a 4 pack is reduced eat one, divide up the rest and freeze.
take away or ice cream tubs are Ideal for freezing in. Also reduced bread, freeze and defrost as you need it. Ditto blocks of cheese, grate/ chop up and freeze
Do you know this sort of stuff? Let me know if you do.

SneakyGremlins · 31/12/2018 16:51

I've noted it down - I know the discount center sells takeaway tubs.

Already freeze cheap bread but I had no idea you can freeze cheese Shock

lifelongfrugaleer · 31/12/2018 16:51

Two breeds of sheep. Ah but can you identify them, that makes you a real diverse person...... Bet one is Herdwick..

Unescorted · 31/12/2018 16:51

Sneaky we will be fine, but I know what you mean when you are not in a position to make that choice it can seem frightening. If worst comes to worst we will adopt you and you can apply for an EU passport!

Wolfcub · 31/12/2018 16:51

Sneaky you should also look at Weezl’s weblog. I contributed a recipe or two when I was a regular on MSE and some of the recipes on here helped get us through our worst Financial Times (back in the days when I thought our only option was to declare bankruptcy). weezl.wordpress.com

Unescorted · 31/12/2018 16:54

Derbyshire Blackfaces and Gritstones. Hobby farmers round here keep herdys.

Wolfcub · 31/12/2018 16:56

Well I’ve never heard of a gritstone before Unescorted so I’ve learned something (I wish my sodding phone would stop trying to call you UNESCO). My df helps his mate with his sheep and he has had some unusual breeds but not those ones

Ggreengrass1 · 31/12/2018 16:58

We're having jack Monroe's veggie burgers ( made with kidney beans ) for tea, they are yum.
girlie how did it go?

SneakyGremlins · 31/12/2018 17:02

I can identify them thankyou very much. "Fluffy" and "Fluffy with curls".

SneakyGremlins · 31/12/2018 17:03

Thankyou Wolfcub Smile

AdoraBell · 31/12/2018 17:04

Another NSD, DH shelled out for coffees.

Unescorted · 31/12/2018 17:05

No one in their right mind would have them...small and scrawny. They are sly and smart.... The collie of the sheep world.

lifelongfrugaleer · 31/12/2018 17:05

Kudos unescorted

Sneaky, the link is to a freezer guide if you want it from BBC good food. There will be others but they are a decent website

SneakyGremlins · 31/12/2018 17:05

Have bookmarked it life Smile

Unescorted · 31/12/2018 17:11

sneaky do you know anyone who gets those menu boxes? All the food comes in very fine plastic takeaway boxes..... All you need is a week's worth and the other person gets to be less guilty about the amount of plastic they use because they are too busy on Instagram to use a knife.

Bornlazy · 31/12/2018 17:44

I hope fluffy is ok - has she been seen since she ate the dodgy turkey sandwich??

What I might do is put a few pounds a week past and decide nearer the time whether to buy extra or not. As I said upthread I doubt I'd be able to keep anything for months unless it was under lock and key. if I think I don't need to do it then I'll have some cash to use to immigrate however I see fit Grin

Rightwayup · 31/12/2018 18:37

AutumnLeaves12 · 31/12/2018 19:02

I had another NeSD today. In spite of temptation.

It wasn't a NSD because I left the house and bought food, but I'm going to call that a win too.

Jam You looked lovely last night, very glam. I couldn’t walk in those shoes.

Quite You will never forget the feeling of needle on bone. Never. You got a free tetanus though.

Sneaky You can freeze most things apart from eggs. I freeze leftover tomatoes & cook them in sauces.

£17 sains. £1.50 will come back from green jinn for the olive oil, £8 on a present. Wearing the loungewear dh got me from the white company, so comfy. I could never see why people pay so much for there clothes before but I get it now.

The cat pissed on the duvet earlier, he is creeping round trying to get in my good books.

I’d also like to go out more Unescorted, but to restaurants. We had 2 lovely meals out over Christmas.

QuiteisbringingFrugalback · 31/12/2018 19:07

Just to be clear Im not stock piling -lots of my 3 month goods is chicken pellets /rabbit food and we aint eating that !
I do have 3 axes 😄 though as we DH chops logs for the fire .
Leftovers tonight
We have a reduced Co op trifle £1.25 , sticky toffee pudding and custard or a white chocolate and raspberry cream roulade which I made today.
Co op sausage rolls from the bakery 5 for £1.50 and we have walnut bread, cheese, leftover ham, pickles, salad etc for tomorrow evening.
I suspect hungover DC will mop it all up when they get back tomorrow .
Quiet night tonight -cant be arsed and wish my neighbours would F off with their bloody fireworks.

DH let all my chickens/bantams out together as it was really nice today and Ive spent ages trying to return them to the correct run .
Daft things even laid in the "wrong " nest boxes .
So big eggs next to teeny eggs Grin
