Tax on maternity pay

Do we get taxed on maternity if so how much?
I would only make £150 per week can’t imagine paying tax & NI on that

If you are on a normal 1185L tax code you won't be taxed if you get under £225 per week. (For the life of me I cannot remember the actual figure, but it around then)
Maternity is taxable though.

Sorry, that is if you are on a w1m1 code. It depends on how much tax you have paid throughout the year too. It will be minimal though.

I’m on 21k a year but I will be starting mat leave at the end of the financial year so hopefully I might get away with it x

You can call hmrc and ask for rebates sporadically rather than at the end of your pay (ie; I was due to get one on tax paid once I stopped earning as... well I won't be earning thus my calculation for the year would be out but instead I'm getting bits here and there)

First six weeks of SMP are at 90% salary so there will be Income Tax and NI on that. Then when the pay drops you will probably go under threshold. It will depend if you are paid weekly or monthly, your tax code, your year to date figures etc. If paid monthly then keep in mind that SMP is calculated weekly so some months will be 4 weeks of SMP and other months will be 5 weeks.

Yes maternity pay (including statutory) is taxable but if you under the earnings threshold, you’ll be exempt.
