I’m at the hairdresser getting my roots done. I’ve been here since 10am but the colour was too light so I’m back in the chair while they tone it down. It’s supposed to be close to my natural browny red colour but a bit warmer - this was almost orange Shock

Back to the magazines then! Ocado is coming later and I’ve few errands to run when the supermarkets get quieter - a click and collect from Waitrose and returns to M&S and Sainsbury’s. They are all next to each other so should be quick. And I need to make a lasagne for my mum’s visit tomorrow.

Have a good day all.

SnugglySnerd · 26/05/2018 12:17

Good start, Em!

Enjoy your mat leave Meadow, enjoy a rest before little one arrives.

Thanks for the tip Unescorted.

Spendy today, top up shop needed.

Unescorted · 26/05/2018 12:53

I am getting a bit cheesed off with the lack of gas. Especially as we have no sign of people trying to fix their mistake. I get the feeling that it will be deep into next week before we are reconnected.

CremeEggThief · 26/05/2018 12:55

I had to chuckle at your post, Em. How long is the visit?

Great news about the vote in Ireland, Tayto and Mammy.

My Sainsburys order came about an hour ago. £45.40. I'll need to go to Iceland, as I prefer their frozen stirfry vegetables to Sainsburys. Going out for a pub meal this evening and hoping to watch the balloons. They haven't been up yet, as the weather was too bad yesterday and too cloudy this morning.

Laska5772 · 26/05/2018 13:10

Respect Em Grin
We have house full of family and kids. They have gone out for the day.. I was going to garden but am feeling ill.. possibly a migraine coming on. Hmm

lifelongfrugaleer · 26/05/2018 13:50

I was wondering if it's worth a look up crème but it's a bit windy here.

Wolfcub · 26/05/2018 13:54

Fell into Sainsbury’s as I discovered ds has used all my shampoo (he has form for just pouring it down the drain) and all his. Picked up a bottle of wine, tonic, nice summer linen jumper and some bits for lunch and dinner until he’s home. Also got him a mini football and football pump as we’ve had dramas over his flat football and my lack of knowledge of the pumps whereabouts in the last week and i saw an easy solution and took it! Also £30 cashvack to it for dinner tonight £72 all in all. Bad wolf!

We are back from town, mostly unsuccessful as didn't get dd a bikini, bras or any shorts as couldn't find anything she liked or felt comfortable ran out of time to get the make up I wanted and to take back some clothes to m&s.

On the plus side did get a present for a friend of dds next week (she has finally been invited to a party!) £9.

Dds hair cut was £19 (first time it's been cut in 9 months! )

Subway for lunch £9 and parking was £3.20.

Need to pack this afternoon as holiday tomorrow! !

LonelyOversharer · 26/05/2018 14:24

We went out, I swapped dp's birthday b&q voucher for cash so he could buy us a new doorbell (2 chimers, one for house, one for shed). We had a doorbell, but it's never been connected to a chimer (the people who I bought the house from took it, but not the doorbell Confused), which has been fun over the years.

So, spent £21 of the coupon on mostly compost. I frugally got a 125l bale for £3, as the top was torn open. £1 roll of gaffer tape sorted that, and I'm still £3 up. Then £38 in Morrissons on a top up, I love that shop, but it is so expensive now. Small piece of pork bought for roasting tomorrow.

£6 in aldi on things we forgot in Morrisons, and £5.20 on costas, but dp bought those.

Spendy, but all things that we needed. My face is still very sore. But no toothache. I called the dentist the second they opened, not enough of an emergency today, so will go on tuesday. Hope the antibiotics have sorted it by then.

WreckTangled · 26/05/2018 14:37

My dc aren't even dressed yet Grin

£27 Riding. We’ve had an incredibly sleepless night. I’m exhausted.

Dh is being less than helpful. I told him in the week that if he needed me to cancel my riding lesson today let me know before 6pm yesterday.

This morning he announces that we’re going for lunch at 1230 with mil. I ride at 12. So I suggested (gently) that we go after. I’ll be done by 130. Or they can go without me. Either way.

Dh says they’ll go after. They meet me at stables and I borrow DMs car so Dh can do whatever with mil. She turned up and is in heels. Complained because it smells. She didn’t know it would be dirty. Asked my instructor for a towel to sit on on the bench... instructor rolled her eyes and Did not produce a towel.

after I’d finished and was putting pony away mil walked ds around the yard. Showed him the ponies. I’d told Dh not to go near the stupid small white one. Because she bites. Mil went near the stupid small white one. I told her not to stand so close. Pony tried to bite her when she went to pat her. And then went for her after. I used to hate that pony.

She then complained about being hungry. So we go to grab a sandwich. Fine. She moans because the coffee probably won’t be as good as in nz. The cafe doesn’t do flat whites. She wants a sandwich. “Will they do bread?” id hope so it’s a fucking sandwich that’s the point you moron

All through lunch it was “em ds is crying. Ds looks tired. Ds needs changing. I’m eating as quickly as I can do I can sort him out and get the hell away from her she then compress me to sil “sil would have sorted dnephew straight away” “sil wouldn’t have let him grissle...” I pointed out Dh was also there and that he could deal. “But you’re his mother”

My only consolation today is that ds whipped her with my whip after my lesson. My instructor was super nice with ds and sat him on a pony and told him he could have a proper go when he’s a big boy (smiles!!!) and the pony bit her.

Wolfcub · 26/05/2018 16:04

Em you need to buy that pony a pack of polo mints it clearly has taste

Fluffycloudland77 · 26/05/2018 16:12

In NZ all the stables are spotlessly clean & all the cafes have bread.

ememem84 · 26/05/2018 16:14

wolf I’m taking carrots and apples next week!!!! 🐎🥕🥕🍏🍏

Quite fluffy

I get that stables are maybe not the best place for an 8 month old. However. He had a good laugh at pony. He liked patting her. And he wasn’t afraid.

SunnyLikeThursday · 26/05/2018 16:16

Em I've advanced to reading your posts aloud to ds and dh. You should definitely keep these for publication. They rock.

Lillylollylandy · 26/05/2018 16:27

Goodness Em she really is something else. What does DH do when she's behaving like this?

Agree with Sunny. You should write a book using your posts.

lifelongfrugaleer · 26/05/2018 17:04

Fist pumps em. You know your have all of the frugaleers cheering you on here em, stay strong. YY to a book.

MeadowHay · 26/05/2018 17:06

Cheddarded about the news in Ireland. While we were in Dublin we went to a public meeting thing about the referendum set up by People Before Profit and it was really interesting.

I am already enjoying my mat leave even though it's a Saturday today Grin. Watched a French movie with DH on Netflix last night and I've started watching Cuckoo on Netflix which is amusing enough. Have added lots of things to my list to watch over the next few weeks (and maybe beyond especially if I stick with breastfeeding). Have just made muffins for the first time in my life and dinner will be spaghetti with Quorn meatballs, yum. I enjoy cooking and stuff when I've got time and am not stressed out and exhausted.

Can anyone recommend a good, cheap baking tin for baking brownies and flapjacks? We have successfully made brownies in these round-ish cake tins but it wasn't ideal and obviously some of them were a funny shape Grin. And I want to try and bake flapjacks too as they look easy but don't have a tin.

Girlie How old is DD again? I had a lot of fruitless shopping trips with my DM as a teen Blush. Tbh I still do as an adult just dragging DH around now instead! I always find it hard to find stuff that I like that also fits well, I don't know what it is about my proportions but so much stuff seems to just fit badly on me Confused. I also need to buy a bikini top as want to go in the birthing pool and whilst I know many people go naked I want to have the option at least. I've never worn a bikini in my life yet. Also like your DD I still only tend to get my hair cut about that often Blush. Although this time had it done in March but want it done again before baby is born cos want to get it cut short into a long-ish bob or something (it's a bit past my shoulders atm).

Em I agree with Sunny and Lilly, you have a great way with words with these MIL stories, loads of people would love to read a book like this, me included!

Fluffycloudland77 · 26/05/2018 17:14

Poundland do baking tins, Homebargains do cheap liners for them. As long as you handwash they’ll last.

£2 eggs.

Will need beer and coffee beans tm.

ememem84 · 26/05/2018 17:16

Haha! I’d obvs have to write under a pen name.....!

Maybe I will.

SunnyLikeThursday · 26/05/2018 17:26

Do you read Peter and Jane on Facebook Em? That's a mum who writes fantastic blog posts about her immediate family. She's been comprehensively outed now by having got a book published and having been invited to a literary festival, so it's might be a tight line to walk. In the meantime. Well done on the last couple of days. You're doing a fab job there.

LonelyOversharer · 26/05/2018 17:47

em keep trucking along. You're doing brilliantly. Is day 2 with her done yet?

Have been sorting soil from the front garden to back. Right as I'm filthy and in wellies and shorts, dishy race guy turns up he's looking very fit. Honestly he picks his times! But my raised beds are nearly full of lovely sieved soil. I'm going to plant more peas, as we can freeze these if we get a glut (fat chance).

meadow any tin will do. I use supermarket ones, not more than a couple of quid. Get a roll of baking parchment (lasts forever) and line the base, and they'll last yonks. The grey ones with the non stick coating are ace, as you don't need to get in a faff greasing them. Pyrex works well too, if you have a lasagne dish or something. I want to make brownies now!

Just proving rolls for hot dogs for tea. Going to put the oven on, I'm hungry.

ChristmasSeacow · 26/05/2018 19:13

Just done a tour of local supermarkets doing click and collect and returning stuff. I noticed that Sainsburys own brand basic frozen pizzas, which I think are much better than the comparable product from other supermarkets, are currently on offer at 75p each. Even the pepperoni and sweet chilli chicken ones. Normally £1.30 and even then they are really good value so I thought I’d mention it. I wish I had more freezer space!

Hair was £45 plus £10 tip between the two girls who sorted the colour.

DD seems to be unwell - she’s had a temperature all day and has been very grumpy and tearful. I hope she bounces back tomorrow as it’s been hard going today. It’s pretty hot and humid here too, which isn’t helping. There’s thunder forecast for tonight and tomorrow so I hope the air clears.

I am steeling myself to do DS’s bedtime inhaler. It’s not going down terribly well... 😬
