Will catch up in a bit. Hello newbies
Wonder if it's worth putting the post with the links on again soon?

£84 Aldi bit got some bike gear for dh, £23 Iceland.
Corned beef pie made, gnarly chicken in the oven, stir fry for tea.

Vague meal plan made and a look forward to may/June.

Viewing a new house on Wednesday, wish me look as it ticks all of my boxes. But it will mean super frugal times.

Will read back now

lifelongfrugaleer · 29/04/2018 16:53

I haven't read usedto's thread what's the craic?

lifelongfrugaleer · 29/04/2018 16:55

Ah I see fluffy beat me to it

Laska5772 · 29/04/2018 16:55

Onion Bhajis ..

For years I have used this Chef Jeena's baked onion bhaji recipe. I found it when i was on a diet , really missing curry snacks and wanted a 'healthier' option

Its really really REALLY good, CHEAP, s compared to buying, not at all difficult and doesnt use much oil I have always used gram (chickpea) flour rather than buckwheat though .. enjoy .

I also made Meera Sodha's roast Masala chicken over the weekend ( using chicken quarters rather than a whole one (I left out the almonds in the marinade and aftre chicken was cooked i thickened the cooked juices from the marinade with some tahini instead ) .It was wonderful!

Also Treated myself to her Fresh India book as it has such lovely veggie recipes and I want to increase my repertoire .( I got the hardback, though its £1.99 on kindle and you can read it on your PC id you download the kindle PC app.

Other great books I use a lot are@ are Madhur Jaffrey Curry easy (I see that someone s selling a 2nd hand copy of that for 1p plus postage on Amazon at the mo ) and Curry Easy vegetarian

usedto I’ve just read your other thread. Have you thought about getting a job or moving house?!?! GrinHmmWink

Good to see you’re doing the standing order trick. It really helped me a few years ago.

We’re all in different situations financially here but I’ve found this little corner to be so supportive.

But as a previous poster said were not poor enough because of our priorities.

Mine is saving for a new house and retaining our lifestyle. We’re fairly high earners, but live in Channel Islands which is ridiculously expensive re housing and food etc. Dh and I have expensive hobbies (golf and horse riding and gym memberships). But we want to continue to do this and buy a new house and send ds to nursery (almost £1k a month for three days a week...!)

I’m back to work on Tuesday so finally earning money again. So the frugalling starts (again) then.

Laska5772 · 29/04/2018 17:06

ooh Life ....exciting!! .. are you brave enough to post a rightmove link? (or will that jinx it? . you know how we've enjoyed trying to encourage Em)

SunnyLikeThursday · 29/04/2018 17:08

We've had a decent day today. Trip to the park and then several playdates, so fun for ds and quiet for me, which has been nice. Only money spent was £2 on ice cream at the park (in the freezing cold LOL!)

Unescorted · 29/04/2018 17:15

Laska they look amazing.

Wolf for pita bread just a simple yeast and water dough - any strong wheat flour. Make it on the soft side. Roll out with plenty of flour. Cook hot for 6 min... Should just be starting to colour. It doesn't require a second rise so Just use 3 trays... 2 in the oven staggered timing while rolling the 3rd. I would give you the family burger recipe but it can only be served on a brioche bun...with onion rings, crispy pancetta, crispy lettuce, Dijon mustard and a squirt of ketchup.

Fluffycloudland77 · 29/04/2018 17:25

400g strong white flour.
1tsp yeast
1tsp sugar
1tsp salt
1tbp olive oil
300 ml warm water.

Add all the dry together except 5he salt. Work oil in. Add half water, mix, add a bit more with the salt. Mix and then knead 3 or 4 minutes. Rest for an hour, knock back, knead. Shape and bake. I’m going to use my pizza stone seeing as I’ve got the oven on anyway.

cookingonabootstrap.com/2018/02/19/carrot-cumin-kidney-bean-burger-17p-was-9p-vg-v-df/ Burger.

You can get broadband with no line rental but it’s more expensive 🙄, I do loads of surveys and frequently get asked if I’d be prepared to drop having a landline. Obvs that’s a hell yes. I haven’t had a phone for years.

Worst case scenario with Netflix is that you cancel, don’t get a retention offer in the next few days and sign up via topcashback with one of you as a new customer.

I add lentils, Dh has never noticed. He would as he doesn’t like lentils....

lifelongfrugaleer · 29/04/2018 17:32

If we go under offer I will post a link. I don't want you all riding to the north east to buy it. However should you want to buy or rent a 3 bed semi, rush away

lifelongfrugaleer · 29/04/2018 17:33

For riding I meant rushing. You may ride if you want but think of the horsey.

Laska5772 · 29/04/2018 17:33

I make flat bread in a dry pan.
I just mix plain flour, salt, water a good dollop of greek yoghurt and some melted butter (about 1 oz for 10oz flour) . ( I cant really give you definite measurements as i go by feel ), but you knead it together to make a dough which makes a smooth ball, then break into smaller balls.

Roll out on a floured surface heat up your frying pan, ( dry pan no oil) . whack the bread in ,a couple of mins on each side, it should puff up a bit and will get a few blackened spots ( the best bit) .
Then make the next . ( I put them on a plate wrapped with foil in low oven until I've done them all

Wolfcub · 29/04/2018 17:42

Yum. Loving all the recipes, thank you Fluffy, Unescorted and Laska.

Ds makes great bread, mostly Richard Bertinet recipes, I might set him onto making some pitta next weekend and I’ll make the burgers. Incidentally unescorted you have made me feel very very hungry with your family burger description

ememem84 · 29/04/2018 17:44

(If you google le rossignol estates jersey and do a search for between £300 and £500k one of those is mine...)

ememem84 · 29/04/2018 17:44

I’d post the actual link but it’d be easy to get my address

QuiteCleanBandit · 29/04/2018 17:48

Lovely to see new posters here !
Its a lovely thread and has really kept me going recently.
Fluffy Ive switched Grin
Hurrah !
I joined mse energy club and have joined bulb saving me £626 based on most expensive usage time (now- its freezing Hmm) plus £30 cashback after 3 months .

I saw the other thread -one thing I will say is, sometimes when things are so dire it can be easy to fall into "fuck it ,everythings crap anyway so whats the point of saving a few pounds" mode.
Every pound counts and goes towards your debt and not increasing it more.
Ive gone from being OD ,CC debt to no debts and having savings and a nice cash cushion .
My lifestyle is no worse -in fact its so much better with no wastage and no worry !Smile

ememem84 · 29/04/2018 18:02

I thought that laksa however (jeeeez there’s always a however...) it’s next door to dads ex colleague who is money obsessed and is by all accounts a nightmare. He owns an apartment in our building and was most put out when he found out a) how much ours was on for and b) we owned it (not mum and dad) and c) that it’s a 2 bed.

Laska5772 · 29/04/2018 18:04

bum..

ememem84 · 29/04/2018 18:05

That ones in our price. However this is more of what I want. #dreamonprincess
