Average mobile phone monthly bill

Just wondered what is a reasonable monthly cost . I pay £17 a month £7 of which is paying off the phone. £10 for credit, data and calls.
My dh is paying an absurd amount . He has been paying loads for awhile I mentioned it when I did filing last year and noticed on his bank statement he said it was an error, two months ago he upgraded and said they gave him a really good deal as he had paid too much before ( presumably he meant when I mentioned it) he didn't say what it was but the bill is still ridiculous . He was meant to be paying in region of £25-30 a month. He is paying nearly £100 a month . I recently asked him about constant usage of phone and he told me to mind my own business. Even our child tells him he uses it too much!

Well I barely use my mobile as I am at home a lot so my package is basic, only 100 free minutes and not much data. I pay £17 a month (12 for the phone, 5 for the plan. My husband travels every week so he has a bigger plan, he pays £22 (12 for the phone, 10 for the plan).

I'm finding even these costs too much to be honest. I don't know if I'll sign up to another contract once I'm done in June.

Laucu · 16/03/2018 11:13

I should add that we rarely go over our limits, so never really pay more than the basic cost. Is he going over his limits and paying extra for data and calls? There must be an unlimited plan that will work out cheaper than £100 a month!

MirandaWest · 16/03/2018 11:15

£100 a month is ridiculous

gillybeanz · 16/03/2018 11:21

Mine is £12 a month as I'm added to dh contract.
A pain when they send me marketing texts with dh name on, but apart from that it's fine.
I wouldn't spend anymore tbh.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 16/03/2018 11:26

Was the really good new deal on an expensive device like an iPhone X?

Mines about £60 but I pay for my phone; and an iPad, and a fair amount of data for both. I'm comfortable with what I'm paying (it was somewhat stressful when I took it out so I couldn't negotiate as much as I normally would; I needed a phone I could buy and set up that hour).

I'd definitely be looking at what he's getting for £100 but if he's just upgraded, he might not have a huge amount of options available. Is he happy and able to pay the £100?

Pleasebeafleabite · 16/03/2018 13:24

Seems a massive amount. what is the breakdown between paying for the device and everything else?

When I got a recent sim only Vodafone deal they were doing sim only deals for about £22 which were unlimited calls and messaging, and 8gb of data. That is a lot of data

RoseMartha · 16/03/2018 17:46

It's a Sony Xperia

I've got a sim only deal - £14 a month, unlimited calls and texts, 8gb of data, unlimited data for netflix and deezer.

ladymelbourne1926 · 16/03/2018 17:53

Seems a huge amount I have a iPhone 8 pay £25 a month, have more calls and texts than I ever use and I think my data is 10gb which I never use either.

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/03/2018 18:23

Sim only in an iPhone 4S, £4 a month. It automatically logs into WiFi in shops so I don’t need much data.

Pseudousername · 16/03/2018 18:35

£100 a month for a Sony Xperia???!!!

Friendofsadgirl · 16/03/2018 18:38

I pay £6 a month and have a Sony Xperia on Virgin mobile.

Follyfoot · 16/03/2018 18:38

Hmm that doesnt seem right at all. I'd be wondering what he is doing with the phone that is costing so much. Could say with - almost - certainty that his basic monthly phone bill isn't that. Add in the mind your own business comment and I'd be really suspicious.

ItWentInMyEye · 16/03/2018 18:41

I pay £52 but that's including an iPhone 6s, an iPad for my ASD son and 24gb data a month that I turn into a hotspot for him when needed.

Quorafun · 16/03/2018 18:45

Even an iPhone X was only 68 a month when it first came out.
I pay 7.50 a month, but thats only for the phone. I think most premium contracts will be around the 40 mark. If he is using a hundred odd pounds worth, then he is doing dodgy things on the phone, and needs to have a good long hard look at what he doing. But given that he told you to mind your own business, I think he knows this, and you should be posting this in relationships rather than credit crunch

Flomy · 16/03/2018 18:50

Samsung I bought 3 years ago in Tesco Mobile shop £80.

Then pay £10 a month for texts, Internet & minutes. I never ever go over £10.

I have a £2.50 buffer in case I do though Grin

skippykips · 16/03/2018 19:54

Mine is £42. Unlimited texts and minutes, 10G data

NannyR · 16/03/2018 19:58

Mine is £7.50 a month with giff gaff. I bought a basic Samsung smartphone outright about 3 years ago and it still works fine.

Justgivemesomepeace · 16/03/2018 19:58

He's going way over his usage that is included in his tariff. He needs to contact his supplier and ask if there is a tariff more suitable to his usage or any bolt one he can add to bring the overall cost down. There is no reason for him to be paying that much.

RoseMartha · 16/03/2018 23:24

Thanks for the replies, I am suspicious about it and that's why I wanted to see what others pay .

5 pound a month on mobile. I get 2GB but use wifi so no issues.

ginghamstarfish · 16/03/2018 23:32

£4 a month, sim only, with more data/ calls etc than I can ever use.

seventh · 17/03/2018 05:32

£15 a month for daughter free minutes and texts 6gb data

£10 a month for me free minutes and texts 2gb data

Bought phones outright so sim only packages.

£100 a month sounds bizarre

strawberrysparkle · 17/03/2018 06:10

It sounds like he has more than one phone to be honest. Have a look online at Sony experia contacts, they are actually very cheap.

Flomy · 17/03/2018 08:30

Can you see the call logs on the online account?
