Bankruptcy looms. They may go into administration next week......

I haven't but I would be a bit concerned if I did have. Do you?

Dolphincrossing · 24/02/2018 10:23

My local store is closing down.

Healthywealthyandwise · 24/02/2018 10:23

I don't know why anyone would. You can get everything cheaper on Amazon - which is their problem in the first place.

MrsMoastyToasty · 24/02/2018 10:24

No, but I do know that one of their big stores in Bristol is closing down and they are selling everything off cheap including the fixtures and fittings.

metalmum15 · 24/02/2018 10:26

Two stores near me have closed recently, not surprising as there was never anyone in there. I used to take the kids when they were little but everything was full price, there were never any offers and half the stuff is cheaper on Amazon. I did like their baby bits though.

IntelligentYetIndecisive · 25/02/2018 00:29

I haven't bought anything from them, but it's this weird 'another one bites the dust' vibe.

It feels like we're witnessing something signifcant when major retailers keep going under.

I always thought toys were a 'safe-ish bet'.

PotatoesOfTheCarribean · 25/02/2018 00:48

Our local one is full of cheap filler stock and non genuine stuff, so giant weird soft toys and fake hot wheels. The lego section was tiny compared to what it was before Christmas and bath lines like Sylvanians and Playmobil are really lacking. Suppliers have clearly lost confidence in them.

PotatoesOfTheCarribean · 25/02/2018 00:49

(ex purchaser for a major retailer, btw. I'm just suprised they haven't gone into administration sooner...)

PotatoesOfTheCarribean · 25/02/2018 00:50

Ugh, typos. *BASIC lines

PickAChew · 25/02/2018 00:51

They've been bumping along for a while. Haven't ordered anything from them since the shitstorm of ordering 24 years ago.

PickAChew · 25/02/2018 00:51

14 years!

PickAChew · 25/02/2018 00:52

The Nintendo block was a good 5 years ago, now?

IntelligentYetIndecisive · 25/02/2018 11:26

It sounds like they've been limping along for years! 😨

QueenRefusenik · 25/02/2018 11:30

I feel bad for their employees but I won't miss them. Appalling customer service!

iBiscuit · 25/02/2018 11:37

They were rubbish years ago. I remember going with DS and they had hardly any gaming stuff in, and they did weird things like put Playmobil wth the preschool toys.

bunbunny · 25/02/2018 11:41

So a reminder to anyone with any ToysRUs gift vouchers or credit notes etc - get them spent now or lose their value Sad

IntelligentYetIndecisive · 25/02/2018 14:24

Yup. Absolutely. Sad

Not only is it too late for Toys R Us, I heard this morning that Maplin are going into administration today. 😱

I luffs them. 😭

I'm equally amazed that napkin have kept going so long. They're extortionately expensive and specialist mail order firms like CPC have a much bigger selection.

GreenTulips · 28/02/2018 16:01

I didn't like ToySRUs

Horrendous isle full of lucid pink on one side and blue on the other - nothing in between!

Detested going in!

Thy needed play areas for 'you testers' water play features, lego building blocks, even a small crèche sonparent spculd shop in peace near Christmas! and free wine

Litttle things make a big difference to customers

WitchesWeb · 28/02/2018 16:05

Tbf that was always the case for a month or so after Christmas even at their height.

zen1 · 28/02/2018 16:13

A big one near us has also stopped stocking Lego since Christmas and a smaller local one has big gaps on the shelves. I was in there a couple of weeks ago and the staff were talking amongst themselves about how fed up they were of telling people they weren’t shutting down, just reorganising stock.
