Happytobemarsg I think food and drink out counts as spending - at least I am counting it!

Littlechocola · 02/01/2018 22:48

2nd day of no spending.

Itis6oclocksomewhere · 02/01/2018 23:43

2nd day of no spending here too.
That'll change tomorrow as going birthday present shopping for DH. Determined not to go mad though and the sales will help hopefully!
I'm also going to go through the kitchen tomorrow and use up what's in the cupboards and freezer to try to put off doing a food shop for a few days.

grannycake · 03/01/2018 06:48

I'm back at work today so this is where my no spend starts. Packed lunch and taken in mug and teabags so should be OK Hoping to get away at Easter to Brittany so need to save enough for ferry and fuel

LaurieFairyCake · 03/01/2018 07:51

Day 3 - just spent £15 on 2 pairs of prescription glasses Blush - needed them and the deal was way too good to pass up.

Gah81 · 03/01/2018 08:40

Day 3 of no spending and the massive resistance of temptation in the form of the clothing sales that are currently everywhere!

Office coffee - while welcome - is unfortunately pretty dire. I may try the 25p Waitrose banana (>> 25p cup of coffee) tip mentioned earlier on.

drspouse · 03/01/2018 08:53

Back at work but just packed my lunch.
We need nappies (night time for 3yo) and I have a feeling it's going to be cheaper long term to buy washable. Bit of an addiction of mine unfortunately.

twinkledag · 03/01/2018 09:06

I forgot my lunch in the fridge at home! I will buy 3 days worth, rather than go to Pret.

I have brought breakfast with me, an Oat So Simple sachet. We have a Nespresso machine at work so no need to go Starbucks!

drspouse · 03/01/2018 10:41

Gah looks like we need larger base layers for skiing for our now-6-year-old too. How dare they keep growing?

TryingtobePrepared · 03/01/2018 11:00

If you want to have your coffee in at waitrose the cheapest thing are the mini men from the bakery counter, I think they are less than 20p so I get a coffee dd2 gets a mini man biscuit and a babychino 50p, not no spend but a coffee out for two of us for less that £1 is good.

FaithEverPresent · 03/01/2018 11:13

That’s not bad Trying!

Oh dear Drspouse, yes they do have a habit of growin

Valarmorghulisss · 03/01/2018 12:14

I'd like to join too, I need to dig myself out of overdraft over the next few months.

So far I've spent £40 on petrol, £30 on top up food shop, and £3 on lunch today.

I usually bring my own lunch to work, but had no leftovers today.

I'm aiming to spend only on petrol and food.

happytobemrsg · 03/01/2018 12:24

Ah I know it technically should count MsDeerheart, but I have a weekly catch up with my sister after baby class at a cafe which I can't cancel. I could take my own drink except I don't think it'll stay warm. I'll give it a go next week. Its every Wednesday so today I've spent £5 (though baby class was all locked up so that's £4 saved!). I also bought my foundation (so annoying) but I wear makeup daily & I reluctantly place it with my essentials at least.

ivykaty44 · 03/01/2018 13:29

3 down... no spending

still doing well, though dd2 popped to the supermarket for some food last night, but have taken cash out for supermarket & fuel ⛽️

I have prepared food each day for lunch the night before and still drinking my nestle packet lattes £2 for 8 in the supermarket

So am saving 😌 no sales, no lunch, no coffee spending

I have completely failed! I went to the GAP Sale! I may take it all back TBH! Blush

drspouse · 03/01/2018 15:01

I'm sending back a few impulse purchases from the Boxing Day sales too.

stayathomegardener · 03/01/2018 15:15

Good start so far.
On the
1st I ordered a sachet of Kefir £3.50 to make my own instead of spending £50 to have it delivered ready made.

2nd I found an old £5 note in a pocket when decluttering, so assuming I can get it changed I'm up.

3rd My birthday so being treated, including several £gifts perfect.

Also made the effort to go to Aldi- wow normal shop would have been about £80 but only spent £55.
Was very tempted by reduced Christmas stock, magnums of Champagne for £29 and a jeroboam of prosecco which looked fun but resisted.

stayathomegardener · 03/01/2018 15:17

Polishes 😇

stayathomegardener · 03/01/2018 15:18

In fact 😇 should be our NSD abbreviation.

Sonnet · 03/01/2018 15:25

Can I join please?
Plan to spend on groceries and fuel but no treats. I'm on dry january too.
It is DD2's birthday at the end of the month but I have money set aside for that.
I get paid again on 12th january (paid 4 weekly)
In the meantime I need to do a freezer and cupboard review and plan a weeks worth of meals.
The big save for me will be taking Breakfast, lunch and coffee to work!
so starting tomorrow.....

PollyShelbyLifeCoachServices · 03/01/2018 15:25

NSD! not a bean
been to library, kids enjoyed 10 minutes in park, donated 3 huge bags into charity shop. Bubble baths with Christmas bubbles all round this afternoon and then veg pasta and garlic bread for tea, then going to enjoy our library books. Not feeling pressure to go and spend because the kids are off school is very lifting, we are enjoying being at home.

Annwithnoe · 03/01/2018 16:57

Doing well here today, but mostly because dc are home and no hell is worse than shopping with the three of them arguing about everything and whining to buy stuff. So I just had no inclination to go out.

I made a list of all the things I “needed” in the sales last week and decided today that I could happily live without all of them. I think I’m going to make a rule for myself that I have to write down what I want and wait a week before buying it.

Ate far too many sweets today though!

AdoraBell · 03/01/2018 17:09

ARGH, had to go out and schedule meant coffee and cake needed Xmas Hmm I made DH pay though Xmas Grin so all I bought was painkillers, £4 ish

FaithEverPresent · 03/01/2018 17:12

I faced a challenge today, I needed a couple of bits from the shop I missed from my online shop. I went in and only bought off my list bar a Bella magazine for £1 which will save me £5 off rejoining SW tonight! This took quite some effort for me. I’ve totted up how much I spent on the online shop, in the shop and at the butcher and I’m on budget for the week, just have enough to buy a present for DD’s friend for a party on Saturday.

Good work Ann and Polly. Welcome to Sonnet! I’m feeling very motivated still Smile being on this thread is very helpful. Aiming for a NSD tomorrow, think I’ll stay home and tidy/batch cook.

explodingkittens · 03/01/2018 17:15

Hmm, I did spend a tenner today but it was on food so does it count? Bought tea and coffee for my office (the free stuff is rank tbh) and some stuff for my lunch as I'd forgotten to bring any.

Did have a quick browse on Amazon but didn't buy anything! So, not bad but not great either.

Trouble is I'm trying to low-carb it as well but I'm not yet in the swing of making lc-friendly lunches!
