£16 at B&Q on hooks for the under stairs cupboard

Cagliostro · 28/10/2017 11:26

Hoping MrSeacow and MrEm have a renewed appreciation for mums this morning!

I am all alone in the house with tiny DD2 for the first time as they've gone to Tesco. Trying to sort laundry while she's content but really I just want to pick her up for snuggles.

CurlsandCurves · 28/10/2017 12:02

Hi, is this a money saving chat type thread?

I need somewhere to vent and help keep me on track, got a lot to deal with at the mo ( well maybe not loads compared to some, but feeling a bit overwhelmed)

mammymammyIRL · 28/10/2017 12:10

Snuggly at 8am on a sat morn you're well entitle to be sitting in your pjs.

€50 on cut & colour at hairdresser - going to try stretch it out again until December for Christmas 🎄
Next up is carwash & breakfast from deli counter

Glad cag & em & seacow got some rest
Em i aspire to be like you in your relationship taking no shit and starting how you mean to go on

Let us know how fakeAway goes seacow I've never tried that one
Sounds like faraday bags were a necessary expense

Cag sit down & cuddle - that's an order !
Curl&Curves that's exactly what we do here - spill your guts if you want, don't if you don't, post several times a day or once a week whatever suits you. North described it the other day like talking to yourself! I liken it to a diary/chat with a friend

€15.60 on carwash, newspaper, 6 pack of 500ml water & a roll with sausages in Grin

Fluffycloudland77 · 28/10/2017 13:16

Curls Absolutely. Everyone keeps getting pg though Wink so you have been warned.

It's demotivating to think you've got to confess on here, it definitely helps.

Car service was £50. Just got to get the windscreen replaced & I can arrange for it to go back.

58 shopping days to Christmas

Cagliostro · 28/10/2017 13:18

Welcome curls this is a fab thread, lots of frugal advice but a whole load more besides Thanks

Mammy sorry about the not sleeping and the nightmares, you must be stressed :( what would help?

I should really wake DD2 for a feed but she's so peaceful and warm and fuzzy. Also my boobs hurt like hell 😱😳 so have to brace myself for each feed. She's getting plenty but her latch doesn't exactly work in my favour 🤔

mammymammyIRL · 28/10/2017 13:21

Fluffy my project for this bank holiday Monday is to get to grips with Christmas shopping. Meeting my family this weekend so will figure out what we're doing. Sometimes we do kris kindle sometimes small budget presents for everyone & we join forces for our parents presents.

Dh is sorted we bought a night away for our present so we must buy afternoon tea & dinner vouchers & we're sorted.

mammymammyIRL · 28/10/2017 13:24

Cag has she tongue tie? Can you get help with latch?

What would help with sleeping? I think it's dh to be honest. There's no arguing but he's still in spare room

Pinkpeppermintteaforme · 28/10/2017 13:26

Cag can u hand express a bit before she latches ?
Underarm rugby ball hold ?
My DD1 had a ferocious latch/suck
I also found cool compresses from fridge and good old cabbage leaves helped Grin

Pinkpeppermintteaforme · 28/10/2017 13:28

U? Hmm oops sorry for text speak !

ChristmasSeacow · 28/10/2017 13:34

I'd always leave a sleeping baby and enjoy the peace Cag (unless you are worried about jaundice - that can make them sleepy and then they can get dehydrated. I learned that the hard way Hmm)

Welcome Curls, I love your user name which also describes me pretty well hope I'd never be mistaken for a Seacow

Sunny our Honda unlocks without pressing a button- if yours doesn't then I guess you would be okay, seems logical. I'll know for next time I buy a car, although that's likely to be so far off they'll have invented a different useless technology by then.

LonelyOversharer · 28/10/2017 13:40

I went with toe curling gritting teeth cag it's not ideal, but does settle down quickly (and quicker with subsequent babies), I had a biggish gap from dd3 to ds (4.5yrs) and my body worked it out in a few days once my milk was in.

Hi curls we go off-piste with chatter, but you just post as much or little as you like. It's really helped me.

ememem84 · 28/10/2017 13:58

So. I’ve spent more than I meant to on a riding hat. £175. Shock However. It fits properly, it is a necessary spend as I’ve dropped mine a couple of times now. And you know, safety. I also annoyingly dropped mine this morning and it bounced down the stairs onto the wooden floor...

CurlsandCurves · 28/10/2017 14:00

Hi thanks for the welcome. Blimey lots of sleep deprived mums on here, you have all my sympathies! Mine are older now but you never forget those days when you feel you’re never going to sleep every again, lol.

Been struggling financially for about the last year. Don’t get me wrong, bills are all paid, we go on holiday, but the day to day stuff is just getting tougher.

We are both self employed and for reasons too long and boring to go into here, DH has taken a side step career wise. He was offered work in the area he wants to be in when he gets too old to keep doing his job now. The offer has come about 5-10 years before he was planning on it happening, but when the chance comes your way, you take it don’t you? But as a result, his income has dropped.

It’s the small things that hit us really. Grocery shopping getting ever more expensive, scout subs, swimming lessons, DH and DS both need new passports, school photographs have just been taken, the list just goes on. Because of the drop in income, the spare cash just isn’t around like it was and I hate asking DH for extra all the time as he’s working soooo hard to try and make up the shortfall.

So I’m just trying to do what I can. I meal plan and shop quite well already (Aldi, cheap brands, etc). But I’m sure there’s more I could do there.

Impressed myself and the kids today by NOT throwing out old bananas and transforming them into banana loaf which they love. And I’ve just chucked a load of veg that wasn’t looking too good into a pan to make soup, added some spices and it’s smelling lovely so that’s my lunch sorted for the next few days.

Looking forward to getting to know you all xx

Cagliostro · 28/10/2017 14:10

I know zip all about riding em but I'd have thought a helmet is one of those things that is absolutely worth investing in excellent quality! So exciting to be getting back to it all.

I asked them to check for tongue tie as I reckon DD1 had one (the hospital I had her in was shit from start of induction through to postnatal, so no support with feeding). But all clear it seems. In all honesty I reckon it's because she is small, her mouth is tiny and my nipple, erm, isn't. 😳😳😳 So she literally can't get enough underneath for a proper latch. It was fine with DS as he was so much bigger! Although still had that toe curling OWWWWW for a few days. But she is doing plenty of wees and is definitely guzzling away so hopefully ok. MW offered to watch her feed yesterday but baby was too sleepy and refused anyway as I'd already fed her recently.

Cold compress a good plan! DH bought me some flannels in case I get engorged (no sign yet, sure it should be today though) but I'll wet and freeze two of them I think :)

He also bought some Krispy Kreme donuts so I'm feeling pretty spoilt :o

ememem84 · 28/10/2017 14:11

Hi curls!!

Just to warn you this year we’ve always had 2 of us pregnant at any one time...only one at the moment....watch out!!! Haha!!

Cagliostro · 28/10/2017 14:11

Mammy sorry things are still not good with DH :( I hope it can be resolved or discussed in a way that can help you Thanks

ememem84 · 28/10/2017 14:16

Absolutely cag it’s just annoying as it was £75 more expensive here. “Only” £100 on Amazon. Sigh. But yes. Can’t put a price on safety (although if I wanted to really limit the risk I wouldn’t ride at all but where would the fun be in that?)

I cannot wait. Wednesday will be my first time since the end of July. I’m hoping I don’t hurt too much after. My instructor let me know it could just be the two of us so more expensive for me (only £5 more) but we can go out for longer so that’s good. If all goes well I’m goig to get myself back in the lesson on Saturday too. Yay.

Dh made a snarky comment about me “dumping” ds on him again next weekend and “surviving through the week to get to the weekend for a break” told him to shove it up his ass. (I am in a foul mood today...).

lifelongfrugaleer · 28/10/2017 14:25

I'm here still.
Crazy busy 11 hours at work yesterday, then aldi, Iceland and matalan.
Up at 5 today as dd has come down with a tummy bug. Work 7-1.
Supposed to be going to Whitby abbey but lovely English heritage transferred our tickets to tomorrow.

Loveabaconsandwich · 28/10/2017 14:28

Welcome curls lots of good advice here

DH still has quite a bit of adjusting to his new life to do em then.

DP has just painted the wall where the fridge is going. I need to get off the sofa and tackle the kitchen/dining room clutter

ememem84 · 28/10/2017 14:36

love yup.

I get he’s not feeling well. I get he’s been at work all week battling his cold. But. Do not dismiss what I’ve been doing all week as nothing. And do not criticise me for wanting a break.

Incidentally we’re supposed to be going out next Friday for my belated birthday dinner. I suggested we cancel. As ds will be “dumped” on my parents for the evening. Oh and also on weds morning while I go gallivanting off to the stables. Dh not happy about the threat of cancelling dinner.

My parents are going to come with me to the stables. And walk ds around the lanes and grab a coffee in the church cafe nearby while I ride. Nice for everyone.

I think valued opinions is down. Every survey I click on goes to please complete your profile.

I'm going to email them.

CurlsandCurves · 28/10/2017 14:44

@ememem I can assure you, if there are at least 2 pregnant ladies on this thread, neither of them will ever be me!

Sounds like your DH still has some adjusting to do re your little one. There are no set times off anymore, for either of you and you both share the responsibility of caring for a child.

I’ll never forget the day DH uttered the words ‘It’s my day off’ not long after DS1 was born. He’s lucky he got the chance to even try for DS2...

SnugglySnerd · 28/10/2017 15:11

Welcome Curls.

Having a grumpy day because we are all tired and fed up and DD1 seems to have developed selective hearing.
I wish we could take it in turns or do shifts with the babies but if they both wake up we both have to get up. DH is doing that every night and going to work. He's a hero although he thinks work is easier than being at home with them all at the moment!

Laska5772 · 28/10/2017 15:20

ill join grumpfest..

Sciatica is back with a vengeance (why?) and someone who was having a large piece of furniture (and who asked me to cancel a charity collection for it ) , now has just told me decided she doesn't want it after all (i think because of the man and van costs) and so I have to rearrange what I had already arranged last week! (having pissed of the charity I expect) sigh

Hairy Bikers braised featherblade beef in the oven.. using the cast iron frying pan and casserole dish I won on MN a few months ago for the first time. Le yum I hope
