Fluffy I've wondered a great deal whether it would have been easier to raise ds 70s style. Still not sure.

MeadowHay · 27/10/2017 17:26

Hope all sleep-deprived mothers manage to work something out soon that will give them a chance of a better nights sleep Smile. I am sure I will really miss my long, uninterrupted sleep.

Girlie DDog's antics are brightening up my days. I love that she can get out through the cat flap but not back in Grin.

Unfortunately I am not doing so well. Have been unable to keep anything down since a Maccies' veggie burger at around 7pm yesterday evening so it's looking like I may need to go to the hospital soon if this keeps up, sigh. I've been eating Cherry Drops though which I think is why I don't feel as awful as I otherwise would because at least I'm getting some sugar from them. Just waiting for GP to call me and tell me what to do Sad. DH has a terrible cold as well so things are tough here.

Laska My brother went in those walker things when we were little, that was early 90s. He's the next one after me so guess it was to help my mam while my dad was at work all day. I didn't know they were not the done thing anymore though tbh now that I think about it have not really seen them anywhere recently. Why is that?

needastrongone · 27/10/2017 17:34

fluffy, me too! DH had a nip of whiskey in his milk at timesGrinGrin, we was one of 4 under 6/7 years old. We are here, we survived. Think of how much fewer gadgets, info and 'knowledge' there was then. I agree, maybe there's something in it. Maybe we overcomplicate stuff.

Trying not to cave for a beauty advent calender, laska is on the S&B thread I seeSmileGrin

needastrongone · 27/10/2017 17:35

Oh meadow. Did you get to tell work? You poor thing. Yes to medical intervention now, you need to be physically strong. Poor you. Take care xx

needastrongone · 27/10/2017 17:36

*he was one of 4.

DSiL is one of 16!!! I bet you have to parent in a certain way then!

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/10/2017 17:37

The walkers went out of fashion, they can adversely a developing skeleton & the physios started counselling against them. I think they can tip over too.

£10 Amazon voucher received from Shotgun app.

Sorry you feel so awful Meadow Sad the baby magazines don't advertise this side of pregnancy do they?. I always think the cover models have fake bumps on.

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/10/2017 17:40

Sunny I have multiple allergies now though, it's not fun. I read one report linking early introduction of solids to allergies & one saying it prevented them.

I had wine regularly from 3. Grandma put whisky in my cocoa one night to knock me out & it had no effect as I was used to it.

Cagliostro · 27/10/2017 17:49

Oh meadow I'm so sorry you are feeling so awful :( that sounds incredibly tough to be keeping nothing down, you must be terribly dehydrated. Absolutely don't hold back asking for the help you need. Thanks

I've had a lovely bath (with a cup of milk, tea tree and lavender mixed in - magic potion for stitches!) and then had my first sad cry. I'm fine, absolutely fine, it just sort of caught up with me all over again about how awful those few days leading up to the birth were. I can't quite believe it really. And that's ok. Am being really well looked after and seeing my oldest friend tonight too. So glad to be home and able to deal with these feelings with my family rather than on a ward. Considering we were all convinced she would be tiny and poorly we are lucky to be home so soon.

And at dinner I get to eat as many roast potatoes as I like AND have a Yorkshire pudding or two :o yay! Although oddly I haven't craved/stuff my face with chocolate like I thought I'd want to. Toast on the other hand...

ChristmasSeacow · 27/10/2017 17:55

Need I really thought DD would just learn to get on with it, given how much I had to put her down to help DS. But nope. Always woke up, always screamed her head off. Sometimes for quite a while. I think her reflux has made lying down truly painful though.

In fact, she's throwing up all over me as I type this!

needastrongone · 27/10/2017 17:55

cag, totally understandable feelings and I'm glad you are just accepting them to be exactly as they are. Those few days before Rowan was born and even the whole blood sugar thing, possibly moving home, so much to process. A lavender bath sounds fab. Your DD1 sounds like a treasure of a help.

fluffy I'm the same and have no allergies. Sorry that you do. I guess we will never know in truth what causes them or causes you not to have them. Not really. We are all an experiment of one.

Cagliostro · 27/10/2017 17:58

Re sleep training, I just think whatever works is the best thing really, there are plenty of ways to make sure it is not traumatic for them. I do also think there is an innate ability to sleep (or not) though, the difference between DS and DD1 is just astonishing really - logically DS should be the awful sleeper as I totally 'made a rod for my own back' with feeding to sleep etc but he is absolutely brilliant. DD1 just didn't respond to anything at all ever, but finally being able to fix the shortage of melatonin in her brain was amazing. So really whatever happens you just have to do whatever it takes to get through, knowing your child is all that matters and if that means training them then so be it! :)

needastrongone · 27/10/2017 17:58

I know seacow, I often think of you, that's the truth. I think how tough you've had this early patch and how well you cope with your DC on such low reserves. Then throw together some amazing meal and entertain guests at the weekend. You rock!

needastrongone · 27/10/2017 18:00

Lastly, where's life, she's quiet. You okay life?

Cagliostro · 27/10/2017 18:02

Ah thanks need and yes DD (DD1!) is absolutely amazing with her. She doesn't want to leave her alone bless her just wants to cuddle and protect her always. I am not sure I will ever stop marvelling at that.

DS is getting there. Still very nervous but that's ok :)

I have to give myself anti clotting injections for the next nine days! Ugh. Good thing I'm ok with needles! I guess the pincushion feeling I've had since diagnosis is not going to go for a few more days :)

Tiddlywinks63 · 27/10/2017 18:05

I'm unashamedly lurking-many congratulations Cag, what a scrumptious little girl!
Feeding practices have changed so much- as someone brought up in the 50's umm....quite a while ago, it was common practice to put a spoonful of Demerara sugar in a bottle 'to prevent constipation', add a Farley's rusk to 'fill the baby up', Ribena for vitamin C (or rose hip syrup) etc. No wonder tooth decay was rife. Most babies were on solids by 4 months and bf 'wasn't quite nice'.
My mum was horrified that I BF DD for 10 months and she also thought pregnant women shouldn't go out 'because everyone will know what you've been up to'! 😳🙄😃
Enjoy your roast dinner Cag 😋

ChristmasSeacow · 27/10/2017 18:22

Totally understandable and fair enough Cag, you've been through the mill. I had flashbacks to DD's birth, mainly because of the speed / shock of it and really felt it took me a few weeks to process all that and put it to bed mentally. And it wasn't anywhere near as nasty as what you've just been through! But a healthy baby girl with an awesome name, and you feeling much better yourself and able to embrace bread products again, that's got to all be worth it!

Need I can't deny it's been a testing time but I think you are too kind Blush

I have just found a huge curly white hair sprouting out of my neck. Wtf?!

ChristmasSeacow · 27/10/2017 18:35

Ha haTiddly!

I was thinking Sunny, if I brought my kids up 70s style they'd have jam sandwiches in their packed lunches, mostly travel untethered in the rear footwell of the car or perhaps the boot (seats were for the adults, always overcrowded) and be sent out to the ice cream van to buy my fags* Wink

  • my parents didn't smoke but this was very common where I lived Hmm
Laska5772 · 27/10/2017 18:51

Seacow I am a Hampshire 'Hog!' Although I grew up just north of Portsmouth , my fathers family were country farming people. 'Gert' is just one of those words!

i don't know why there are no baby 'daleks' anymore.. It was great! i think they were considered to inhibit walking but that certainly wasn't the case with my Ds. he didn't crawl though until after he walked

Unluckily i had no support my xH walked a few days after ds born and my family was 300 ml away at the time. I did have good friends though

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 27/10/2017 18:56

Ahh yes travelling in the boot of the car those were the days.

My younger brothers are interesting as db 1 was weaned at 8 weeks as he 'screamed all the time' and was bf for about 2 days. Db 2 was exclusively bf for 7 months (my mum forgot how old he was apparently!) and co-slept till he was a year, bf for 18 months in total.

Can you guess which one is the healthiest?! Yep db 1, he is never ill, no allergies.

I know its only anecdotal but it does show that nothing is guaranteed!

need True... i have the Look Fantastic one and the Ciate one But Ciate was last years one from TKmaxx 19.99. . I treated myself this year as I always buy everyone else a nice calendar (Hotel Chocolat etc) but i have never been given one back..! Sad

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 27/10/2017 19:03

My frugal win this week has been buying a large chicken from Morrisons for £4, I don't normally buy and cook chickens but buy the already cooked ones iyswim. It has been a revelation how much better value it is to cook one at home, there is enough chicken there to feed me for the week, plus lots of extra bits for the cats/ dog!

Cag you are doing so well Star I couldn't even do my own clexane injections post emcs Blush i'm fine injecting anyone else but can't do myself!!

Need thanks, yes I think I am a bit impatient with her! She is a timid little thing and will take a while to get her confidence back I think.

ememem84 · 27/10/2017 19:08

DS has a bit of a cold. Very thorough doctor though I think he could tell I’m a first timer!! Absolutely put me at ease although did say that we essentially should ride it out. As long as ds is feeding peeing and pooping we shouldn’t worry.

WreckTangled · 27/10/2017 19:16

You could always just suck the snot out of his nose em...

ememem84 · 27/10/2017 19:17
