Frugal fail. DH has flooded the house again. Completely destroyed the kitchen

Fluffycloudland77 · 24/09/2017 14:04

How? Are you insured?.

Well this is a Sunday you won't forget isn't it?

Taytocrisps · 24/09/2017 14:05

Cag I love making lists. I wish I was as good at actually doing the things on my lists Grin.

Cagliostro · 24/09/2017 14:13

Lot of Frugaleer flooding going on lately! :(

Aaargh I just discovered that the Bionicles we ordered DS are in fact the wrong ones. It's confusing as several models have the same name and the big thing for DS is that they attach to a smaller one he already has (so like a Transformer which is his biggest ASD 'thing'). This one won't. He was so disappointed when he realised and I don't know what to do now. They are both sitting at the post office and not sure if we can return them.

The Caglets have never done the whole 'must have' toy thing at Christmas etc - they don't even write letters/lists - so not had to field expectations before. He was so fixated on this. The one he's realised about was out of his pocket money :( and the other one he doesn't know about was going to be the really special big brother present from the baby. I'm such an idiot I should have realised. WIBU to have a little hormonal cry, we've let him down not looking into it properly :(

CollieBobs · 24/09/2017 14:15

Drilled into a water pipe that's the last ever DIY he'll ever do.

Damage isn't as bad as we first thought but I could cry. Feeling so pissed off with him. But it was an accident. I know.

Just.... ARGHHHH

CollieBobs · 24/09/2017 14:17

The pipe is plastic and never showed up on the metal pipe detector thingy. Damn the wrong tools :(

Cagliostro · 24/09/2017 14:51

Oh no collie :( so frustrating.

I just realised that wholewheat couscous apparently needs different cooking to regular. Hope I haven't messed up my very late lunch. I read the instructions after I spilled a lot of couscous on the kitchen floor as I ripped the bag too much. Clearly not my day, can I go to bed yet?

Cagliostro · 24/09/2017 15:16

And then I realised that the feta had gone off (must use it up quicker next time) so I opened a pack of mozzarella and, you guessed it, spilled the juice everywhere too. FML.

MeadowHay · 24/09/2017 15:57

Hi everyone! I am useless at keeping up with this now as my job just sucks all my energy. Having a pretty awful weekend as my fatigue is just awful. I slept most of yesterday which was grim and then today mostly just been laying about feeling sorry for myself and tearful. I feel like it's really not fair that I feel so unwell and tired all the time on the weekend after a full working week, it feels crap that I have to put all my energy in to work so then I literally struggle to move on the weekends. Sad To be fair I think this is just a particularly bad one but blergh. Feel grim.

Cag Good luck with the moving. I found moving sooo stressful and we didn't have any kids to be sorting out. It was also a really unfrugal time for us, eek.

Frugal-wise things are still not going great. DH's referee at uni has just failed to provide a reference for him so his new job are still not letting him start. Therefore he has had no income for about 2 months now. He is now looking at possibly getting another temporary job if he can find something with an immediate start because it's just ridiculous now. I am working but on a low income. On the plus side, I got my first pay packet on Friday, which was 6 weeks worth of pay as I missed the cut-off the month I joined. Which is good as our savings are rapidly dwindling at the moment! DH went up the council office the other day to give in evidence for our housing benefit, apparently we are only eligible for £5 a week Grin but that will pay for the DGPigs veg so every little helps Grin. We also payed our rent a bit late this month purely because we've been so busy and sorta forgot about it Blush but luckily our lettings agents don't have any late fees (did they become illegal recently or am I getting that wrong?).

Hope everyone with flooded houses is managing to get it all sorted soon!

WreckTangled · 24/09/2017 16:01

Fluffy just did my first proper free matched betting. Hopefully I did it right as the liability is £69. Dh saw me doing it and thinks I'm stupid Hmm I'm hoping this bet will pay for ds' birthday present that I bought yesterday.

WreckTangled · 24/09/2017 16:01

Hi meadow! Sorry things aren't going great, I'm sure they'll get better

Cagliostro · 24/09/2017 16:09

Hi meadow it's good to see you Thanks I'm sorry things are so tough though. Jumping into full time work and getting used to a new place is tough enough as it is, but don't forget that with ASD on top of that, you are doing seriously well to manage it at all! You are using a lot of extra mental energy just to keep up with all the little social things that working involves, that most people find much easier than we do because it doesn't come naturally to us. It's no wonder it's exhausting, take it easy as you can when you get a chance to rest. Cake

Apologies for my ranting earlier. Hormones = crazy preggo Cag. Must get on with useful things now.

Fluffycloudland77 · 24/09/2017 16:16

Cag & Meadow Hugs to you both.

Wreck Well then he doesn't get the free moolah then does he?. I haven't told my Dh.

NSD.

Some good pet food offers on Amazon & extra discounts.

CollieBobs · 24/09/2017 16:32

Blimey there is a massive hole in the kitchen wall BlushShock hopefully the emergency plumber won't be here for long.

wonder if we can cover it with a picture until we can afford to patch up the plasterboard Sad

mammymammyIRL · 24/09/2017 16:33

I got out on my own to town luckily because I'm so lethargic having dc would have definitely resulted in my getting cross with them!

Aldi: 113.79 on remainder of shopping
Dunnes: 13.58 2x fibre one Bars on offer, 2x All bran golden crunch cereal & 3 pack of socks for dd
Woodies: 43.99 on laundry hamper, shelf for recipe books in kitchen & a grandson & nephew card for dgs's upcoming birthday
€8 on washing a duvet, first machine swallowed my money, they'll post my refund of €4, currently waiting for second one to wash.

Groceries have cost about €230 so next week needs to be a small shop.

lifelongfrugaleer · 24/09/2017 16:38

Oh dear some frugaleers are having a rubbish time.
Meadow don't worry about keeping up just pop on and see us when you can. I'm sorry the job is wiping you out. Hopefully it won't take long to get used to it.
Good girl Collie, be ruthless. Dry the kitchen out as best as your can add soon as your can. I'm sure it will be fine.
Cag I agree de clutter now while you can. In the grand scheme of things it's short term. Even into next year is shorter term than you have lived with it.
Check the t&c of the things of they don't deliver will you be refunded. Ie of you don't collect. Or will they swap for another kind if you explain. I know it's hard but these things happen and seen much worse when other shit is going on.

We were going out for an anniversary dinner but dh got called into work so Iceland chicken roasting and done batch cooking done

lifelongfrugaleer · 24/09/2017 16:41

Nsd today

In first world problem land I've just lost my plastic fish slice down the back of my drawers so can't turn my roasties

CollieBobs · 24/09/2017 17:02

Plumber has gone and it only cost £175 Inc VAT. We saved the lino and our furniture has also survived. Phew phew and PHEW!

So a picture is going up to hide the huge hole. And DH is banned from drilling anywhere ever again.

Stressful!

cag have you searched Pinterest for frugal storage ideas?

Going out for a nice Woodland walk after tea. Try and stroll our stresses away.

fluffy thanks for the heads up about cat food on Amazon! So much cheaper! Bargain!

lifelongfrugaleer · 24/09/2017 18:14

I thought I had no winter clothes do have just done a wardrobe audit. I have 2 weeks of work clothes off I make myself wear stuff I wouldn't normally. I just need some t shirt type tops.
Where can I get decent cotton long sleeve t-shirt?

LonelyOversharer · 24/09/2017 18:39

Phew, so tired. I have filled 2 dumpy bags with relocated good soil.

We opened the drain cover outside. Water 2" from overflowing, totally blocked. Ugh, well worse than that, actually. Next doors was fine, so blockage between us and them. Drain rodded from both ends, now clear. I had to climb into the drain to remove foreign bodies (sticks, stones, a random piece of metal?), not very nice.

Had to go to b&q in Penrith for new drain rods, and I got a new spade £53. So we had lunch in a cafe!! We never do this. We don't often sit in at MacDonalds let along a posh-ish cafe. Very nice, all dc behaved very well, dp not so much. £54! But remember there's 6 of us. Won't need much tea, but I've only just realised how late it is, so that's just as well.

Any baby yet em ? sorry!

wreck match betting is nervy at first, but you soon get the hang of it. I've still only done about 14 bookies, and have £380 in my betfair account, all profit. Haven't been doing much lately, playing slots mostly, but will ramp up before Christmas again.

WreckTangled · 24/09/2017 18:43

Really lonely? That's amazing. Where should I go once I've gone this one and what calculator do I use? I have no idea about the slots Confused

Loveabaconsandwich · 24/09/2017 18:57

Wow lonely I thought you were only having a mini dabble , how much do you think you have made MB fluffy ?

Ha ha at DP not being so well behaved, but the DC being good

DD1 slept 11.30am until 1.30pm, then DD2 decided to sleep 1.30pm until 3.15 so an odd day really. Lots of washing and tumble drying done as it rained. Bathroom scrubbed again after cleaning in the middle of the night. DP went to collect his work as he will stay home with DD1 tomorrow as I have to go to a conference. New outside solar light arrived today and DP put it up straight away —absolute miracle— so I have light on the driveway as no street lights at 6am.

£21 in sainsburys. £5 refund on some slippers that didn’t fit DD

Take it easy cag , you have lots going on

Great to hear from you meadow , such a busy and tough time and that is so frustrating about DH’s job. Do you think you may be able to reduce hours after you pass your probation?

Fluffycloudland77 · 24/09/2017 19:02

Probably £300ish. I stopped counting.

Loveabaconsandwich · 24/09/2017 19:06

Hope you feel better mammy

Collie that is one big bill. But it could have been even worse

I still need to look into matched betting. Not very keen on betting but I may have to bite the bullet

WreckTangled · 24/09/2017 19:13

I made £20! So it did pay for ds' birthday present 🙌🏼 if I hadn't placed the lay bet I would have made £90 but can't think like that or I'll stop making any money Grin
