I have just moved house (we got a mortgage) and have had loads of extra bills etc to pay the past week. On top of that our first mortgage paymentcame outtoday which is more than usual as it includes initial interest.
I live in preston and work in cumbria - a 40 minute journey and 12.70 train fare (with a railcard). I am working here until 22nd september and start a new better paid job on 25th september -the problem i have eis i cant afford to get to my current job for the next 2 weeks, let alone my new job!
So depending, I have no idea what to do!
Any ideas???

Extend your overdraft?

Lift sharing?

I'm surprised you can't get a credit card if you can get a mortgage.

sell something, borrow it or put on a credit card.

Could you ask childminder to just pay some of the invoice and you will reimburse next month? Ring council tax and query the double payments, ask for one to be refunded as they have left you without money to travel/food money, you can pay back in installments.

Do some ironing/cleaning/babysitting to raise a bit of cash.

Other than that I don't know what else you can do.

PandorasXbox · 06/09/2017 18:35

Borrow of family?

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 06/09/2017 18:36

You can get a mortgage but not a credit card? That really doesn't ring true...

Archifly · 06/09/2017 18:37

As soon as I start my new job i will have cheaper travel, better wages and cheaper childcare bill due to less hours.
I have no holidays left since i handed my notice in at work, he took some off me and put some of my sick days as holidays (which i know is wrong of him but he can be an idiot when thinga dont go his way)

I sympathise OP. I once took a job with a ridiculous commute thinking it would be ok and sometimes I couldn't afford to get there.

I would sell something like a phone or tablet.

Archifly · 06/09/2017 18:38

StealthPolarBear yes i have a little boy

Do your dc have money boxes

Shestolethewitchesredshoes · 06/09/2017 18:38

Who would underwrite a mortgage for someone who can't afford to commute to work? Surely this should have been reviewed?

babymouse · 06/09/2017 18:39

Loan from the local credit union?

CalmanOnSpeeddial · 06/09/2017 18:40

Archifly · 06/09/2017 18:43

Call your bank, speak to them about arranging an overdraft.

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 06/09/2017 18:44

So, I ask again. Where is your fellow mortgage holder in all of this? Is there anything they can do to help?
Just trying to understand here - how urgent is this as in, you can't even get to work tomorrow as there isn't a penny in the account, or as in I can get to work this week but then we can't afford to eat for the rest of the month.

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 06/09/2017 18:44

Sorry x posted there. Why won't he lend you money?

Archifly · 06/09/2017 18:46

I can get there this week but then ill have next to nothing left. As i just said my other half wont lend me a penny, never has and never will.

BrieAndChilli · 06/09/2017 18:46

I think you have bigger problems if your partner (and presumably father of your chld?) won't lend you money??

agnes2016 · 06/09/2017 18:47

Jesus some of you sound like a poorhouse judge trying to make the pauper explain herself 🙄.

She's had an unexpected bad month it happens.

OP hope you manage to sort it Flowers

If your mortgage is also in someone else'a name (partner, I'm assuming, you're not being very descriptive) then surely they at least have a credit history so could get a credit card to tide you over?

It does sound like you've overstretched yourselves if money is so tight and I'm surprised at your mortgage lender as for just a further advance for an extension we had to have a 2 hour interview which went through our finances with a fine tooth comb. We had been customers for years and never defaulted on our main mortgage.
