It's old China, glass wear (sugar bowls, jugs) ornament, tea and coffee set kind of stuff. There is about 6 big boxes. There is no huge rush unless we do sell this year. I think i will have a day without DC and pull them all down and open them up. I can see what might eBay and car boot the rest. It's something i see everytime i go into the attic.
I think I'm having a bit of a freak as i always wanted to move but now it could be a reality I'm not sure i want to add it's a bit overwhelming.

Taytocrisps · 19/04/2017 16:29

A car boot sale would work better for china and glass. We had a table at a sale before Christmas but we were mostly selling old toys, books, DVDs and jigsaws. The kids' stuff sold best because the kids who turned up made a beeline for the kids' toys and DVDs and parents and grandparents usually relented and bought them something. I had a few jigsaws (adults and kids) and they all sold too. I expected the kids' jigsaws to go but I was surprised that there was a market for the adults' jigsaws as well.

Fluffycloudland77 · 19/04/2017 16:56

I'd check its value online life, I would have kept all dhs exp eternal beau shite if I'd known how much it was worth. I binned it. You'd be surprised what people are willing to collect and pay cash in hand. I make them sign reciepts to say it's in perfect order and they assume responsibility. I countersign it, Dh thinks I'm bonkers but he thinks that anyway.

Mammy Flowers you poor girl.

Em Congratulations. I bet mr and Mrs will you knock £25k off are kicking themselves now.

NSD. Small suitcase ordered, will pay in vouchers tomorrow.

CremeEggThief · 19/04/2017 17:14

Oh MammyFlowers. We all know you weren't looking for sympathy, but we're all very sorry for your loss. I think you've been coping very well, even if you felt you were at 50% for a few years.

Life, are you planning a big move? Would it be worth seeing if any antique shops might be interested in the china and glass? Are there some such places in Darlington, near the big Sainsburys and Bannatyne's hotel, and Barnard Castle? I know ov one in Durham, but it's only open on Fridays and Saturdays.

Spends: £2.40 postage and £6.95 lunch in a pub with a pal. Stuffed, but I was still tempted by the delightful desserts. Came home and had a cuppa and a Hobnob instead. Maybe I'm getting some willpower back, at long last.

Mammy No words, there really aren't any words to convey the right sentiments. Flowers

Copper Wow!! Fantastic. If anything is going to make you save, it's something like that. If anything is going to stop you being frivolous, it's that!! Bloody good for you. My DF and partner have been, it went beyond expectation.

Life Definitely check the glass and china etc, the vintage look is totally cool and in at the minute. A full clear out would overwhelm me, but small bits might be more doable, but we all work differently.

Been in the field with the pony all day, his leg is badly infected. More vets bills, ho hum that's pets.

There's a cream ruched skirt in the Hush sale for £25. Just saying.....

Eternal beau, was that the octagonal plates with flowers and twee bows on them? I used to plan my future house with the aid of the argos catalogue in the 80's, and I hated it then! I suppose it's 'retro' or vintage now!

Poor pony need

life I hope you have an antiques roadshow moment, and a bit of seemingly non descript china turns out to be worth £££. I'm a one box at a time kind of personality, but always end up keeping more than I rehome. My house, attic, shed and shop are full of useful stuff..

Dp has reversed our big car into a customers camper van...not much damage, but still

Loveabaconsandwich · 19/04/2017 18:17

copper I have holiday envy. I've never booked a holiday that far in advance. Our most extravagant holiday was booked about 3 weeks before we went, on a bit of a whim. But glad we did it before DC

Loveabaconsandwich · 19/04/2017 18:18

Definitely tayto lots of little spends can add up to quite a bit Blush

lifelongfrugaleer · 19/04/2017 18:37

Yes there is an auction house/ valuers in Darlington creme. Good point. We are looking at upsizing hopefully as this house will be too small with 2 teenagers. Doing the finances today. The building society have said they say it's affordable but i need to speak to a mortgage advisor.

I will get into it, sorry for off loading.

I still have the black and blue ones with tags on need so don't tempt me with cream. I have no idea how to style them. Smile

£37 in sainsbury but got DC some sandals though.

ChristmasSeacow · 19/04/2017 18:44

Mammy Flowers

Hope DPony recovers quickly and ideally cheaply Need

I grew up in an Eternal Beau household, you've taken me right back Fluffy. You've also made me nostalgic Lonely with your talk of planning your home with the Argos catalogue - I did that too!

I was in Argos today. A bit cross because their index was useless but I eventually found, via Google, the toddler toilet seat with steps and handles I wanted (trying anything!) and also bought a toastie maker. £35 total.

Then Mothercare for some stuff for my hospital bag and a cute wee baby dress that fell into the basket . I bought stuff like lansinoh cream, ready made formula and sterile bottles for the hospital (memories of having to top up my woeful breastfeeding on the post natal ward and being baffled by the communal steriliser arrangements at 3am). Added up to quite a bit though - £50 ish. Then big Tescos. Again expensive - about £70 for food for 3 days and lots of other stuff I didn't go in for (but useful - fabric softener on offer, big bag of cashews from ethnic aisle, giant pants for hospital bag etc).

Good job I went hell for leather with chores this morning - got a call about 1.30pm to go and collect DS, whose temperature had gone back up again and he was upset. He was soooo happy to see me, and promptly fell asleep in my arms the minute we got home. ❤️

I am supposed to be taking him for phlebotomy tomorrow. I rang today to check whether they would take the blood if he had a fever - they said yes (no need to stay away as no D&V). So we will plough through and go unless he is very unwell, since my sister has arranged to come with me. (It may take 2 of us to hold him down so I was advised to bring someone - hospital staff can't restrain him)

I think I am going to have DS phlebotomy nightmares tonight. He is not going to like it.

lifelongfrugaleer · 19/04/2017 18:53

Sorry need missed dpony has an infection. Is it where he was kicked?

Look at you sea getting all ninja like with your jobs. Hope DS feels better after his nap

Cagliostro · 19/04/2017 18:56

Oh good grief I just saw how expensive the day out I'm going on will be. I agreed as it's part of a group we are in. Will be about £35 for entry, plus I have train fares (I'm much further away than the others who will be driving there/getting a lift) and a taxi to/from the station. Will take a picnic but will need cash for extras while there. Crikey. Good thing we haven't done a day out for a while and won't do any more for a while either! 😱😱 TBF we have had a really boring Easter - it's ended up being a 3 week break due to different county term times here and we've basically done nothing 😳😳

ememem84 · 19/04/2017 19:04

Woah. Birth tales. Eeep! I'm not scared though yet I'm blocking that part out have ticked the boxes for all the drugs and will go in with the view that things could change. So no pressure to go all natural etc.

My mum was 3 hours with me and 2 with my sis. Hoping for similar. as I'm a big wussy with pain

Realistically though it's got to come out....

Anyhoo.

House viewing went well. It was nice. Dh didn't seem too keen though. Three more tomorrow. Dh is doing two as I'm on a conference all day (changes to uk taxes and how these affect offshore trustees - fun) so can only make the after work viewing

Prawn pad Thai for dinner. Mmmmm.

ememem84 · 19/04/2017 19:05

Oh and nsd.

SnugglySnerd · 19/04/2017 19:12

Goodness, Mammy I'm so sorry, I feel awful that I've been going on about the twins so much that must be really hard for you. Flowers

lifelongfrugaleer · 19/04/2017 19:17

The drugs are awesome though em.

Laska5772 · 19/04/2017 19:21

Need! I definately do not need to know what is in the Hush sale , right? Angry (Luckily nothing that i had already ordered earlier)..Smile

Thanks for the hellos, its good to see so many of you still here (with new names,) I feel like I have come home..

Yes I have been Mnetting , but quite frankly , its a bit of a scary jungle out there sometimes, well mostly.. (except for Style and Beauty , which I really shouldnt keep going on it got me my Hush habit) so its nice to read this lovely supportive thread again ,

Girlie , I have been thinking about your leatherjacket problem.. ( its not easy to get rid of them ) . Sadly a housing association I worked with on some newbuilds a couple of years ago ended up getting rid e of the top 18" of topsoil in some of the new home last year and replaced with new. Probably not what you wanted to hear. But maybe you should talk to the builder and your neighbours , If you all have the same issue , perhaps they will do the same for you .

Or else you could ( but its yuk) cover the plot in black plastic , and they will rise to the surface , where you can nuke ( pour boiling water on ) or (horrors) pick them out! . Other wise I think its nemotodes.. oh and getting feeders to encourage birds could also help . But if you do get them out , there will be a lot less next year.. (if not they will be back even more sadly)

So finances here..
Its a bit of a 'short' month for me as we have had lots of the big yearly bills lately, insurance and stuff, and although I do have money in the bank, I am trying to rebuild the house 'contingency budget' for these things and save up for the next years ones..

So today i got out £40 for the rest of the weeks food abd stuff , ( I now only have £70 more in budget until payday) ,

But i got the £8 change from my modest toiletry (of £2 in Boots ) spends in £2 coins today .. and we have a £2 pig.. .. Its part of my saving 'tricks' i have got into ,(DH and I put all our £2s in and they get used for a treat when piggy is full) .So I just cant spend those coins.. ..

so This means just £30 for the rest of the week until Sunday .. .and fridge is pretty bare DUH!....

I had better not get any more £2s!! this week, or its toast and beans for us ( ok we have stuff in the freezer) , But perhaps you think i am being over frugalcompletely daft?)

.

Laska5772 · 19/04/2017 19:27

Em dont worry, you wont care when its ready to come out , it will be al you want.. . Mine was 12 hrs but only the last couple were that intense if I remember ( from 27 years ago !!).

mammy just adding my thoughts to the others here for you , there are no adequate words ..

Laska5772 · 19/04/2017 19:28

House viewing exciting Em .. fancy showing us some? I presume you are still in CI?

ememem84 · 19/04/2017 19:42

Broadlandsjersey.com

this is the agent ours is on with.

Yes still in CI. Not planning on moving to the mainland uk. Although we could buy a 5 bed house with land for the price of our flat in certain parts of the uk. We love it here.

Laska5772 · 19/04/2017 19:54

I love Jersey Em lucky you for being able to live there.. our Island (IW) is not half as nice ( but a heck of a lot cheaper!) . Looks like I could only get a share on a flat or v small house for what our house would cost worth (n I was eligible to live there) .. you could definately get something fab here ..

Here, I will reciprocate with my dream Motorhome . I saw this at the motorhome show and cant afford new.. Sad

Laska5772 · 19/04/2017 19:57

This is the very one I sat in

lifelongfrugaleer · 19/04/2017 19:59

Wow em, nice houses, nice prices too as well.

lifelongfrugaleer · 19/04/2017 20:01
