Small spends yesterday in Boots and M&S. Needed a new moisturiser - I do have a Balance Me freebie but it is too rich for everyday use.

Also had to buy petrol.

Have been pricing up carpets - hard to know whether to go for cheapish knowing we would have to replace in 5 years or quality hoping it will last longer. The cat has ruined our current one.

WreckTangled · 05/03/2017 14:50

We always go for a more expensive underlay and a cheaper carpet.

Ha ha Meadow! Until recently DS called PILs 'GrandmaGrandpa' (one word, regardless of whether he was talking to one or bith of them). I liked that too Smile

Wreck - is that a stealth boast re eyelashes ? Wink I'd love curly eyelashes!

£2 buying back two bits of my own lemon drizzle cake and 75p on a cupcake and book for DS at the charity market.

Ipsomatic · 05/03/2017 15:36

I used to wear no. 7 concealer sometimes when I wanted to look super-glam. :-) It always did the job, I think.

We seem to be back to park-going weather, which is very nice. Much easier to get through fractious parts of the day when a trip to the park is an option again.

WreckTangled · 05/03/2017 16:31

Haha seacow I'm very lucky with my eyelashes but I get annoyed because they would look longer if they weren't so bloody curly Wink

My dishwasher isn't cleaning the dishes properly and I have put one of those cleaner things through it to no avail. Can they be serviced?

Ipsomatic · 05/03/2017 16:55

Trying have you forgotten to put salt or rinse aid in or anything? We did that once for weeks and week. I know you probably haven't but just in case. I'm not sure if they can be serviced. Ours went bonkers once and the engineer wrote it off and gave us a new one for free.

lifelongfrugaleer · 05/03/2017 17:00

i'm not struck on no7 - its a bit orange for me - i just wear bb cream but my go to brand is max factor for face stuff. That said ive had lipstick success with no 7 on the colour match thing. eye shadows are where i need to find my colour. Also i have blonde eyelashes so prefer brown mascara, thats brown cosmetic companies not brown/black.

Went to footy and dd went swimming so £10 spent today.

Defo get decent underlay as it can make or break a carpet. We got our from carpet right on their 1/2 price event thing. About £700 for a room 4.5x5 m sq ish

lifelongfrugaleer · 05/03/2017 17:02

trying have you run a hottest cycle, cleans the gunk things (drain), rota arms? I dont have a dishwasher so may be talking shite but they seem to be the go to bits of advice. feel free to ignore me

Brightermornings · 05/03/2017 17:20

So I'm not hungover just very tired today. I'm also very smug as I did all necessary housework yesterday including ironing of school uniforms and work clothes.
Didn't spend too much but I have just ordered Indian takeaway.
Has anyone else heard of kon-Marie?? I'm o a Facebook group there is a book but I've only read a bit. It's about stuff and how you don't need stuff. I'm trying to incorporate it as much as I can. I've not bought anything unnecessary which is helping my bank balance!!

WreckTangled · 05/03/2017 17:25

Have you emptied the drain thing at the bottom of the dw like a filter?

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 05/03/2017 17:38

£16 yesterday
NSD today.

Needastrongone · 05/03/2017 17:45

I've done a freezer inventory today and made cheese scones.

Menu plan for the next few days -

Lentil and veg spaghetti.
Zingy lentil and lemon soup.
Shredded beef.
Pork chilli enchiladas.
Kedgeree.
Fish and chips from the freezer.
Lasagne. with salad.
Lamb curry in the SC.
Smokey sausage, veg and bean stew with rice.
Bacon, mushroom and leek risotto.
7 veg pasta (Jamie Oliver).
Minestrone soup (Jamie Oliver).

Think NSD.

IdStillRatherBeKnitting · 05/03/2017 17:49

brighter I think my sister bought me that book to "help" sort me out. It sits unopened amongst the clutter!

trying the filter at the bottom of our dishwasher was growing an opaque jelly substance. Enough said. It has worked perfectly since dp cleaned it out. Eugh.

Don't wear any makeup. Never have. I feel so self concious if I ever even put on tinted lip balm. Quite pathetic considering I'm 40. I just look old and drab now.

Mil has been and gone. House superficiality tidy. No manure as its waterlogged (I totally let her off). Had to pop out for veggies, none at all in the house! £20 in local sainsburys. Have planted my first early potatoes, and dug in the swamp-that-was-a-backgarden for 2 hours.

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/03/2017 17:57

Ooh yes I did lentil soup too. 85p homebargains red lentils, two onions & a bit of oil and seasoning.

It should do my lunches for the week.

lifelongfrugaleer · 05/03/2017 17:58

I've heard of kon Marie. There were loads of threads on here about it.
I took from it folding your clothes on end in drawers do you can see them all. If you don't love something and it doesn't give you joy it goes. If you struggle to get rid of something you no longer need thank it for its service, then get rid.
I'm sure there is more but they are the main bits I remember.

ememem84 · 05/03/2017 18:02

I liked the Lon Marie stuff. Was it her that suggested only having 40 possessions? Not sure I could cope with that.

£30 lunch. We didn't go to the cinema. Lunch ran over so we went to the naice hotel across the road and sat in the window overlooking the harbour (the stormy harbour) drinking tea.

allthebestplease · 05/03/2017 18:03

brighter I love the Kon Marie book it has totally changed my outlook and helped me clear my wardrobe and now when I go to buy something (not just clothes) I say to myself "will this item bring me joy or can I be happy without it".
Has stopped me buying soooo much.

We went to park and then got drenched.

Bought bread flour for bread maker (I'm in love with bread maker - I love bread, and so do my hips)

Needastrongone · 05/03/2017 18:17

Folk that are veggie and vegan or, like us, not either but like their food. Here's a fab book. It's very rude. Brill recipes, mainly with a spicy Mexican twist. You have to tolerate swearing thoughSmile

We survived Charmouth, weather was nice for about 2 hours and then totally chucked it down which was a shame. Had a nice time though, only cost £1.50 to park and we took plenty of food and drink. Dd and the dog are completely worn out now bless em, they are both on the sofa not moving watching Fantastic Four!!

I have had trouble with mn this week as well, its very slow and not loading for ages Hmm

I like max factor for foundation and mascara, I find lots of mascaras make my eyes itch but max factor tends to be o.kay. This is pretty much all the make up I wear!

Had jacket spuds for tea with beans and cheese Smile

Needastrongone · 05/03/2017 18:24

Girlie I know you can't have a dog, but you are SO dog people.x

CremeEggThief · 05/03/2017 18:25

There are lots of threads on Kon Marie in the Housekeeping section, Brighter. Have a read and see what you think.

Speaking of housekeeping, that's what I've been doing all afternoon. With 2 illnesses and working more this year, there were lots of jobs I was behind on. So, today, I've vacuumed upstairs; dusted the entire house; cleaned the Venetian blinds with wet wipes; cleaned all the screens and mirrors; cleaned the fridge; washed fridge veg drawers and 2 freezer drawers; taken in and put away the online shopping; washed up twice and cleaned the kitchen table and surfaces; and 2 loads of laundry. I think that's enough for today! Tomorrow, I need to do my usual Monday chores of vacuuming and mopping downstairs, cleaning the bathroom and 2 more loads of laundry.

NSD, but £44.95 for the Sainsburys delivery will come out tomorrow.

I haven't finalised a meal plan yet, as we have parents evening tomorrow and DS has an activity on Thursday. Pasta bake (carried over from last week), jacket potatoes, gnocchi with pesto and avocado, veggie burgers and chips, stirfry ingredients and pizza are what we have in, but I need to work out the order.

CremeEggThief · 05/03/2017 18:28

Looks interesting and entertaining, Need. "Eat like you give a fuck"- I like that! Grin

Needastrongone · 05/03/2017 18:45

It's really funny Creme. This is what it's like all the way through. DD got me it for Christmas.

I like the sound of that book :o

I'm worn out from this weekend. It was lovely though and I feel rather spoiled :). Sheet music shopping, lovely lunch at a charming little Italian place (Da Paolo - worth a look) and British Library. I was properly geeking out at some of the stuff in the Treasures room. Wow!

Bit stressed mind you, got loooooads going on this week and loads more we need to get done ASAP with banking etc. Also DSD is struggling at uni financially until her next loan payment 2 months away. Long and complicated (and 'outing') story but it's definitely not all down to her. Thankfully she's back in a month's time for a 4 weeks - and will be working loads at her old job - but in the meantime... eek. Was thinking of getting a Tesco delivery ASAP but not sure how much we can stock her up when she is house sharing so not vast amounts of freezer space etc. Any thoughts? Any other help will be towards her laptop (she gets a grant to cover most of it as she's finally - FINALLY - been formally diagnosed with SEN) and we can't afford more than that really. It's also her birthday soon but I was thinking of getting her a cinema giftcard for part of that because we stopped her unlimited card when she moved somewhere with no cinema! But she can use it here in the Easter hols. Any other ideas of how to help practically when we are not exactly rolling in it? What would be the most useful things to see her through? She'll be fine once the next loan arrives, it's just she was (not sensibly) relying on something that didn't come through this time.
