Dh has just been put on 3 months gardening leave as,he is being made redundant.

Luckily we have income insurance to protect us for 12 months.

Does anyone know.if this is taken into account when calculating what benefits you are entitled to?

Also if it's not where do we start?

Once his pay runs out he can apply for contributions based job seekers allowance if he wishes. I guess any income insurance would count as income for tax credit purposes. If he is the only wage earner and does not find another job soon then I think you can get help with paying the interest on your mortgage ( if you have one) but I think the wait is now 37 weeks from claiming JSA. If you are renting then you may get help with housing benefit depending on household income.

Thank you babyroobs.

He is going to go to the job centre to find out what is what.

Unfortunately we have a massive mortgage.

Will the income insurance be sufficient to cover your mortgage payments?

WicksEnd · 20/02/2017 11:14

Honestly he'll hav a waisted journey. There's no walk in benefits advice at the jobcentre.
Either go to CAB or have a look on the Gov.uk website.
He'll qualify for contribution based jsa once his pay has stopped in 3 months time.
Hopefully he'll have found something by then 💐

Unbelievable Hmm

Sums up pyramid selling that you would use this thread to advertise your little scheme.

If you pay your council tax over ten months ring the council and switch it to twelve. That helped us a lot when DH was made redundant.
