Payday for me tomorrow I get paid every 4 weeks. It's the first time I've not been very close to my overdraft limit for quite a few months. I'm feeling cautiously optimistic Smile

ememem84 · 16/02/2017 17:34

Ooh I remember the bcg vaccine. I also remember getting super freaked at school when we had the boosters for polio. I had read it was given orally. I swear I thought they injected us in our tongues. Shock turns out. They don't.

ememem84 · 16/02/2017 17:34

Oh. NSD today. Although bush sent me a code for 10% off spring summer stuff. bad hush

ChristmasSeacow · 16/02/2017 18:03

Ha ha, thanks Need. I may have spoken too soon- where has the angelic child of lunchtime gone?! Ipso while he might not need much discipline now that might change in the future! I am actually quite strict (in that I would not put up with badly behaved children and bad manners). I suspect DS is just not usually the wilfully naughty type (like his dad, who was a very good child by all accounts). No doubt DC2 will be the opposite! more like me

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/02/2017 18:35

Meadow You can also ask your mp for help. Keep going, you've got nothing to lose by keeping going.

wreck Can't they just do a blood titre level?.

rafa Welcome back.

£10 petrol.
£80 robotic vacuum cleaner. I used my co-op cashback. 2% cashback off Kidstart.

WreckTangled · 16/02/2017 18:42

I'm not sure fluffy I've emailed them saying I can't eat evidence so I suppose the rest is up to them. My references was emailed and received today (my work don't do references though only confirmation that I work there) so I'm hoping I'll have a non conditional offer soon.

SnugglySnerd · 16/02/2017 18:45

They call it the school leavers' vaccination now which strikes me as odd when it's given in year 9! They have a jab in each arm. It is strange that the BCG is no longer included, I think TB has increased in Birmingham although mainly amongst communities who often visit developing countries. Presumably they could spread it when they return though so I don't understand why the vaccine isn't still given to everyone.

There's no story on ITV news in a few mins about a robot being used to help autistic children - might be interesting!

Anyway, back to frugal matters, managed an NSD and had lunch at my mum's!

CremeEggThief · 16/02/2017 19:12

My DS had the BCG soon after birth, as we lived in East London at the time, where TB rates were high.

Ipsomatic · 16/02/2017 19:27

Em That's hilarous about the oral polio vaccine. In our school the rumour was that they might run out of sugar lumps and just put a drop on our tongue to swallow. Shock

Fluffy very exciting about the robot vacuum cleaner. Mine is like a pet dog and cleaning staff member rolled into one. Just fantastic.

Cagliostro · 16/02/2017 19:32

I missed the school DTP jabs as I was ill so I had to get it at the doctors instead. No sugar lump :( :(

mammymammyIRL · 16/02/2017 20:44

Knitting what are deep fried pizza pockets? Pitta filled with cheese & toppings?

My spends today were diesel & soup for my lunch, buttermilk & flour for baking brown bread & spread €28.90 personal spending €13.65 joint spending

lifelongfrugaleer · 16/02/2017 21:12

Ah meadow sorry to hear that. How today is a better day. Faceless government departments is what it is.

I had bcg but we had a skin prick test the week before (it was 6 pricks in a circle on the inner wrist) to check for immunity.

£3.70 on second lunch greedy. £4 fitness to counteract 2 lunches.

Taytocrisps · 16/02/2017 22:34

Sorry I've been MIA. Been going through a busy patch but all is ok.

Our boiler has been playing up and gave up the ghost altogether tonight, so we'll have to get someone out to look at it. It's a pain in the ass. I'm lying in bed with feet like blocks of ice Sad. For once I'm looking forward to work tomorrow because it will be warm there!

IdStillRatherBeKnitting · 16/02/2017 23:00

mammy pizza dough, rolled into about 12cm circles, blob of filling, sealed like a crispy pancake, and deep fried. Like a filled savoury doughnut. We assume very unhealthy, but it is a meal that all 6 of us will eat. I am so sick of a turkey dinosaur (what a waste of the oven for 15 mins) and six bits of steamed brocolli for ds.

I had another wierd evening nap, must sort my energy levels out. Will work for a few hours as I'm now not tired. Watching Ripper Street now, they're easy enough for me to follow!

tayto bloody boilers. Dp has taught himself to strip and fix our good but temperamental boiler. We're lpg as well so can never get anyone out. Our shop is bloody freezing in the morning, so I always want to stay home!

Ipsomatic · 16/02/2017 23:09

I just looked at my energy monitor and I can really see the effect of this colder winter. We've had lots of frosts this year after having had really none for the last three winters.

Fluffy you haven't said anything for ages about loft lagging and stuff. Have you moved on to other things? I miss hearing your ideas about saving power at home.

Evening everyone.
Had a nightmare of a traffic jam on the M40 tonight. Was jammed solid. Journey that normally takes 1 hour took just over 3 hours. Nearly ran out of diesel. Had to buy some at the services. Cost £1.32 per litre. Day light robbery.
Apart from that NSD.

ChristmasSeacow · 16/02/2017 23:46

Mammy I read that as you having had diesel and soup for lunch. Two courses. Le yum. Grin

Cagliostro · 17/02/2017 00:03

Mmm diesel and soup. Puts a new spin on the idea of a Liquid Lunch.

mammymammyIRL · 17/02/2017 00:26

Interesting combination guys - I really had brown bread with the soup Wink

Thought ds was very warm going to bed, said to dh maybe he needs some medicine, 'nothing a good nights sleep won't cure' guess who's been up cleaning up puke 🤢 not dh Sad

SnugglySnerd · 17/02/2017 06:28

Ipso I agree, we've definitely had the heating on more this winter than in the last couple of years.
Tayto our boiler once packed up in the middle of winter, I sympathise! We got so cold we went to the cinema just so we could sit in the warm for a couple of hours!

Meant to say the other day, on MSE email was a deal to get a Kids Pass trial for £1. It's an app, and the trial would last until end of April so would cover Easter hols. It has lots of free meals for kids in restaurants, money off cinema etc. I think DD is too young for us to really take advantage of it but I thought some of you might be interested.

Should be NSD today, hoping to stay in bed for most of it!

lifelongfrugaleer · 17/02/2017 07:02

Car cost £93 yesterday. Crash sensor wire.

Tryingtosaveup · 17/02/2017 09:50

Life, what's a crash sensor wire.
Snuggly thanks for the tip re MSE email tip for kids pass. Will get one for the DGCs for Easter hols.
Have to go back with my new, expensive laptop. Can't get my emails on it although it is certainly me being useless.

mammymammyIRL · 17/02/2017 10:35

snuggly dh said the flask is brilliant. Filled it yesterday morning and the water was still hot this morning after using it during the day yesterday. Cap only turns a little twist to pour out water rather than having to open it fully and let steam out and cold air in.

MeadowHay · 17/02/2017 11:35

TB rates are rapidly rising now if I'm not mistaken, driven in large part by the massive rise in homelessness over the last few years. Homeless people are far more likely to get TB than the general population and it spreads really fast in hostels/inadequate housing and beyond. Really sad, I don't know much about the vaccine though.

Yesterday was NSD, today I need to do a small online shop though. Probably at Iceland as cheap.

Yesterday served dinner to the homeless at a local charity, well me and another girl were in charge of hot drinks. Was very tiring as I was sooo anxious for hours before I went and when I first went (was part of a volunteering thing from uni so there was a group of us) but when I got there the manager was super nice and I got straight to work and am glad that I did a good thing for people. Smile

Today will be chores and studying I guess. Feeling bit better again today, in part because of all your lovely responses.
