My kind of recipe Seacow. DH wonders why we can't just have sausage and chips occasionally. Grin

Seacow You strike me as someone that is able just to 'leave it behind' or 'let it go' though. Compartmentalise. Not dwell. Which is A Good Thing.

Thank you all for the cucumber info, and for the links Cath. I've done 2 things in the past. Started quite early and had excellent results, but it was a mild summer. Started later and (like Knitting) ran out of time. I'm really a novice though, sorry I must sound like a dingbat!

ps - Radio 5 is on all day here, it's how I keep abreast of news.

IdStillRatherBeKnitting · 02/02/2017 19:58

Right, frugal me is ShockShockShock at the stupid number of seeds unfrugal me has bought and not planted (lots of packets are unopened). Have been ruthless with my marshalls order, and taken lots off (as I already have almost identical seeds).

We are planning a 6 x 4 m raised bed with a bench using breeze blocks for the not used back garden (front garden all raised beds), which I want to grow courgettes, squash, spinach and carrots in.

Argh my step dad just phoned me because my mum was having a massive hypo and wasn't responding to him he was panicking and there was a part of me worried it wasn't a hypo but something worse. We sorted it though she came round.

Sainsburys swipe and win is on this weekend Friday to Sunday. Every. £10 spent gives a points win.

SnugglySnerd · 02/02/2017 20:34

That sounds a bit scary, wreck, hope she's ok.

Really positive hospital appointment. Dr finally happy with the babies' growth and reckons I'll be able to cook them for a few more weeks. Feeling very relieved! Midwife told me to get my hospital bag packed though, just in case!

WreckTangled · 02/02/2017 20:37

Good news snuggly!! Any chance of a bump pic??

Thanks life may now go to Sainsbury's tomorrow instead of Tesco (easily led astray)

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 02/02/2017 20:56

Didn't realise your mum was a diabetic as well Wreck that must be so frightening for your dad. Yes lots of EoL at the mo Sad I find palliative care rewarding in some ways, to help someone have a peaceful, dignified death at home is what we aim for. But it is emotionally draining as well esp the younger ones.

I think someone asked about my cat costing me money when the insurance runs out (Seacow?) my pet insurance covers one year per condition and unfortunately for me both my cats have long term conditions!! Girl cat isn't too bad as she just needs steroids which are quite cheap but boy cat is on insulin which combined with needles and test strips will add up. The vet is going to load me up with loads though when that runs out will be about £30 a month'ish....

ememem84 · 02/02/2017 21:10

Back from meditation class. I fell asleep.

CremeEggThief · 02/02/2017 21:11

Oh Em!Grin

Lovely news, Snuggly. Really pleased for you.

Cagliostro · 02/02/2017 21:30

Yay snuggly that's awesome!

Tryingtosaveup · 02/02/2017 21:37

Girlie and Wreck....I just couldn't deal with end of life care. I really admire you for having the strength and patience to do it. Dealing with the family must be so hard as well. Totally draining I would imagine. Am I right in thinking you are both nurses or doctors. Anyway I hope I have someone as nice as you two when it's me.
Need, I know exactly what you mean about running. I used to run every day and it is addictive. I felt bereft if I didn't run and full of joy if I ran well. I am told it's the endorphins. I changed to the Tri and competed in a few and now have a £1000 bike in my conservatory and a turbo trainer in the garage. One day I will do it again.
Cag, Seacow is right, complain to the council. It is not right that they are rude. I'm afraid I do complain if people are rude. Mistakes I can deal with but rudeness is a different matter.
NSD... Well apart from 1.5K to the builder ( don't count that)

SnugglySnerd · 02/02/2017 22:03

Do you know what, wreck I don't think I have a single photo of myself pregnant either this time or last! I'll try and get DH to take one if I can fit in the view finder

Just been eyeing up houses on Rightmove again...

mammymammyIRL · 02/02/2017 22:03

Loads of interesting chat here since I left work at 17.20. Last night of cooking course. I'll post recipes if anyone's interested. I'm too tired to comment on all your posts now.
TG tomorrow's F!!!

This is my analysis for the evening.
I put up 3lbs at Christmas & while I was sick. Prior to Christmas I was in a lose gain lose sts gain lose cycle. Since I went back on Jan 4th I've tracked every bite. I've lost 2.5lbs in the month but I didn't gain any week, maybe I've broken the cycle.

Happy to be down, of course we always want more but I've not gained since week 1 in Jan so hopefully that cycle is broken. Even if I 'only' lose 2.5 per month I'll be back at target before my 35th birthday feb 2018
This will bring me to a bmi of 24.7, which is on the heavier side of scale but it's the weight that stops me from looking too thin Hmm

ChristmasSeacow · 02/02/2017 22:39

Great news Snuggly ! It must be a load off your mind for now.

I don't have many pics from my first pregnancy (two I think) so I might try and take a few more this time as I AM NOT DOING THIS AGAIN! Grin. You will definitely fit in the viewfinder if you stand far away enough. How long is your garden? Wink

Need I never have chips at home. I just associate them with going out! Dinner was delicious, with lashings of sour cream. I am full of beans now - literally.

Girlie it was me who asked. I wasn't sure what to expect - I guess £30 isn't as bad as my imagination ran to but I am sure you could do without the extra cost! Good job you love 'em.

Sorry to those finding life tricky with sad work and family changes Flowers

Cagliostro · 03/02/2017 02:00

I made an awesome lentil stew tonight (at like 10pm. Not sure why, just had a hankering) - feels nice to do that, I used to love cooking but I find it such a struggle now. But I must focus on my achievements rather than what I can't do! :)

Spendy day as I felt so utterly sick and tired that we didn't make it to the library (it's slightly out of the way and just felt like a mountain to climb today on top of all the other walking) - we stayed in the main bit of town instead and I had to keep stopping at benches to rest. Caglets had their pocket money as well (now doing £5 a month instead of £1 a week) so of course they wanted to browse, and we chilled with another home ed family who'd come with us after gym class. So food spends although I brought a fair bit of it from home. I also found Junior Monopoly for £2 in a charity shop, and a flags of the world thing I've been wanting for ages for 75p! And a pair of harem pants leggingy things for DD for £1.50. Soooo cute. Doing well with my new year's resolution of checking charity shops for clothes as and when rather than saving it all up for a massive bank-breaking wardrobe update twice a year. Not least since DS is being given yet more hand me downs soon from a couple of his friends (they're all 9, he's 7) - so I only really need to worry about clothes for DD. Oh speaking of which I got her two more sets of the crop tops, £9.

Friend invited us to soft play tomorrow for a group meet (her boy is new out of school, struggling massively with his confidence so going for low key, no pressure meets for a bit), they do a lunch deal and of course bus fare already covered. So we're going once their work is done in the morning and then more project work in the afternoon I reckon. Vikings are in vogue right now chez Cag. Want to pick up those over door storage thingies in Wilko on the way home too and start sorting out the larder type foods in the kitchen and home ed boxed stuff in the living room.

I've booked onto another home ed trip to a sealife centre - £18 where it would've cost £31 minimum normally, and it includes tour/demos etc. It's during DH's week off so we will probably all go down to Brighton together for the day but I'll send him in with the Caglets while I chill with cake a book or something. Or maybe I'll stay home. I don't recall many places to sit in the sealife centre! Last time we went to the aquarium, crikey, DD's 2nd birthday in 2009, I was 7 months pregnant with DS and it was practically a heatwave. Fun times walking back up the hill to the station. Hmm So DS has never been! And DD's been wanting to go back for ages. Pleased with that price.

Thanks for the feedback re: the council. It really got to me - possibly because I was already feeling spectacularly shit physically at that point, but anyway it's really good to know I'm right to be upset/confused by how she spoke to me.

Oh I also managed to get the bank stuff done. Ordered a new card (mine is split!) and cancelled my packaged account thingy, easy - was only in the branch 15 mins. He printed out my DDs/SOs for me too and it was nice to see how they've reduced. I did get a voicemail later though from the guy's colleague saying to phone him to 'chat' about a few things... anyone placing any bets on what service they're gonna try and sell me? Hmm :o

Trying no I'm just clerical

Oh snuggly you need one!

Well done mammy!

Aiming for another nsd today. Ds was in bed with us last night and the cat kept trying to play Hmm

ItalianWiking84 · 03/02/2017 07:12

Spend the last couple of days is 7£ baker, 25 on shoes and sandals for dd, both with 65% discount so really good brands for little money.
Dh is going to Metallica concert next week so 15£ on hotel room(thank god for staff discounts) and then on top will come transport and drinking... my pil is also coming next week Wednesday to Sunday, they misses the dds Smile
Now we have a read trough Smile

SnugglySnerd · 03/02/2017 07:13

Seacow Grin

I've had another bad night's sleep.

Today should be NSD. I still have stacks of baby washing to do as well as our normal washing. The drier has been on a lot this week, dreading the electric bill! Should only be a few more weeks until washing can dry outside though.

lifelongfrugaleer · 03/02/2017 07:28

Toast. I'm the arse at the till who breaks their shipping into batches of £10 to maximise the offer. Made about £40 in points last time.

Nsd planned. Got pizza last night £16. £3 beavers and £15 cleaner today.
Keeping DC off school as they are both fighting this cold bug and are shattered.

lifelongfrugaleer · 03/02/2017 07:28

Good news on the scan snuggly.

CathodeRayTube · 03/02/2017 07:41

Seacow that's really interesting that you can bounce back. I need to learn the mechanisms to allow my body to do that. Maybe the repetitive hobby thing is a thing that could help me. I always think back to the Shelock Holmes books and think about how he distracted himself with concerts even during the more intense periods of work.

Sorry to hear about your poorly patients Girlie.

Wreck I didn't know there was such a thing as an EOL or palliative care list. I wish I knew more about how it all works. My new GPs surgery organises talks for the patients and I've asked if they'd do one on caring for elderly relatives at a distance, so maybe I'll learn more about it from that.

need We have sausage and chip a lot. Smile If you want it to seem posh you can buy posh sausage and oven chips as we do, but it's still fab.

You're ahead of me need on the cucumbers. I've never grown them. Let us know how it goes. It's always good to hear from real experience on the ground. The climate is so variable too, that even the professionals have to wing it a bit.

I was thinking need rather than me running muddily to the bottom of the garden, and you reading a boring article in New Scientist, maybe you could tell me one real source of joy that came to you on your run today and I could tell you something that really pleased me from my newspaper. We could call it FrugalJoys or similar. Then we could all learn sources of happiness from each other. Smile

I realised btw that I sprint to school and back every lunchtime with ds on his bike, so I'm not totally stationary at least.

Oh gosh Wreck sorry about your Mum. Well done for sorting it. What did you do?

Great news on the babies Snuggly. Fantastic work there.

Well done on the chat and headache fix been.

Girlie Does EOL mean that the person has a terminal illness and nothing can be done? I always get puzzled with very elderly frail people because some may be close the end of their life, but some keep going forever it seems. It's hard to know which are which sometimes.

Good work on nodding off Em! Triumphant! Smile

Trying Good to know that you are a runner too. I heard people before say that long distance cycling is like that. A friend once said that getting a girlfriend is hard for a long distance cycler as she has to be able to do it too. He said if she couldn't, he'd have to give up the bike and the endorphin withdrawal would be too hard. He was considering a tandem Smile. Life is so weird.

Sorry to hear about that little boy Cag who's just come out of school. The school system is ridiculously high pressure here. I could scream aloud about it, I honestly could.

I'm still sitting in bed munching the potatoes. This bug is a long boring one, but I asked on Health and many many people said there's a howler of a bug going round, so it must just be that.

The lovely Tesco delivery man comes today. What splendid people they are.

Taytocrisps · 03/02/2017 07:48

em is pregnant!!!!! Oh em I am so, so happy to hear this news. I'm keeping everything crossed that you have a healthy and safe pregnancy and a beautiful bundle of joy at the end of it all. When are you due?

CathodeRayTube · 03/02/2017 07:50

Em How did the GP know you were 5 weeks pregnant if you didn't know you were pregnant at all?
