brighter my mumsnet name is the giveaway & I live in that city. Is that the same city as you? Dh, his friend & ds are back from their match and in very good spirits. A few beers are going down but we have work & school tomorrow so I'm taking it quite easy. All drinks left over from Xmas so frugal!

SnugglySnerd · 08/01/2017 21:24

Em that happened to me when I did it last year. I told myself it was all the toxins being flushed out and that I would soon have amazing skin. I can't remember whether I was right, have had permanent spots since being pregnant.

We are going to have to move to a bigger house in the next couple of years. That's giving me an incentive to save as much as possible. Do you think it's better to put it in an ISA or make overpayments on current mortgage? I worry that if house prices crash or something we might end up losing money on our house.

Fluffycloudland77 · 08/01/2017 21:32

Have you done the mse mortgage overpayment calculator?.

They've been predicting a house price crash since 2008. The houses on my road have gone up £30k in three years. We're in an ex mining town with not much going on frankly.

PixieMiss · 08/01/2017 21:44

Good luck with saving Stumbly we are hoping to save £1k a month almost ourselves.

NZ sounds amazing!! Anyone else going away this year?

My team lost 2-0 today northender but I hope you are a "giant killer" in your replay Smile

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 08/01/2017 21:44

My Morrisons shopping had arrived seem to have got loads for £48!

Meal plan;
Mon - jacket spuds with salad
Tues - sausage roast
Wed - something from the freezer (fishfingers etc)
Thus - spag bol, garlic bread
Fri - spag bol, garlic bread Grin

Lunches are all going to super healthy wraps, salads or humous and dips.

ChristmasSeacow · 08/01/2017 22:23

Gosh, I've not had time to post for the last couple of days... have just about managed to keep up but this thread moves fast!

First, welcome to the new people. This is a lovely thread.

Girlie it's good to know someone 'gets' DS's sensory problems. It's such a pain but not his fault, same with your DD. I usually take clean clothes but on Friday it was so cold I knew I wouldn't change him outside anyway so I didn't bother. My main worry is how this will be managed at school - he will
Just take his clothes off if he gets wet and will be very anxious indeed. Will make sure it is covered in his EHCP.

Snuggly logically I would think that it is best to overpay the mortgage. Whether your house loses value from here or not you will still have more equity if you have paid a bit down - your cash will be the gap between your house value (out of your control) and your remaining mortgage (which you can reduce or not). It only makes sense to do otherwise if you either need easier access to your savings or if you can get higher interest on a saving product than you are paying on your mortgage. Not usually the case but depends what is available when you take out the product.

Northender I thought I recognised your football scenario as my dad is a die-hard fan of a team that had a surprising draw today against a much stronger team from far north (his team is from his childhood home town, hence the passion!). However, I am confused by the reference to your user name now... so not sure!

I am afraid I can't remember all the posts I have read, as things are moving so fast! I am a bit envious of you exercisers Need and Girlie because I haven't found anything I enjoy, ever. I'd love it if I actually felt enthused by any exercise /sport but I. Just. Don't.

NSD yesterday - spent the day at home trying to sort out some junk for selling or donating. We need to clear stuff out to make room for the baby. On Friday I spent quite a lot (over £200) on a proper filing cabinet, hanging files and a few bits for DS. Also a rotating cake stand for myself (using an Xmas amazon voucher) as I decorate more cakes nowadays with kids about and I always wish I had one to make the job easier. There were also karaoke and dinner spends, less said the better.

Oops, and yesterday wasn't an NSD. Ocado, c £90. Really must start bringing that down.

Today WAS an NSD. We took DS to a train club aimed at kids with ASD. They had some Hornsby sets all set up and going, and lots of toy track of various sorts for the kids to play with. It was completely free and DS even had a couple of Cadbury fingers out of it, to his great delight. It's monthly so I expect we will go whenever we are free.

This afternoon I dug out the box with my maternity clothes in. I don't fit into anything except leggings now so getting desperate! With all of that lying around in various states of laundering, plus a major decluttering job started but nowhere near finished, we are currently living in a bomb site! I expect it will really get me down soon if I don't tame it all. That's my task this week.

In the meantime I feel soooooo fat. I look massive but not pregnant yet. I hate this stage Sad.

northender · 08/01/2017 22:36

Haha seacow, dh is indeed from the same city as your dad and he was at the game today. My team (MN nickname related) played yesterday and that's where we live now. Ds is somewhat confused and supports both teams (quite a burden as neither team has had much success of late!) Did that make sense? I don't like being so cloak & dagger but have never name changed on MN & try not to say too much directly.

northender · 08/01/2017 22:49

Seacow dd also has sensory issues so I get it too. She is the same age as Girlie's dd and sounds quite similar. Wet clothes not an issue for her but anything with glitter/sequins etc would drive her mad. She is also v sensitive to smells and sound. I have found it easier to deal with since reading more about it and she actually has pretty good insight too which does help.

ChristmasSeacow · 08/01/2017 23:51

Ha ha Northender, supporting my dad's team is indeed a labour of love! My dad still tries to go to games but he's just recovering from cancer treatment (and lives in East of England with crap travel connections) so probably wouldn't have made it to this one - he's away on hols anyway as it happens. But I still got a jubilant text. Apparently I was taken on a pilgrimage to the hallowed turf when I was about 4 months old but the brainwashing didn't work... Still, I have to maintain a polite interest to stay in the will (my dad's words!)

I had forgotten about the blardy tube strike tomorrow. I am going on a special 'date' with DS to the cinema to see a quintuple bill of DS's favourite cartoon on the big screen. I can imagine how jealous you all are.... Wink. DS has never been to the cinema so the plan was to take the tube (exciting), go to the show (favourite programme which would help to assure a good response to new cinema environment; also no loud bangs or overly thrillsy bits) and then go for pizza lunch (favourite food). We'll have to drive now, with a bit more of a walk. I really hope DS enjoys it and doesn't freak out. It could go either way... and if he freaks out I can't carry him far these days! I am feeling brave though. Eek.

Am also a bit anxious as waiting to hear what my tax bill is, due end of the month. . Had an email from my accountant today which suggests it could be more than I was expecting so I am a bit worried about cash flow. Gulp,

ChristmasSeacow · 08/01/2017 23:59

Oh and North thanks for the comments on sensory difficulties. I am glad it is getting easier with your DD with time. I hope it will get a bit easier with DS too as he gets older though I worry he will just find new things to be sensitive too Wet is a problem but so is dirt, when not in a familiar context e.g. SAnd at the beach. He picked up a felt tip yesterday for the first time in months (not v interested in drawing) but freaked out when he got a teeny felt tip mark on his hand. And that was the end of that!

AuditAngel · 09/01/2017 00:30

Hi all. I realise that I forgot to record DS's police cadets Subs £1 on Thursday and his £1 treat money on Friday.

Today was a good day. £36 on petrol which I can reclaim from work, but I received £50 from mum (she has given me this each week since she has lived with us) and £62 back for panto me tickets I paid for in early December

8FencingWire · 09/01/2017 06:44

Hello all,
Thanks for the kind words. One step at the time :)
Welcome newbies!
I've restarted running too, love it again! I hardly run for the past 6 months, but I seem to have found my feet.
Menu planned for this week just now.
I spent £20 yesterday on some new pots for my flowers, WD40 for the front door and bikes.
Saturday was spendier, £140 on a 'new' bike, it came with everything including panniers, locks, lights, the lot. Very pleased with that.
I'm going to try and not spend more than £50 in February. Partially to overpay the mortgage, but also I need a freezer and cupboard 'clearout'.
I'm going to have a close look at the bills again and see what I can save there.
I've got clothes now for this year, I bought 3 tops and a dress. I've got shoes. Should be ok.
Onwards and upwards!

lifelongfrugaleer · 09/01/2017 06:55

Mortgage guys , was it snuggly? Have you considered an offset mortgage? We have three savings accounts linked to ours that don't earn interest but we don't pay interest on that chunk of the mortgage. Couple with a fixed over payment we have knocked years off ours.
Some banks do current account ones too.
Interest rate is slightly higher so research your situation but it's great for us.
Nsd planned today

Brightermornings · 09/01/2017 07:12

Yes north I do live in the same city!! It's Monday 😩 today's spends should be about £2.50. I usually buy my lunch at work today around £1.70 for a decent size hot meal. I do 2 fitness classes tonight so I have a big lunch then something on toast when I get in.

WreckTangled · 09/01/2017 08:10

Should be nsd today. I've got someone coming out the check the energy efficiency of the house or something. It's so dark this morning pretty sure I should still be in bed.

ememem84 · 09/01/2017 08:20

Should be nsd. I'm staying home today. Feeling thoroughly yuk. Nurse catface is here not actually nursing just looking at me like I should be out of bed

May work from home later if the snot allows it. For now though it's back to bed.

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/01/2017 08:29

It sounds bad em. Our cat does the "are you still here?" & the "why don't you two just go out?" Look when we're getting on his nerves.

Hopefully a NSD today.

ememem84 · 09/01/2017 09:23

She's sat under the bed fluffy every now and then she pokes her head out and meows as if to say "still here???"

I've told her she can sit on bed too. But nope. She wants it all to herself.

FridaFrugal · 09/01/2017 09:36

Hi everyone. I've lurked on mumsnet for ages but have finally signed up and got myself a user name so that I can join these chats.
Looking forward to reading all about your frugal tips. I am determined to change my attitude to money this year.

Cagliostro · 09/01/2017 10:04

Awesome morning here... the bed is broken! It was a cheap ikea thing and we've had it over 10 years. But aaaargh. Mattress on the floor it is then!

And I don't think I'm well enough to go to my appt at the CAB, am full of cold which on top of the fibromyalgia etc means dizzy, achy and basically useless. I might see if they can help over the phone.

ememem84 · 09/01/2017 10:11

Oh cag BrewSadFlowersCake

Taytocrisps · 09/01/2017 10:36

Oh Cag what a rubbish start to your New Year Sad. Ring them and explain that you have to cancel due to ill health and can you speak to someone over the phone instead. If they don't agree to this, ask for another appointment date as early as possible.

Incidentally, I had to google CAB as CAB here is an acronym for Criminal Assets Bureau. Here we have Citizens Information Centres (CIC).

Welcome to all the new posters.

I've to take out money for my childminder and the balance due for DD's dance classes but otherwise it should be a LSD.

I'm trying to go walking every day (unless it's lashing raining). Heading out shortly. It's a bright morning here. I believe it's due to turn very cold later in the week with the possibility of ice/snow. Hope it's not too severe.

Cagliostro · 09/01/2017 11:04

Thanks guys Thanks

Having got up now I'm not feeling quite so crap and my sneezes have stopped. So we are going.

mammymammyIRL · 09/01/2017 11:15

stumblymonkey · 09/01/2017 11:31

Well I have paid out £160 parking fine today to get it out of the way and DP has been grocery shopping (£61). Groceries included stuff for me to make my own lunch this week instead of buying at work.

I've cancelled our Spotify sub (£10 pm) today as realised I get basically the same service from Amazon Music which I already have with my Prime subscription.

I have a counselling session tonight (£50) which I will be making my last as that's £200 pm saved.

Making small steps....
