So we pay £70 ish a month for TV, phone unlimited and high speed broadband. Because it was so much I rang them in July and got small discount off each item( was over £80pm). We didn't pay Oct (insufficient funds in account) and now owe November bill too. Tried to cancel and they have said that the contract was renewed in July so we will have to pay exit fees of £52 and £38. What can I do?

CEO email.com lists the directors email address send them a complaint and normally it gets sorted quick

Why do you have to pay two exit fees?

What you could do instead is downgrade to their very cheapest package but it might mean another new 12 month contract. Worth asking though.

smEGGnogg · 03/12/2016 18:22

Nothing I don't think. Unfortunately that's what they do when they offer the discounts and you accept them, you accept them as if it was a new contract. We've also had discounts on ours and its renewed the contract from the date we accepted.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 03/12/2016 18:24

You say you didn't pay October or November's bills - were you still using the services at that time? If so, it does seem fair that you should pay.

Also, there used to be a 12 month tie in when you signed up or agreed a new service/change. If that's still the case, I'd probably be relieved that they weren't charging me 6 months worth of fees TBH.

My sister had similar problem with Virgin Media
She spoke to them about increasing billls and they reviewed everything and reduced her monthly payment
Couple of months later she was offered a new build apartment by housing association so requested VM to provide her service at new address
They were unable to do this
They then charged her for the 10 months outstanding on her contract
She complained via email and written letter and they simply sent her a final demand for payment
She paid as she did not want it against her re credit score

Two exit fees because it was two items... phone and tv package that I got discount. I have downgraded and they offered tv package at 40% off but cant do this until we pay for Oct and Nov. They stopped the tv sky + and all features on Wednesday. I just want to pay what we owe in debt and then cancel. But like you say we have agreed a new 12 mnth contract in July. WHICH I DID NOT REALISE.. bloody hell, what a mess

Nothing to offer but I clicked on this thinking it was a baby naming thread.

Quite relieved.

Poor kid...

If you can manage to pay what you owe then call them and say you're in hardship or have financial difficulties they may be able to help you further.

Do you have any idea of the date you made the phonecall? Ask them to pull the call, they should all be recorded, and listen to it. If they didn't tell you they were starting you on a new 12 month contract then you might be able to get out of it.

Thanks Fairy. Will try that.
