I'm stretching out the shopping until some day next week.
Dd takes oatcakes every day to school as part of her lunch, last night I quizzed her on what other people take and she decided she'd like ham sandwich today. Go to make her lunch this morning and no sliced panBlush we had lots of bread products - wraps/pitta/burger buns/slimbos but only a wholemeal spelt sliced pan which I know she wouldn't eatGrin so she's having oatcakes spread with cheese triangle and ham today.

Loving the talk about libraries. We have a mobile one in the village for two hours per week but it's while dd is at school. The next one is in the town 13 miles away, they open 5.5 days but tues & thurs until 8pm so I'm going to bring the dc every second week. They can each take out up to 12 books but I haven't joined up ds and have let my own membership lapse as I can use dd's if I wish. It is the main county library so is in no danger of closing down. The recipe book is a great idea, what I do is download a sample to kindle and then decide if it's one I want. Going to put in requests for a few recipe books for Christmas this year. Happy Pear, Little Green Spoon, Roz Purcell to name a few. All Irish authors.

agenie if it doesn't out you I'd love to see a pic of that library in a phone box that sounds fabulous.

We recently put up a new postbox which is like the old style An Post ones in Ireland see pic! The postman isn't using it Grin

Would afterschools work for you girlie what time do you have to go in the morning? There are breakfast clubs and afterschool clubs in my village, far cheaper than childcare, but they don't start early enough for me going to work. I foresee us needing an au pair/childcare until dd starts secondary school in 7 years. Then ds could go to afterschools and she would be there in the morning and able to call him to get up, at 13 years I think this would be ok

TheDuchessOfKidderminster · 09/09/2016 09:13

We have a proper library in the village. I've started taking DS1 every week to choose a book (he has plenty of his own but he enjoys going) and I've just returned an Anne Tyler book that I wanted to read (first time in ages I've borrowed a novel) and renewed a cook book (Top Bananas - we tried a lot of recipes from that, so may have to buy a copy for myself) and a book about babies that I didn't get chance to look at first time round. I was also pleased to find they have Athens so I can still access journal articles now that I don't have a uni account. Just have to be careful not to run up any fines...

AdoraBell · 09/09/2016 10:36

£5.98 yesterday on dental floss. Both DH and I forgot to pack it for our holiday and forgot to buy some once we were away. So I've put one in each wash bag.

Sierra259 · 09/09/2016 11:18

Should be LSD today, just need bread which I forgot to buy yesterday!

AGenie · 09/09/2016 11:28

Lilac This is the phone box library. I think it's very neat, and I love that it requires no staff.

Love the phone box library Smile

AGenie · 09/09/2016 13:21

Lilac The phone box library is in Cambridgeshire which is the driest part of the country. We're technically classed as arid. I'm not sure, but I think it's possible that it just never humid enough in the box to cause trouble.

lilacclery · 09/09/2016 13:48

agenie that makes sense. I live in Ireland which is the dampest place ever!

Home early from work as had to pick Ds up from pre school as he has a fever.

Keep thinking of things I've forgotten in the food shopping which is coming later!

lilacclery · 09/09/2016 13:49

Posted on an irish forum but wondered opinions here
^No Sky or Saorview Dreambox?Chromecast? Now TV?
Does anyone not have a paid tv subscription like sky and use one of the alternatives like Netflix instead.

I only watch Emmerdale currently on player but hope to start watching some boxsets or movies this winter. Dh watches shows like Great British Bake Off, Ice Road Truckers , Come Dine with Me but not much either

The kids watch cartoons and movies and aupair also likes to watch movies.

Our tv is not a smart tv so would need a casting device

Question is, is it a big adjustment ? Will we feel like we're missing out?^

OP posts:
WreckTangled · 09/09/2016 13:58

Lilac can you get now tv? Once our sky is up I will probably get now tv as its on a monthly rolling contract and you can choose films and/or tv channels which you get through sky usually.

Cagliostro · 09/09/2016 14:58

Just popping on to say the class was a success! :) More signed up for next week too! :)

lilacclery · 09/09/2016 15:04

I'm not sure it's for sale in currys in Ireland though so I would think it is possible.

A guy I know installs sky so I must check with him

Brilliant news cag

ItalianWiking84 · 09/09/2016 16:40

Great news cag
Hope your ds gets better soon wreck
My parents are coming for dinner tomorrow and have requested indo food so 30£ in Asian supermarket.

CremeEggThief · 09/09/2016 17:24

I cancelled Sky a few months ago and apart from not being able to pause and record the very odd programme, we haven't missed it. Anything we watch is something we really want to watch, if there's only one or two chances to catch it. I like the simplicity of it. It kind of links to the real books versus Kindle we were discussing yesterday, doesn't it?

Cag, that's great Smile.

Spends: £10.40 travel (ouch!), £2.20 on a slice of homemade (by a deli!) vegetable pizza for a quick lunch on the run and £7.30 on a latte, brownie, San Pellegrino and rocky road cake in a café for DS and I, after school.

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/09/2016 17:32

Well done Cag, I hope it's boosted your confidence.

£6ish today On groceries.

We watch everything on catch up or 123.movies.

My hairdresser has a chipped Firestick for movies. I don't actually know what a Firestick is. It sounds impressive though.

There's an interesting hack to get Amazon prime half price, you sign up to an e learning course for £10 or some are free & bingo your a student so you can buy an nus card for £12 and get prime at student rates.

Ememem84 · 09/09/2016 17:35

genie love that library!!!!

collie yay! An Autumn fan! This year I'm going tan boots. And thick socks. And skinnies/short skirts. And hats. I want a fedora. There was a sweeeeeet one in m&s yesterday. Like a burnt orange felt/wool. It was lush. But I don't need it.

This is today's look. Well part of it. Best yellow scarf ever!

Priced up cat things today (took a walk at lunchtime to the pet shop - I can get everything I need here now for approx £30. But if I wait and get it off amazon I can do it for £12) I'll obviously wait to buy anything until I've made a catcision. No wonder people aren't shopping locally...

£3.45 on peri-peri chicken and cheese toasted wrap and a Fanta for lunch. Totally forgot to make lunch today -frugal fail. But had fruit in my desk fruit bowl so had that as a snack.

Aw thanks :o not really my news to boast about share as it was DH running the thing. Super proud of him. :) :)

WreckTangled · 09/09/2016 18:17

I made the jack Monroe ham, pea and mint casserole for dinner. It was really nice and v frugal.

AdoraBell · 09/09/2016 18:18

NSD

WreckTangled · 09/09/2016 18:28

8 have a look at the CFT website they've just released their winter shows. Looks AMAZING!! So much I want to see but can't afford it!

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 09/09/2016 19:00

Lila the issue with the ASC would be that I don't work set days but I am considering talking to work to see if they might consider me having a regular day off. At the moment I seem to be working mostly 9-5 but sometimes get asked to work 8-4. Early starts would be an issue as breakfast club doesn't start early enough. Being a working parent is such fun Hmm

We don't pay for anything extra TV wise, not even netflix!! I don't watch a lot of telly really and if there is nothing on we tend to stick a dvd on.

Em and Collie I love Autumn, its actually my favourite time of year Smile I love the colours, the cooler air, the conkers, getting my boots out, halloween - all of it!

Hope your ds is o.kay Wreck

Well done Cags dh Star

Spends today £1.35 on water bottles and 65p on sweets for dd so a LSD.
