Is the recorder individual lessons then? As it's reasonable for the other instruments (I do £10 for a half hour private lesson for piano and that's cheapish as I'm not qualified). But recorder, that's more the sort of thing you do in a group really. I think in DD's school club there were 8 kids. I think of it as an intro to ensemble playing, rather than a solo instrument.

Sorry about the headache Snuggly have you had your blood pressure checked? May be a bit high?

ItalianWiking84 · 08/09/2016 19:09

Sounds like I'ved hooked some on smafolk hi hi... It is also amazing clothes, great quality and the prints are gorgeous...

Ememem84 · 08/09/2016 19:14

I love our library. In the winter I go in there to read at lunchtime.

WreckTangled · 08/09/2016 19:18

I think I'll check re the recorder lessons before I say no for sure. It does seem a lot.

Snuggly I get awful headaches and migraines when pregnant. Always hormonal for me.

Ds has a temperature. Two days back at pre school...hopefully he'll be ok in the morning.

Unescorted · 08/09/2016 19:27

Hi newpeople and Laska

I use 2 libraries - The big one in Manchester and our village one. Because they are different local authorities it means that I can get twice as many books. There is currently a pile of about 30 under my desk. Mainly cookbooks, sewing books and gardening books. The Village library is only small but I take books out ( I don't always read them) so it looks busy & therefore more likely to stay open.

I had a happy moment today - it was the simple pleasure of my pack up fitting perfectly into my lunch box.

Sierra259 · 08/09/2016 20:29

We're very lucky with our libraries here. Our local one is open 4 days a week 9-5 and 1 day 9-7. I read something once that said the best way to support your local library is to pick up a couple if extra books to check out, even if you don't read them. Apparently the powers that be look at lending activity as part of the decision making process around funding.

Sorry, can't remember who mentioned it without scrolling back, but I also wouldn't ever download a cookery or reference book etc. Much prefer a hard copy for those!

ItalianWiking84 · 08/09/2016 20:30

Our library is luckily quite big and open all days except Sunday. They do different events during the year as well... I also buy loads of books, used to work in a book store so I'm a bit nerdy about books... And I can still get 33% discount trough my friend Grin

Tryingtosaveup · 08/09/2016 20:31

I cannot believe it's £15 for half hour recorder lesson unless it is individual, and even then it is a lot for schools to charge. Wreck, you're not in a pupil premium area are you? Because then you could ask for the money to be used for the recorder.
I use our local library all the time. When I moved I gave shed loads of books away to the British heart foundation and I have little extra room now. I still have 3 big bookcases full though. I love the library and think, if I use it it may stay open
LSD just £1 on cup of tea in community centre (again use it or lose it).

WreckTangled · 08/09/2016 20:39

Trying I've never heard of that so I would be surprised if we are we live in a very affluent area, I really should move to somewhere where we are more suited GrinGrinI'm going to ask in the office tomorrow afternoon about it.

Cagliostro · 08/09/2016 21:08

Yes you are spot on about the borrowing extra books thing. Where I worked it was made clear to us that issues are one of the two most important things (the other was how many enquiries we took). I always took lots of books - for example if we did a topic on Victorians I would borrow heaps of books on the subject, and borrow them briefly while deciding which we wanted to keep out longer and which could be returned straight away. If I reserved an item (frequently as it was free for staff) and I turned out not to need it, I'd issue and return it before sending it back. :o Obviously I don't really do this now. I'm still borrowing loads of books but I can't get there as much now and I have to be more careful since I now have a bog standard adult ticket rather than the staff perks ticket.

I actually think the focus on the real purpose of libraries - books and helping people - is what's helped our county libraries keep open and well funded. My mum's county has had a totally different approach, focusing mostly on money, and it's all gone tits up frankly.

needastrongone · 08/09/2016 21:26

£5 on Boxercise tonight. I ache. I will ache more tomorrow. I ran 7.5 miles Wednesday. I WILL get fit again. Smile

Ememem84 · 08/09/2016 21:42

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 08/09/2016 21:55

Hi all, just catching up.

Wreck thats ridiculous how on Earth can the recorder be £15 a lesson?? Confused

Talking of clubs today has been spendy as it was pay the clubs day! £66.50 for a terms swimming lessons, dd can swim perfectly well but am loathed to stop the lessons as I think its good exercise for her!

Also dd has decided she wants to do this drama club at school which has come in at £51 Shock that includes a tenner for a t.shirt and £15 towards a trip to Cardiff, the rest is the cost of the club. (I have managed to pay for this from money I made from selling furniture!)

Have done an online Morrisons shop for £44.

My account looks so depressing at the moment, baring in mind we are a week into the month Sad all of my wages have gone Shock will have my tax credits to live on from next week but I really need to get a bit of a grip.

Things that have tipped me over this month are NMC fees £120, buying stuff for the house and garden £150, frittering £100, food and clubs coming in at something I'm embarrassed to write down! ,sigh> Sad

Oh well, will get back on track again.......

lifelongfrugaleer · 08/09/2016 22:00

Spendy day. £9 verucca stuff. £30 sainsburys

Hope the cat looking goes well em. I'm allergic unfortunately. And you got lots of work done this afternoon.
Cag, how exciting for dh class.
I thought the music class fees was a typo.
I must get to our library again. The little one in the village has random opening hours that I can never remember and is run by volunteers. The big one in town is lovely but the building in under threat as it's expensive to maintain so they want to move it into the back of the leisure centre.
Nice clothes and pram Italian
Sorry you are not feeling well snuggly.
Second day ache is the worst need. I did half a body attack class today and was blowing out my arse frankly

Sorry if I've missed anything work days are really hard to keep up with.

Having a mare with dd (8 3/4) over ballet. She doesn't want to go back cos it's hard and the go over things allot and it's boring. She had an exam in November and I don't know whether to just let her stop this upset has being going on a few weeks or force her to do the exam and see. She was quite upset tonight. Argh.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 08/09/2016 22:13

Lila re the cm I don't think its that, dd is used to being in childcare of one description or another, she does exaggerate at times but I don't know this time I really believed her. She was upset for the child that was told off, I shout at times but don't think the cm should be shouting at a 3yo for not tidying a puzzle away!!

Talked to my mum about it tonight and she thinks it sounds awful and agreed with me that I need to sort something else out. Will mention to the cm tomorrow that dd had been upset just to see what she says! Will also start investigating the after school club.......

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 08/09/2016 22:15

Sorry for multiple posts Blush

Life with dd I always made her see through a term I had paid for but if she was still adamant she didn't want to do it I would let it go.

AGenie · 09/09/2016 05:44

Collie A lot of people stuggle with the modern LED backlit screens but find older CCFL screens okay. I'm the same and I just buy computer screens off ebay these days. Would that help you? I also love reading on paper though. I don't read novels but I really enjoy reading the newspaper.

It's a real eye opener to me to discover that you are all reading novels so much. I have never really done as I had wonky eyes until I was 28. I've been wondering what I was meant to be doing for relaxation as I'm constantly stressed and hyper. Maybe I was meant to be reading novels all along. I must think about that.

One of the villages near us has a library in a phone box, which I think is a wonderful idea.

Sorry to hear about the bad head snuggly. Take it easy there.

Cag That's great to know that taking more books helps the library. We are allowed 12 each and we always take 24 picture books every week. I feel good about that now. We went to the Big Read prize giving on Wednesday and the place was full of children, it was great.

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/09/2016 06:44

Free milk, plus pick your own freebie on checkout smart.

We both have checkoutsmart accounts so I'm going to buy two of each.

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/09/2016 06:46

Forgot the photo. Milk is 2 or 4 pint.

Milk freezes well.

WreckTangled · 09/09/2016 07:10

Food shopping being delivered later. I can't go to lidl this weekend as there is a big event on and it's not worth battling the traffic. So other than the food it will be a nsd which means I've gone four days without any minor spends.

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/09/2016 08:21

Checkoutsmart offers been pulled. It's gone off the app. Angry

roxannie · 09/09/2016 08:23

Wow this thread's busy!
lifelong we had to try lots of different clubs before DC found their thing. DS hated football and scouts but loves climbing and army cadets. DD tried gymnastics and cheerleading but has stuck with dancing (she goes more for social reasons though Grin).
what mine did recorders free in year 2.
girlie min loved breakfast/after school club, lots of kids their age to play with and leaders were a good laugh.

Need to get to work now. Should be NSD.
