Ooooohh em that's exciting! Though I'm surprised all our vet's bills haven't put you off! Grin

Cagliostro · 07/09/2016 19:21

Aaaaargh is everyone getting cats but me?! I want a furbaby :( DH hates cats, the git.

Thanks for the kind words re: DH's club! I think it will go pretty well but trying and failing not to get too excited until it's actually happened. He is still really nervous. But I know a fair few of the families coming, so hopefully they'll be understanding.

Under £140 spent on resources for it; that should be plenty to keep us going (it's for a few different sports) until after Christmas. It's a lot, but DH should get around £30-45 per class, and there should end up being two classes per week while the weather holds. So won't take long to make that money back and start profiting. Happy with it regardless, our own DCs will really benefit from it too, socially and physically. Actually that's the reason we decided to run it - when we had our home ed 'inspection' from the LEA, she asked "What do you miss about school?" and literally the only thing DD could think of was an after school club that the school ran once a week where they'd do ball skills etc. So we were like, fair enough, we'll run our own. :o

SnugglySnerd · 07/09/2016 19:40

That's exciting, Em! Ours is costing us a fortune at the moment but he's sitting on my lap purring which makes it all seem worth while! Nothing like stroking a pet to help relax/destress. He's really funny too when we're not clearing up cat sick or forking out hundreds of pounds at the vet

WreckTangled · 07/09/2016 19:54

Creme that sounds delicious!

Cag that's amazing news!

I have a school moan but don't want to start a thread so hope you don't mind...

Dd's a really good reader, always has been and I've always felt that she's not been 'pushed' which is fine. Anyway she's come home today saying the TA has told her not to read he whole book (there was a note in her diary saying the same yesterday but I let her anyway 32 pages took her about ten mins then we discussed it after) and that her teacher had said just to read one chapter (5 pages!) as year one was about reading but year two is more about talking about the book. Dd is upset and I'm a bit annoyed. She feels like she's being told off for reading which I've always encouraged. She's a book worm and I'm not going to discourage it Angry

ItalianWiking84 · 07/09/2016 20:09

Wllcome newbies Flowers
Nsd today
Hope everything goes well with the house collie... Very exciting

honeysucklejasmine · 07/09/2016 20:16

Stuck to my spend plan today - £1.50 for baby group. £2.85 postage for nappies I sold.

Have also done online shop. I managed to get all 7 dinners for £18.53 but by the time I added lunch and breakfast, formula milk, household bits and pieces... £48. I will be so glad when dd can drink cows milk. At least now she is weaning she is drinking slightly less.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 07/09/2016 20:21

Wreck that sounds totally ridiculous, i would go in and ask for an explanation from the teacher, have you got books at home that she can read instead of the school ones iyswim? Dd doesn't read school books any more just her own ones.

Cag the club sounds amazing, wish we lived closer to you so dd could go!

Yes Em am amazed we haven't put you off with all our cat woes Grin my advice is get insurance!!!

Dd went back to swimming lessons tonight, still need to pay them! Was such a rush from finishing work at 5.15ish, getting pick her up from the cm, nipping home to get changed and then getting to swimming for 6pm! We made it though - just Grin

Not totally sure about the new cm, dd said she is a bit shouty Sad its such a shame as her previous cm was lovely but the school was rubbish. Now we have the opposite problem!!

allthebestplease · 07/09/2016 20:22

Lots to catch up on, but we are still budgeting, should be easier now that school's started.

WreckTangled · 07/09/2016 20:23

Girlie that's a shame, was she recommended or did you just find her through searching? Dd does read her own books on top of the school books. The ones she reads at home are miles ahead than the ones at school but that's fine I understand if she has to complete the stages I just don't get why they're trying to slow her down.

ItalianWiking84 · 07/09/2016 20:35

Got my pram and dh has esampled it, I sooooo love it... And dd loved it gymnastic, so think it's money well spend.
Ouch to all the vet bills, our furry friends can defn be expensive...

It looks really smart. I like seeing proper prams.

WreckTangled · 07/09/2016 20:58

Love the pram Smile

Ememem84 · 07/09/2016 21:18

To answer your questions:

Dh is not totally on board. He doesn't exactly like cats. My mum had card and they always made a beeline for him hopped in his lap and kneaded his balls through his trousers.

He said when the bathroom was finished I could get a cat maybe this is why it's taken so bloody long

He hates the idea of an indoor cat (we have no outside access). He thinks it's cruel. This rescue in going to see was abandoned about 18 months ago. She's roughly 2. She's a bit shy but apparently fine after a while. She (according to rescue lady) will be fine indoors for a few months to get to know us. Then, when we move to a new place with a garden she can go outside. So only temporarily an indoor cat.
He's said it'll be absolutely my responsibility. He will not do anything for it. I imagine he'll be best friends with it after a while.

I will get insurance. Smile

I miss having cats. Mum had 3 while I was growing up. They were the absolute best.

Ememem84 · 07/09/2016 21:18

*cats. Mum had cats

Cagliostro · 07/09/2016 21:19

Oooh that's annoying Girlie :(

Wreck hmmm that's really annoying too, about the reading. I always feel I shouldn't weigh in on school issues now Blush but it just seems totally backwards. She is reading well, presumably she is understanding it if you are talking about it.

I don't have experience of this with the Caglets (they were average or lower for most subjects when they were in school) but I was reading fluently at age 3. It was never a problem AT ALL. Nobody told mum oh you shouldn't have taught her, she'll be bored etc like I see nowadays. I was just able to sit at the back with my own books (actually the teacher used to bring in her DD's books for me!) during reading lessons, and I read at my own level always, being given extension work etc. I was never told to slow down or stop, quite the opposite. What would the former have done to my love of reading I wonder. Hmm :(

Small frugal win, DD was taken aside at Brownies and given some spare uniform by Brown Owl. Slightly concerned we were singled out for that (is it THAT obvious we don't have money :o Blush) but grateful nonetheless of course!

WreckTangled · 07/09/2016 21:25

Haha em he will love it if you get one!

Cag these are my thoughts exactly. I wouldn't mind so much if they took a minute to write me a quick note to explain what they're doing and why. Oh well she can just keep reading her books at home and I'll just get her to read one school book a week if it's such an issue for them.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 07/09/2016 21:42

Wreck I would try and catch the teacher at pick up and ask for an explanation, just in a non confrontational type 'so dd tells me she isn't allowed to finish a whole book?? Is that right?' and see what they say!

The cm was one I found online, she is the only one in the village Hmm its annoying as she otherwise fits the bill totally in terms of taking dd at the times I want and being very flexible. Dd has only had 2 sessions there though so maybe its a bit early to judge, dd said she shouted at a pre schooler though Sad Angry which does not bode well.

Just found dds club letters in her bag, she wants to do a drama club which all in will be £56, it looks good though and includes a trip to Cardiff.

Tryingtosaveup · 07/09/2016 22:11

Love the pram Italian.
Wreck, I would definitely ask the teacher to explain their reasons. They probably don't want her to far ahead....but, it sounds like she is ahead.
Girlie, the CM shouting is terrible. You are not paying her to shout at your DD. perhaps she was just having a bad day and will be ok tomorrow.
Cag, brilliant news about your DH's sports class. I think at this young age general skills are so important. Hope they enjoy it.
I'm home again now after minding DGCs. Hoping for NSD tomorrow.
Snuggly, it's your birthday money and it will be so nice to go and buy yourself some new cloths after you have the new baby. You deserve it.

AGenie · 07/09/2016 22:13

Wreck I would just go in and mention to the teacher that your dd is reading way ahead of the books they're giving her. I did that with ds in reception and they were really pleased and sent home much longer books.

lilacclery · 07/09/2016 22:14

Wreck I literally ate books when I was younger I read them so fast & liked nothing better than to stay in bed on a Saturday morning & read an entire sweet valley high/babysitters club/Enid blyton bookSmile
Maybe dd could just not talk in class about being farther ahead. It's not ideal though.

Em, I now want another cat. My last cat died but was very old (18) and I still miss him. He was a real scaredy cat. A big neutered boy cat from rescue but even scared of bluebottles if they buzzed at him. I bet it will be "his" cat before long. Exciting.

Sierra259 · 07/09/2016 22:27

Lovely pram italian!

Laska5772 · 07/09/2016 23:10

So many messages on this thread ! waves at everyone who waved to me!
So glad you did it girlie Hope you and DD are enjoying the new house and garden and its all working out ok for you..

I had a fantastic evening swim earlier followed by moules and a (couple of bottles of a vino , with a couple of friends at a local eatery ..Love this late Indian summer and living near the sea.
(purrs in an annoying sort of way ) but £25 spent , was well worth it though.

Otherwise £9 on reduced meat , cottage cheese ,hummus onions etc in sainsburys .. I have to go back on post summer diet . ( too much vino ..see above ) I now have a tum again after losing it before holiday

Came back from swim/eats and checked and found I had had a frugal fantastic 'win' today off Quidco today.. We booked our Avis holiday car through them and the company have paid our £56 cash back out to us twice!! .. (I should tell them really shouldnt i? ).... I know I should ..

Ememem84 · 08/09/2016 06:38

italian beautiful pram

wrecklilac another one here who used to devour books when I was younger.

Sweet valley high!! Had forgotten about them....

Today's spends £39 on my nails at lunchtime.

It's the air display here today. Unfortunately I won't be able to see it as will be working. But most people in the office will be on a half day so I may get some work done!!

WreckTangled · 08/09/2016 06:52

I've spoken to them about it before ( she has the same teacher this year) and they've been the same the whole way through its so annoying. They say it's about comprehension etc but she has no problems with that.

Girlie I'm waiting for the clubs letter too!

I wouldn't laska....BlushGrin
