Really dull question ... what can I do for kids lunches? I want to make pack ups more attractive than bought lunches. I leave for work before they are up - I suspect they just can't be bothered to make their own (lazy bums).

WreckTangled · 11/09/2016 08:39

Ds has a packed lunch and he usually has a wrap, some cherry tomatoes, carrot sticks or mini breadsticks with humous, fruit, yoghurt and usually an oatie bar. Sometimes he will have cheese and crackers. He's only three though.

lilacclery · 11/09/2016 08:43

Unescorted fluffy is in uk its me that's not Smile
The happy pear video on mumsnet YouTube channel is inspiring
Dd who's 6 brings an apple in segments, a tub of grated cheese & 4 oatcakes sandwiched together spread with cheese triangle & ham on top, some days she also has some cashew nuts.

Last year she took grapes/strawberries ham sandwich & some cheese potions.

Cousin in law did frozen baguettes for his kids. Filled a big long baguette with a pot of sandwich filler (obviously you'd make your own), cut into 3 and wrapped in foil then frozen.

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/09/2016 08:47

Oh and Dh tried sainsburys basic custard at 20p a tin last night, he really liked it.

northender · 11/09/2016 08:48

fluffy does he have an asthma diagnosis? Does the letter say what inhaler they are changing him to? The world of inhalers has changed massively over the past few years as companies have lost their protection/copyright for their products. Where there were 2/3 main producers of inhalers, now there are more. This means that there are more versions of "combination" inhalers, of which Symbicort is one. All are slightly different and it's likely that individuals respond differently ie what is the best combi inhaler for one may not be for another. GP practices will generally choose one that is their regular choice & that may well be influenced by cost. The alternative may be worth a try but if not as effective then they should revert to Symbicort. Does that all make sense? Happy for you to PM me if you want any other info, I'm a respiratory physio and have access to lots of info if it would help.

Unescorted · 11/09/2016 08:48

Lillac it doesn't take a lot to confuse me!

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/09/2016 08:51

Not that custard is a lunch food it's just really cheap for winter steamed suet pudding which are also very cheap to make.

Home bargains does a really good range of snack sized pots etc.

Ememem84 · 11/09/2016 08:52

lilac we didn't name her the shelter did. She's named after the park she was found in. No one knows her history other than she was found in the park with a litter of kittens.

methen scarfs from oasis. They had a lovely berry red one!

The shelter said Millie couldn't meow. They were so wrong. She cried a lot last night. So sad! I sat with her for a bit (took spare duvet into the living room and ended up asleep on the couch). We talked (I talked she listened). Dh is in there with her now. He's explained morning, explained making tea. Explained tv. She's not scared of normal house noises which suggests she's been in a home before. We're just going about our day chatting to her. She's under the table still just watching and taking everything in.

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/09/2016 08:53

North & Everyone thank you. We still have a relative in hospital so I have no one to discuss it with.

WreckTangled · 11/09/2016 08:58

WreckCat has been fighting Sad

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/09/2016 09:00

Em And this is the man who "doesn't exactly like cats"

Has he referred to himself as "daddy" to her yet?

Sometimes they get dumped when they get pg. You wouldn't think in an affluent area like Jersey that spaying would be a massive problem for the average owner. She did well to survive being alone and pg/feeding hungry kittens.

lilacclery · 11/09/2016 09:09

This is dress, I'm thinking brown leggings dh thinks cream, at this time of year I think not maybe for spring/summer next year though

Thanks for linking to the article, fluffy and for explaining it, unescorted.
Your cat sounds like she's settling in, Em, it takes them a while but talking to her will help her to get used to you both.
Snugglycat had been sick all over the settee this morning Sad

Cagliostro · 11/09/2016 09:20

Ooooh lovely dress! That's the kind of thing I'd LOVE to wear but it looks rubbish on me Envy :o

Thanks for all the lovely comments about DH and his class :)

BTW yesterday I finally messaged the mum of the girl who's been picking on DD. Hadn't planned on doing it like that but she'd messaged me asking if she could go to the woods with DD (who was going with DH and a friend). I was diplomatic and not accusatory. No reply yet though. :(

Unescorted · 11/09/2016 09:24

Fluufy I am stealing that baguette idea... I hadn't thought of freezing the sandwiches. Mother Ducks Grab & Go lunches...I am liking the idea.
Wreck what do you put in the wraps? I have been quizing them both on what they want to eat .... crisps, chicken & cake apparently... I might extend the "C" theme to Cumber, custard, cheese & crackers.

WreckTangled · 11/09/2016 09:28

He has humous, cheese and ham, tuna

Ememem84 · 11/09/2016 09:39

Yep fluffy that's the same guy. No. He hasn't referred to himself as daddy....I hope he doesn't.

He's a bit sniffly this morning. I am hoping it's just a cold..... Or just gettin used to catface.

Unescorted · 11/09/2016 09:44

Em I can see you calling the cat Kitty McCatface before long.
Thanks Wreck

SnugglySnerd · 11/09/2016 10:04

I love that dress, lilac, def go with brown leggings for autumn.
I have reached a clothing crisis point, most of my normal clothes are too small now so yesterday I got out all my maternity clothes and they are miles too big. I ordered some mat jeans and leggings from New Look yesterday (all their jeans are 25% off with the code FRAYED btw) but I don't know what to wear for work, especially as I don't really want all the kids at school guessing yet. Several staff members have already guessed! Also I am a smaller size to start off with for this pregnancy than last time so I suspect a lot of my maternity clothes will be too big even in a few months. I'm going to have to go shopping aren't I??

WreckTangled · 11/09/2016 10:11

Yes snuggly. You need a few shift dresses I think.

Collieballs · 11/09/2016 11:06

Fluffy my GP switched me from 2 seperate inhalers to a stronger 2 in 1 / combination inhaler to save me (and the NHS) money. It's actually brilliant and he made the right choice. He also prescribed me the COPD syrup to use when it gets bad. And I bought the air purifier for hayfevery days as it filters pollen and dust - which has been absolutely fantastic. I think the combination of the syrup, new inhaler and air purifier has changed my life!

An asthma nurse can prescribe inhalers too so maybe your DH can avoid the GP and just go direct to the asthma / copd clinic to discuss options (if you have one?) Our asthma nurse is pretty good. She does the lung function test & teaches coughing techniques / massages for COPD sufferers.

All of the above may not apply to your DH at all though. Blush Blush you are welcome to ignore me Grin

We also bought the Sainsbury's value custard last week! I'm looking forward to trying it out.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 11/09/2016 11:13

Unescorted my dds lunches are quite dull! Normally just a sandwich (cheese/soft cheese or tuna) fruit, yogurt, cereal bar and crisps. Probably not the healthiest but she has survived on them so far Wink Tbh my pack lunch looks almost identical Blush

Em glad you have survived your first night, am sure the crying last night was just her settling in and tonight she will be calmer.

Fluffy given your dhs history I would think you have a good argument for continuing with it if it works. Go back to the GP with your concerns/ reasons, quite often GPs will try it on with certain meds to save money but will quickly back tract if you argue with them!!

Am planning a day at home today, catching up on washing and house type stuff, will be a NSD.
