wreck, I have tickets for 'things I know to be true'. BUT. The one not to miss is 'Relatively speaking', it's been in Brighton and it's been a wild success!!!
Next time we're offered cheap tickets at work I'll bear you in mind and give you a shout.
But I want to see lots of them!!

8FencingWire · 09/09/2016 21:57

I have a few things I do in Autumn/winter, the most important one being vit d3, then taking zinc. I cut 2-3 apples and put them in a tupperware and eat them every morning at work ( I swear they help).
Sundays we have a long walk followed by soup with fresh bread. It's a tradition we absolutely love.
Fridays it's popcorn and movie night.
Hot baths with salt.
Hot water bottles.
Brushed cotton bedding.
Clothes on the radiator for the morning.
Elizabeth Arden no 8 cream for face and hands, nuxe lipbalm.

Colliefeatures · 09/09/2016 22:00

For anyone looking for vitamins for children - these are the vitamins DS takes. Before he started taking them he had chest infections reoccurring every 6 weeks. It was hell! He also has asthma. He hasnt even had a cold since taking these. They are incredible! Children's vitamins

AGenie · 09/09/2016 22:26

fluffy thanks yes I have one of those lamps. It's good but at the moment it gives me a headache when I turn it on.

Girlie Yes I am hoping that he might just manage, but I'd like to have a plan in case he doesn't.

lifelong I swear by vit d too. :-)

lilac I did wonder about that and I asked the head. She said they'd notice if it was a regular medical appt, but I suppose if we had a lot of dental and optician appts they might not notice. Smile It wasn't that often last term really.

Mummyshortlegz yes he's in year 2 now. I've only just found something he can eat that has vitamins added, so that's a major breakthrough. I'm really hoping that it will help.

cag Yes the moving groups thing is weird. I'm so frustrated by that. The Pediatrician says he's got an absolutely rock solid immune system as he never really gets a high temperature. Apparently that means his immune system hardly bothers to lift a finger. The assessment was just for tiredness. Even the school agrees that he's completely normal behaviourally now, so that's good.

Somebody on the health list mentioned flexi-schooling. It does sound great. The problem apparently is that they he's marked absent which again affects their statistics, though not as much as if he was actually ill. I will ask about it.

Thanks for the vitamin info Collie. That's been our big problem up to now, that I couldn't find a vitamin that he could tolerate. I have now. I still can't tolerate any vitamin supplements that I can find. I'm trying to pluck up the courage to try rice krispies myself. How tired does a person have to be before they can no longer eat rice krispies?

Thanks for all the ideas. Smile

ItalianWiking84 · 09/09/2016 22:39

I hate autumn, hate cold winters and would prefer to hibernate... Really not the best when you'll living in a Nordic country with long and cold winters...
I've been to Japan tho, stunning country, so modern yet still so conservative and old fashioned... But really worth s visit although very expensive.

WreckTangled · 10/09/2016 06:38

Em I want those Chelsea boots too!

I need to go to tesco today to get the bits I forgot Hmm

lifelongfrugaleer · 10/09/2016 06:49

Sorry genie I wasn't ignoring you but I didn't have any advice. Twas rude of me though.
Year 2 is more about stats and sats isn't it? Hope you get something sorted.

I also do a vitamin c and zinc once a day fizzy tablet drink thing. £2.50 from Morrison's and regularly on offer adds to ever growing shopping list

Collie are the H&B vits chalk like tablet or jelly?

Got to do a massive meal plan and shop today. Aldi, ice land, other supermarket. Feeling very uninspired.
Might see if the kids want to go to the library.

Sierra259 · 10/09/2016 07:24

em this is probably not good on the frugaleering side, but I'm sure there was a Joules discount on vouchercloud this week?

WreckTangled · 10/09/2016 07:33

Joules have 25% off today

Ememem84 · 10/09/2016 07:53

genie I've been trying to catch up a bit so apologies if I've got this wrong. Ds used to have afternoons off when needed and it helped his health? As in he was getting run down/tired etc? You probably have tried this but vitamin b12 and vitamin d?

I get injections in the winter of the 2. A couple of years ago (maybe 5 years ago) I was getting sick all the time. Turns out I'm deficient in d and b12. Which as I understand it affect your immune system. I try to be outside as much as possible eat healthy and go for boosters in Dec/Jan when it's dark cold and ick.

It seems to have helped.

Although I agree ask about flex school. My sister teaches and had never heard about it until this term. But she has a flex schooler in her class. It's scheduled flexi time I think so something like the girl has Tuesday mornings or Wednesday afternoons or something off. if the afternoons off help ds I'd def ask. You don't ask you don't get right? And the worst they can do is say no

I'm ignoring the joules 25% off...

Ememem84 · 10/09/2016 07:55

Even with 25% off the boots would still be almost £100. So. It's not worth it.

northender · 10/09/2016 08:31

Blimey the thread has moved quickly since Thursday!
Dh hates the nights closing in whereas I love the seasons.
£50 spent at aldi yesterday and £20 at Booths the day before. Had a lovely pizza tea last night, cheapo Aldi frozen pizza & I put pepperoni, black olives and artichokes on mine. Felt like a takeaway treat but at a fraction of the cost. The olives & artichokes are in jars from aldi (£2ish in total) & I reckon there is enough in the jars to make at least another couple of pizzas.
Going to football today (already paid for as I've got a season ticket) then watching cricket as our club could win their league today for the first time in 11 years.

Both dc are earning money today, dd will get £15 as usual for cricket scoring & ds £20 babysitting for some friends.

Don't think I ever reported back on my jam making, I got 3 big jars of damson & 3 jars of blackberry all using fruit that was taking up space in the freezer.

We need to empty ds' room this weekend and dismantle his fitted wardrobe as the loft work is progressing and his bedroom walls are going to have to be moved to make room for the stairs. He'll be sleeping downstairs for a little while.

Have a lovely weekend everyone

Colliefeatures · 10/09/2016 08:32

Those specific vitamins are chalky but they have all sorts for ages 3+. The ones I get are suitable for 2+ :) they are teddy bear shaped and strawberry / vanilla flavour. DS loves asking for his morning sweetie.

I barely slept last night. Today is a spendy day. Budgeting around £30 but I think we also need a mattress topper. Our mattress is a year old but it's SO uncomfortable. I don't know what to do but it's causing my whole body to ache.

Colliefeatures · 10/09/2016 08:41

SnugglySnerd · 10/09/2016 08:58

Collie I love your lists! I'm another autumn fan, walks in all the crunchy leaves are the best! We always visit an arboretum and last year we went to the apple weekend at a NT property which was fab, we'll be doing that again this year too. Also love Halloween pumpkins, pumpkin soup etc.
Just found we have a lot of lemons we'd forgotten about so going to make a drizzle cake as soon as my bread comes out of the oven so I can turn the temp down.

Unescorted · 10/09/2016 09:00

Lillac we only have a freeview box. We have never had Sky, so I can't say we miss it. If a TV programme is missed we will have a look on iPlayer et al. or play the old fashioned make up the intervening story game when we next catch it. Most programmes have the first 5 minutes doing a recap of the important bits. For box sets I wait a while and buy them on Amazon or at the supermarket as a DVD.

You have now got me thinking about the recap things... why do TV programmes do a recap after the ad break and then tell you what you will be watching only to have another ad break before they tell you. Modern doccumentaries are pants unless you have the memory of a goldfish and the critical thinking skills of a mould.

Cag great news on the sucess of your dh's classes.

Collie we had out water meter taken out because we were also paying for next door's water too - as were they. It is Severn Trent and comes in at £44pm 3 bed.

I love your lists btw... we are thinking sewing, blackberry gathering (late but we have yet to have a frost) and more bits on thhe garden (there is lots to do)

North I do the same with the Aldi pizza & their ante pasta are really good. Apparently the Booth's in Penrith is the best performing in the country, which they put down to it being really close to the Aldi. People buy the basics in Aldi & pimp things up with naice stuff from Booths. It would be my perfect set up....unfortunately I only visit Penrith.

roxannie · 10/09/2016 09:20

Love all the talk of autumn. Love this time of year Smile.
genie my kids have been knackered this week after all the chillin over the summer Smile.
Have to get going as DS wants to go for a run.
DD has dance so £10 otherwise shouldn't need to spend much.

lilacclery · 10/09/2016 09:59

Hi all!!
em that's dissappointing about the boots but a good decision.

I'm looking forward to buying an a/w wardrobe but will continue layering until I get down a size in my clothes and get a big chunk paid off my credit cards too. I've been saving money for it and by the time I go for my day out shopping with my cousin I will have about €630 saved. My plan is to spend half of what I bring with me. I toyed with the idea of just putting what I've saved against my cc balance but I feel I deserve the treat for losing weight, getting debt under control etc. Is that really wrong?

OP posts:
AGenie · 10/09/2016 10:54

Em thanks for the thoughts. The problem is that ds doesn't tolerate vitamin supplements, but he is actually getting better at that. I've found now that rice krispies and readybrek both work so I am powering them into him. I will ask about the flexi-schooling. Thanks.

collie that's a good list, thanks.

Ememem84 · 10/09/2016 11:01
