Water bill

So I've just received my latest bill for 6 months and it has increased by £92 compared to the last six months!! I am and have not used anymore water than normal.

Have been on maternity leave the last three weeks so the only thing I can think of is extra toilet flushes - would that really increase my bill so much?! Water company is sending out an engineer to check for leaks but I can't see how it can increase so dramatically

They have read your meter both times - no estimated bills? If so, and you haven't been suddenly doing loads more washing/having loads more baths, then either it's a leak or they've misread the meter. Being at home all day does make a difference, but not that much in 3 weeks!

Leaks can be underground so you wouldn't necessarily notice one.

Thanks, yes meter read both times but im wondering if it had been read incorrectly last time as ive not done any more washing etc than usual. Will have to wait and see if any leaks are found

How long have you been there?

I had a friend who moved in and then after a few YEARS her kitchen became flooded as there had been a tiny leak under he kitchen floor the whole time. Once it had been fixed etc. her water bill halved!!!!

Have you got any holiday plans? If you do I'd take a reading before and after as presumably there should be zero use?

Been here four years, the bill has always been up and down but this is the biggest difference I've ever had!

Unfortunately not going away at all and the meter is in a really awkward place out on the driveway and we've never been able to read it ourselves which is a pain. Be interesting to see if there is a leak!

Why can't you read it yourselves??? Surely if water board manage you can?

Presumably you could do an overnight reading to see if it moves at all?

It's absolutely filthy dirty and quite far down, not even sure how the water board manage to get to it!
