On my way to the airport. £7.35 on tickets and £7.20 Costa so far. Also need lunch and something for the plane, as we don't land until 9.45 p.m.

€460 budget for 11 days to cover everything except breakfast. Maybe a bit too frugal? I'll give it a go anyway.

SpaceKablooie · 15/07/2016 12:11

I love E-cloths too. I have no idea if they really remove bacteria or not, but the glass polishing one is great. Even though (or possibly because) I'm a scientist, I worry about chemicals present in different products and in our homes. I definitely don't trust companies / legislation etc. enough to not think about things like this at all.

ItalianWiking84 · 15/07/2016 12:26

Thanks fluffy and adora; that so kind of you to say Smile , I don't feel as fluent and well spoken in English as I did when we lived in the U.K. But really want to maintain it.

Need: I completely agree with you regarding the attack, it might hit France but it's hits us all , I think, that believes in freedom, liberty and human rights. Always makes me extremely sad and angry when it hits innocents esp kids. How can anybody delibrately kill a child Sad

Tobe: sorry if I offended you, was defn not my meaning to do. I've been both in the rep of Ireland and Northern Ireland and find the ppl friendly and helpsom.
I'm sure my parents were also just warned as a exstra precautions because when they were young Ira and ulster were quite the scare. This is of course many moons ago Grin.
But again truly sorry if I offended anybody.

Happy holiday creme. I'm off for 4 weeks now, yai, and when I get back I only have 6 weeks before maternity leave starts....

ipsogenix · 15/07/2016 14:33

Space lovely to know that you're a scientist too. I like e-cloths for the same reason. I'm not keep on chucking bleach around the place all the time.

WreckTangled · 15/07/2016 17:24

Nsd. Made a lovely vegetarian carbonara for dinner. Was cheap too.

SnugglySnerd · 15/07/2016 17:51

AdoraBell · 15/07/2016 17:57

lilacclery · 15/07/2016 18:50

Hi toberich fellow roi frugaleer here

Well ladies my new car is not to be, I was calculating that my credit union would be finished in a few weeks but had been working off an old statement which didn't have interest for last year & this year on it so it's not going to happen until January at the earliest. I'm content now the decision is made. I will be personal debt free for winter. Mortgage is a different story Grin

ItalianWiking84 · 15/07/2016 19:10

Nsd yesterday and today

Ememem84 · 15/07/2016 19:16

Nsd today. Yippee!

Off to France tomorrow. Have packed my backpack. And have my euros ready for buying sausages, cheeses, brioches, sweeties. Yay!

SnugglySnerd · 15/07/2016 19:18

Caught up now and DH has just returned with beer - hooray!
It is so sad about France. I must admit I do worry about DH travelling on commuter trains into the city centre every day but of course we have to live our lives. I worry that DD won't have the same freedom that I had growing up in the 90s but I have to let her enjoy her life. I'm quite a worrier though!
On a more cheery note, one more week until the summer holidays start!

Tryingtosaveup · 15/07/2016 20:23

The French killings are barbaric, and a lot of those killed weren't French. 10 of them kids.
It's heartbreaking. I can't even imagine what it must be like losing a child or other family member in such a terrifying way. Bastards.
Why France? What has France ever done?
LSD £2.09 on snack on the motorway and £3.50 on sausage ( veggie) sandwich. Yummmm.

Unescorted · 15/07/2016 20:38

Thanks for all the goodwishes - did a bit of a post and run. DD had a prize giving night I had forgotten about.

What happened in France is awful. Trying they didn't have the best colonial record plus they have a large Islamic community that are not treated very well. If you are in Paris take a trip out to some of the less beautiful suburbs. The tipping point was the ban on wearing veils at school / in public offices.

Whataboutwhathuh · 15/07/2016 20:43

£17 on clothes for Gabriel in primark, he's ten months old and grows at the speed of light! £8 in sainsbury on cling film and parchment paper and foil which I can't get in aldi. £25 on a new Jose reel. Ours broke after a decade or more of use. The weather is set to be good next week for the first week of the holidays so I am hoping paddling pool and sprinkler will get a use.

SnugglySnerd · 15/07/2016 20:49

I can't believe Gabriel is 10 months What, I remember you telling us when he was born!

babsmam · 15/07/2016 21:11

Yes, I remember the veil ban now. France is very secular isn't it. No religion in schools and the like.
They're still absolute bastards though.
Many of the people were Russian and there were Germans, Armenians, Ukrainians, Americans as well.
I was in Paris in April and there were armed police everywhere. I felt completely safe.

Tryingtosaveup · 15/07/2016 21:24

And now an attempted coup in Turkey.
I'm staying at home.
DP and I were looking for somewhere to go on holiday in the autumn, after the bees have settled for the winter....don't know where!

Ememem84 · 15/07/2016 22:09

trying usually I'd have suggested turkey. As it's cheap food is great and it's hot hot hot. But...

If also suggest Israel. Jerusalem and tel Aviv. I've been recently. And felt safer than I ever have in London. Or Paris. The security is shit hot and the police are everywhere. Also hot fantastic culture tonnes of history and food is great. And cheap.

We are planning our next trip to NZ. Bil is getting married maybe in April 17. So we'll have to save for that. So far it looks as though flights will set us back close to £2k. And we want to move house next year and have a baby. May have to do some financial juggling. Or put something (house) on hold. Or depending on hypothetical baby situation may have to just send Dh.

CremeEggThief · 15/07/2016 22:41

So, so nearly opted for Turkey instead of Greece. Shock at tonight's news, especially as there was no inkling the Turkish army were restless. There are usually hints of a coup before it takes place.

Anyway. Safely made it to Crete. It was like stepping into a warm bath, getting off the train at 10 p.m. local time. Just having a nightcap before bed. €5 for a large glass of white wine, a 7-up and a large bottle of water.Smile

CremeEggThief · 15/07/2016 22:43

Plane not train!

ipsogenix · 16/07/2016 01:40

Well done Lilac. Very sensible decision. I've done the same here. I've been getting quotes for our front drive to be redone as the paving slabs are old and several are broken and squint. I decided in the end that it's too much money though. I might hire a pressure washer to clean them and then we can try to straighten the squint ones.

I agree about Nice Trying. I've just signed up for the race for life and now am thinking back to the days when it was okay to go and do a marathon and feel confident of not getting shot. Life is very weird just now.

Your holiday sounds lovely Creme. I hope you have a wonderful time. Smile

Weird also about the coup in Turkey. There is so much in the news at the moment isn't there? It's like the political techtonic plates are shifting and every little movement needs another one further long the line to get everything in balance.

I feel as though all the political unrest is down to people wanting more and needing more, in all different countries. I reckon frugaleering here is a great answer to that. If we need less, and want less then there will be less need for conflict.

Ursulatodd · 16/07/2016 05:58

Urgh, terrible night's sleep Sad
My spending habits continue as per the last few weeks - not shopping or cooking properly for a variety of reasons (time, energy, finding it hard to stand to cook, dh is following gf diet) and this means I'm buying convenience food inc. breakfast and lunch. One week left at work then I'm going to make a real effort to stock cupboards and freezer and get back into a good batch cooking routine.

I bought two Christmas presents yesterday! Two mermaid tail blankets as seen in the Christmas bargain thread for DD and DN. £24.99.
