£24 on petrol. And I'm on holiday till the end of the week, yupee (unless they're desperate again and call me in at the 11th hour.)

PurpleRibbons · 30/05/2016 20:50

We got a ready bed thing for DD which she LOVES, we couldn't get her out of it when we got home! Also 2 large microfiber towels and I got a new fleece and walking shoes, they are Merrells, I'm very excited!

Cagliostro · 30/05/2016 23:27

Hoorah for free books! We love our RSPB bird book, it's falling apart from overuse though. :o Haven't managed a very good photo but this is our favourite visitor, a woodpecker! :) Just remembered I still need to decide if we are going to join RSPB using clubcard points. Will see what we have left after the holiday though.

We've decided to go abroad next year. When we've added up all the costs for four nights in the UK it's actually a ridiculously big spend - I am really really excited about this trip of course, but looking at the figures it's really not that different to pay for flights! My parents have a holiday club thing and they never use all their points, and really want us to use some, so accommodation would be free. We're thinking Malta as it is apparently easy without a car. :)

Went to Lidl today - if you can believe it, it was my first time there! Got a few bits, was tagging along with my parents as they needed some groceries, but mum refused to let me pay her back. So got a few bits for free, and the DCs ended up with a carnivorous plant growing kit Confused :o

Busy day tomorrow - dropping DCs off at the council adventure playground thing - they do childcare but also have 'open access' for free. DSD is working there tomorrow so she suggested it :) while they're there, I'll be going to work for my leaving lunch. I am really happy they've arranged it, as I wasn't expecting it. I am prepared to cry :o but it'll be lovely to see my friends there. And at least I have positive news to tell them about my other (self) employment options. :)

ipsogenix · 31/05/2016 01:41

I'm having a bit of a midnight feast tonight, trying to get some time to think. (So rare to have the chance these days).

I've been doing a fun electronics project with dh. Electronics parts are really cheap so you can have a lot of fun for only a tiny amount of money.

It seems a bit stormy out tonight.

PurpleRibbons · 31/05/2016 06:54

I'd love to get a woodpecker on my feeder, cag. A green one once landed on the wall for about 20 seconds and I was beyond excited!
I would also love a carnivorous plant! I might have to swing by Lidl. Don't do what my mum did, she thought her one might be hungry in the winter (no flies) and gave it cheese! It died.
Supermarket this morning and it's going to be spendy as we've run out of a lot and I want to make a protein loaf with lots of seeds and nuts in it which will be expensive. Hoping it'll fill me up more though so I stop snacking.

Ursulatodd · 31/05/2016 07:44

Supermarket for me today too - apart from our stack of beans we're low on everything too.

Spent £264 last night on a bike shed. All budgeted as part of project garden.

How far ahead in the future do you all financially plan for? Chatting with dh yesterday and he gets caught up worrying about our future careers, bigger house, better holidays whereas although I make small plans for the future (best mortgage rates, savings pots, job security) my focus is very much on the next year or two. We seem to have very different values added to ambition! I'm a frugaleer he's a dreamer!

Unescorted · 31/05/2016 08:10

Morning all - I am holiday for the rest of the week. The kids have already booked MumTax to take them to either Meadowhall or Trafford Centre. Neither is filling me with joy. I may as well cut a hole in my purse and give my card & pin number to a con man.

I have found my running mojo - it was under the sofa with the dust balls. So I will have to buy a new pair of fell shoes- my current ones are falling apart at the seams. I don't think I am going to find them in a shopping centre - a bit nieche.

8FencingWire · 31/05/2016 08:16

Ursula, I have short, medium and long term plans, if that helps, matched in savings. Long term is paying off the mortgage, medium term is saving for a 3-6 salaries fund and short term is for next yars's holiday/christmas etc.

8FencingWire · 31/05/2016 08:16

Unescorted, I love running too. What are fell shoes?

Ursulatodd · 31/05/2016 08:31

Thank you 8fencing that does help! Atm I consider my long term goal to be our 6 months earning pot (about 1/4 full) but it would be a good mind-shift to see this as medium and have a better mortgage goal in mind than 'pay as little as we can each month'!

Cagliostro · 31/05/2016 09:10

:o I shall remember NOT to feed our plants cheese then thank you :o

Weather is just horrible today! Think I will be getting a taxi for some journeys today (the adventure playground is really far from the bus stop).

Unescorted · 31/05/2016 09:14

8 They are like a trail shoe but with less padding in the sole and super grippy tread. They are for running over hills off road. walshes are the classic

ipsogenix · 31/05/2016 09:39

Unescorted Do you live in Manchester then? I had it in my head that you were in Scotland.

I do short, medium, and long term planning. I'm particularly keen on pensions and have been since my mid-twenties. My main ambition is to be able to keep my house warm when I'm ancient. Not spending all my money on stupid things is an important part of my financial planning, and not one that I am at all good at.

Unescorted · 31/05/2016 09:43

Peak District ... halfway between Manchester ( where I work) and Shefield

PurpleRibbons · 31/05/2016 10:04

Spent £81 in supermarket. Not good!

lilacclery · 31/05/2016 13:00

Hi everyone I'm finally up to date with you guys!!
What's a protein loaf purple?

I transferred our holiday funds today from the account they were resting in & I'm a week ahead of myself so we've an extra €50 to spend. I also assessed payments we put into short term savings eg car tax/insurance Christmas etc & freed up €130 there too so that's nice Grin

Been told I'm done with counselling well that the next stage is couples counselling not that I can't go anymore. Complemented on my strength of character & my sensible & mature attitude Smile

CremeEggThief · 31/05/2016 13:48

Lilac, that's great!Star

Ursulatodd · 31/05/2016 15:32

Well done lilac! (although nothing we couldn't have told you Wink) are you thinking of going ahead with the couple's counselling?

Purple il make you feel better as I've spent a similar amount today (actually more) and a big chunk of it wasn't even on anything edible! I finally got to the wool shop and spent £34. I'm really excited about starting my project but this was definitely one of the first instances that twins have meant paying double as obviously if it was a blanket for one baby it would have been half the price!

£52 in Aldi - we've got visitors from Thursday and picnic play dates before that so was pleasantly surprised it wasn't more.

£6.50 in tesco on gluten free sausages and batter mix. The batter mix was extortionate but dh is experimenting with his diet atm so we're testing out some gf alternatives.

In for the day now, it's suddenly gone really cold!

lilacclery · 31/05/2016 16:19

Ursula when we're on holidays I will broach the idea with him. I definitely am keen to.

What kind of foods did you get for picnic play dates?
I usually do pitta with filling, fruit & yogurts & would like to shake it up a bit.

CremeEggThief · 31/05/2016 16:21

Ugh, feeling awful. Sore throat, bunged up nose and aches and pains all over. Spends: I sent DS to the shop for milk, chocolate and biscuits, which came to £3.02.

Fluffycloudland77 · 31/05/2016 17:16

Creme Oh no that's rubbish. Summer colds are vile.

£2 organic milk in M&S. Paid on my cc with them so I should get £35 vouchers off them now.

£1 astonish multi surface cleaner with orange. Buav approved, vegan, smells like Cointreau. What's not to like.
£13 soy protein drink powder. Smells like custard. Tastes of NOTHING. Pah.
£3.50 shaker bottle for soy drink. Will screw lid on properly next time Blush
£3 pound shop.
£5 petrol.

New switching incentive off HSBC. £150 but you have to pay in £1750 a month Sad

babsmam · 31/05/2016 17:33

£1750 a month is a lot to pay in a month.
£45 in aldi today.

Cagliostro · 31/05/2016 18:25

Work all done. Had a nice lunch with everyone. One of my colleagues made an awesome cake as well :)

I really enjoyed it, got somewhat tearful (ok sobbed like a baby) at the end when I handed my security pass in. That was like the symbol of it really being OVER. But hugged it out with some friends before I left so all good.

:)

WreckTangled · 31/05/2016 19:06

Fluffy is hsbc part of anyone else? Might look into switching.

Hope you feel better creme.

Great news lilac!

Nsd here worked all day was out the house 6am-6:45 pm. Have had pizza for dinner now feel v bloated.
