Happy birthday, Blue Cake.

No words for what happened in Paris last night. Sad

Collieputthekettleon · 14/11/2015 11:28

Happy Birthday Blue

Just spent £1 on brioche & I withdrew £10 for bus adventures for the week (hopefully)! Horrid weather. Can't stop thinking about Paris.

SpottyTeacakes · 14/11/2015 12:29

Happy birthday blue!

Well £10 to get in and £10 on Christmas decs Blush

I think the shoes I bought ds are a bit small! That's why I don't usually buy anywhere except indi shoe shops Sad they'll for a bit anyway.

fuzzpig · 14/11/2015 12:46

Happy birthday Blue Cake

DS tried the dancing class but didn't like it. Stopped after about 10 minutes and curled up on me saying he was too tired :( thankfully it was a free trial - the other dance teacher I emailed about giving it a try wanted me to pay for the rest of the term before his first lesson Hmm

He says he's tired a lot actually, would they take blood tests from a 6yo if I asked the GP do you think? I'm not sure if it's anything to be concerned about, particularly given the many things that are wrong with his mother Blush

The other thing is that DD enjoyed watching the other dancing lessons so now she wants to do it. Which will be more expensive as she's older (and the shoes... which may be half the reason she wants to do it!)

SpottyTeacakes · 14/11/2015 12:49

They will certainly talk it through with you fuzz and take your concerns seriously Smile

fuzzpig · 14/11/2015 13:13

Thanks Spotty I'll ring them on Monday. He's certainly not tired all the time, he can be very active, but just seems to tire quickly and goes all pale.

ipsos · 14/11/2015 13:42

Thanks for the encouragement on my pay question. :-)

Really awful about the stuff that's happened in Paris. Flowers

Ememem84 · 14/11/2015 13:55

£25 on my best riding lesson ever. My head was in the right space today and managed to show pony who's boss. Felt like we were flying when we cantered about. Grin smug

Yesterday was spendy. I think. Went out for drinks and dinner after work. Probably about £40 spent. Cheque from medical insurance arrived. Annoyed at this as have repeatedly asked them to pay direct into my bank. And they have confirmed I have been approved for this. Aaaah.

Dh has been sent to shops for full fat Coke to soothe my hangover.

ipsos · 14/11/2015 15:00

Our dishwasher has gone on the blink in a very terminal way, but I looked up the guarantee and it expires in 14 days. Phew! Bosch engineer coming on Tuesday. In the meantime, I'll be washing a lot of dishes in among all the carpentry. :-)

Good idea to ring fuzz. Does he get any added iron in his diet? It's usually in breakfast cereal.

needastrongone · 14/11/2015 15:14

DD had a good riding lesson too, *em. Lots of changing paces, serpentine loops in canter. Dpony is such a contradiction, he's by far the easiest to ride that we've ever had, an old schoolmaster, someone schooled him wonderfully when he was young. But, grumpy, bargy on the ground and put him in a competition atmosphere and he becomes a loon! Which she loves Grin

Good timing Ipsos

£10 for the lesson.

Having a quick cuppa before cracking on, watching the dreadful news in Paris.

blueteapot · 14/11/2015 16:10

Ipsos I forgot to comment on your hallway! It's a lovely size and a new floor would definitely open it right up... by engineered wood floor do you guys mean laminate? We put down 12mm thick laminate in our hall / living room and we're glad we paid (only slightly) extra to get the thicker more durable one with a 20yr guarantee as they're high traffic areas and so far it seems entirely toddlerproof! Looks lovely too like a warm oak. Would definitely recommend

Happy Birthday Blue Cake

Engineered wood is a layer of real wood veneer stuck to ply/mdf. You can sand it and it doesn't warp like solid wood flooring can.

I've been pricing it up for our lounge and dh is keen. I reckon I can frugal it down to £400 plus underlay so it's warm. It's £300 cheaper than carpet would be in that room and would be easier to keep clean and smell free. It would also stop the room tipping over into old fashioned. The sofa is Duresta (cat got in there and scratched the back plus the side so it's not as grand as it sounds, could've killed him) so it could look very old fashioned if not done right. Or twee.

I'm neurotic about the house smelling too and carpet does hang on to odours.

NSD.

Tried very hard to buy dhs xmas present but amazon haven't honored the £7 voucher I'm meant to have and two live chats later I'm no better off so I've emailed the ceo to complain. Still have a tension headache 7 hours later.

Pointlessfan · 14/11/2015 16:28

Happy birthday blue and well done with your riding em, nothing beats a good canter!
Frugal win today. Haven't been to Waitrose for ages and they've been sending better and better vouchers. Wanted a few bits that I can't find in Asda so we went to Waitrose this morning and with the vouchers we got £12 off a £34 shop! Plus a free coffee and magazine.
Just made mince pies, DD "helped" so they look a bit wonky!

Girlfriend36 · 14/11/2015 16:35

Must be the day for god riding lessons, dd had a good lesson as well! That was £15, also spoke to the lady about dd having a horse riding party next year, for 8 kids, 2 hours with the horses and food it will be £160. It is a lot but not crazy expensive right? Have booked it anyway and explained to dd that as the party is going to be expensive she won't be getting a expensive present as well!!

Bought a dvd player from Argos £27.99, got it home and realised I need some cable to connect it up Angry Grr! The cable will be another flipping £10!! Very annoying but will be nice to be able to watch films again.

Also spent £8.50 approx in Wilkos on household stuff and toiletries.

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/11/2015 16:39

Is it a scart lead? Think the poundshop do scart leads now. They should make it clear on the website, if they didnt then email the ceo and see if they give you a free one.

Girlfriend36 · 14/11/2015 16:39

Oh and happy birthday Blue Cake Wine Flowers glad you are feeling a bit better. We are fellow Scorpions, it's my birthday next Saturday Smile

I think if this living wage does come in the Government is going to have to seriously up Drs and Nurses wages as well, someone working in Lidls will be earning roughly the same as a newly qualified nurse otherwise!!

Unescorted · 14/11/2015 16:41

Happy Birthday Blue

We have been into town...just a mooch aroud the shops. spent £32 on 2 pairs of shoes. With not drinking, finished with the debt repayments & dh starting work we now have money to start getting the things we really need. I felt really guilty getting shoes - it seemed so deccadent after so long.

Girlfriend36 · 14/11/2015 16:42

Its a HDMI lead? I am seriously rubbish with technology, I didn't notice anything about it when I checked ystd but will go back and look. Thanks Fluffy this is when i feel very single as normally in a couple there is one person who is more competent when it comes to technology than the other!!

Ememem84 · 14/11/2015 16:48

I think a lot of the "Goodness" in my lesson today was that I've recently had a change of attitude towards most things. I'm of the "fuck it. What's the worst that can happen" attitude now.

This was my thinking today. We had a fast canter and I relaxed into it. Something I've never done before. Managed to sit properly and use my leg to get lovely favourite pony to stay in canter.

Worst that could happen? - I'd fall off. I've fallen before while cantering. It hurts. But it didn't kill me.

Nsd today. Dh is currently making gingerbread. Yummmm

blueteapot · 14/11/2015 16:54

Doubtful girlfriend, sure we are voting to strike in December over the nearly 30% paycut that Jeremy Hunt is planning to impose on junior doctors, I would imagine nurses will be next on the hit list!

Thanks for all the birthday wishes, I can't wait for DH to come home just for some company! Have spent it wrapping Xmas gifts and drinking lemsip! Making sausage, mash, yorkies and roast veg for tea but I cant taste anything lol so more for DCs benefit :)

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/11/2015 17:13

I've just looked at a £28 dvd player on argos and it made no mention that a lead wasnt supplied it just said "hdmi cable essential extras" which isnt the same as saying you must buy this.

I bet homebargains do them too.

needastrongone · 14/11/2015 17:20

Don't get me started on the Tories blue Having dinner with some friends tonight, one a GP and one a CD, I am sure the changes will be discussed.

Happy Birthday btw.

Em easier said than done though when you are a touch older, kids have a very 'what the hell' attitude, we get more risk averse as we mature.

unescorted Don't feel bad. You have worked hard to get into this position.

needastrongone · 14/11/2015 17:21

Ironcially, engineered wood is often more expensive than real wood, as it is more durable. It depends on the thickness of the ply. Ours is thick, so can be sanded 3 times, but we got a bargain as we were having the whole house floored and carpeted.

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/11/2015 17:33

Have you needed to sand it yet? Dh is sick of me going on about it already.

ipsos · 14/11/2015 18:11

Thanks blue - We got the wood in Wickes so it's not fancy stuff or anything. We've been very happy with our kitchen and bathroom bits that came from there though, so we went there again. I'm glad the wood floor worked well for you. Happy Birthday!

Always glad to hear you bash the Tories need. Smile

I'm so glad to have all these ringing endorsements of wood floors. It gives me confidence that I am doing a sensible thing. It will really help with the dust allergies in our house and save me years of hoovering. :-) Woohoo!
