Had such a productive wkend. Made Spicy Celeriac soup, Morroccan Cauliflower soup, a loaf of bread, some cookies and an apple crumble today. Plus raked all the leaves, and did a garden tidy up for the winter.

Now relaxing with a glass of wine. NSD & DS1 brought some free chocs home from work (out of date today)!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 01/11/2015 18:14

Sorry lots you are all feeling ill.

nsd today. Unless I suddenly find the motivation too go to the laundrette in the next 1/2 hour.

november goals

  • look into opening a second current account and transferring overtime money into that
  • investigate health service discounts cashback card
  • try out ynab
  • take out the money for food shopping and use cash instead. hopefully this is going to keep me within a budget.
  • have at least 3 nsds a week

And not a frugal goal as such, but fitting in with the overall goals of eating less, spending less and moving more:

  • log 30mins of activity on runkeeper at least 6 days a week.
CremeEggThief · 01/11/2015 19:01

I had to go into town to collect DS from the station and drop a couple of bags off at a chairy shop. He came back with a huge haul from trick-or-treating, while he was in London, so that will save on buying any junk for a while!Halloween Smile

Travel: £8.30.
Lunch for me: £3.85
Rymans: £9.01
H&M: £2.99 (new key ring)
Total : £ 24.15.

spotty I use to get hormonal migranes every TOM.. since menopause i get them very rarely .. Maybe get your Dr y to check that out ? .. I found I could often knock them on the 'head' (so to speak) , by taking the migrane stuff at very first sign.,.sometimes though it did mean i had to go to sleep for a few hours.. which difficult i know with a job and small child ( I was in same boat also) . One thing helped -which is counter in tuitive accordingto the general advice- is a strong black real coffee at first sign .. It helps 'open up' the blood flow..

ursula Booking a cabin on ferry crossing is essential i think! , you can get a bit of kip , and have a shower and you get your own loo.. also get away from the hubbub for a while .. The last time I went on Brittany ferries it was only £24 and well worth it I thought ..

574ejonesand all soupmakers I just looked up the Morrocan cauli soup as it sounded so good and have come across this site .. looks like a great soup recipe resource!

Which remInds me I had better check my soup cooking on the hob . back in a bit!

needastrongone · 01/11/2015 19:43

That's a great resource laska, I am very into soups at the minute!

NSD here and a lovely walk in the sunshine with my DH and ddogs at local park.

Risotto for tea, we got home late, chorizo, mushroom, leek and worked really well, swapped tomorrows meals around.

Audit Frozen fruit works well in a smoothie, and is more palatable. I use frozen summer fruits and raspberries if I have no fresh stuff in.

ElizaPickford · 01/11/2015 19:53

Place marking so I can catch up Smile

Passthecake30 · 01/11/2015 20:13

Frugal ish trip to my mums, 89p on eggs plus about half a tank of petrol. Tummy full and carrot cake in the bootGrin

Need to book my car in for a service. Pah.

I have the Sunday night pre work blues. Always worse after a break eh.

Laska5772 · 01/11/2015 20:49

So wow what a great weekend for end Oct /eg Nov!.

Yesterday we went for long walk and i even caught the sun! Dh swam in the sea ( but he is a bit mad).. I paddled and decided it was definately too cold!

I have only spent 7.22 over the weekend, veggies, washing up liquid , milk newspaper , ToT sweets (no one came!) But Dh bought us lunch ( pumpkin soup and a pint) out yesterday .

Last night DH made a fab dinner of stuffed mushrooms ( the reduced ones I bought Friday,) plus fresh tomato sauce and mozzarella from the freezer... Yum.. we had that with rice

Today we were out sorting out the garden , I picked the last few tomatoes then cleaned out the greenhouse and put all my potted geraniums in there. Hopefully they will over-winter another year -I have about 20 large pots and some of them are three years old now .. definate frugal win this year as I didnt have to buy any !

Pulled the last of the carrots and a couple of beetroot , and have make a pretty fab frugal soup ( if I may say so ) this evening , with those plus a someof the the last tomatoes , a few chicken wings from the freezer and some garden herbs and chiilli .

We still have spaghetti squash and some spring onions and cucumbers andthe rest of the spuds to eat from the garden, but then sadly thats it.. (didnt manage to plant any winter veg this year..)

So Operation 'eat from the stores' has started quite well ..

Girlfriend36 · 01/11/2015 20:53

Laska thats interesting re the migraines, i think I do need to go back to the Dr as dread my periods these days, severe headaches, cramps, mood swings, IBS is worse, nausea to name but a few of the symptoms have had this month!!

So my mum came over tonight and it has turned out to be rather expensive! Have booked flights to Menorca which will be £350 for me and dd (my mum is kindly paying half of dds flight) will have to take dd out of school for 2 days though, going to worry about that nearer the time! Am hoping the fact that she usually has excellent attendance will go in her favour!!

Also booked theatre tickets for next Feb, this is my bday gift to my mum came in at £78 for both of us. Its to see Vincent Simone and Flavia in their latest show, my mum is a big fan of Vincent strictly.

Ipsos my dd has been very grumpy tonight due to tiredness, was very glad when she went to bed!!

lilacclery · 01/11/2015 21:04

double that sound like a lovely present for your ds.
girlfriend I had the opposite experience at hallowe'en disco yesterday last event like it I took dd & ds and spent €12-€15, this time I gave them lunch at home first they didn't charge for ds as he's only little and was dressed as a very cute pumpkin they had a Capri sun each & dd chose to buy a milky bar for sharing rather than one each total spends €7.50 & they'd a great time!

Just paid 6 months cartax had saved for 12 but mechanic owes me a bill for work done for nct so better keep the rest for that. Will aim to pay 12 months in April instead.

The tariff I want to change to for sim only will earn me €5 on fat cheese must check out the other cashback sites to see which work in Eire

Collieputthekettleon · 01/11/2015 21:07

I have a short but sweet November bucket list. I've already crossed something off. Smile it was to thank you to a stranger for something that they've done for me.

So I emailed BT Openreach to say how brilliant their engineer was who visited us a few weeks ago. He was a star. I hope they pass on the message.

So NSD planned tomorrow, Thursday and Friday. I have to source cheap wide fitting black flat shoes from somewhere. Any ideas?

Collieputthekettleon · 01/11/2015 21:08

(That was after having 3 lazy and rude BT Engineers)

Also thanks spotty for changing the thread title Flowers

Fluffycloudland77 · 01/11/2015 21:25

Dh used to get almost constant headaches and I found cutting aspartame from his diet got rid of them. If he has diet mixer now he gets the same headaches back, he describes them as a fuzzy pain. He has diabetes so full sugar mixer is out.

I also give him magensium citrate tablets, not mag oxide because we dont absorb that one as well, it's a difficult mineral to get in food due to farming methods and the type of foods it occurs naturally in.

It's also very good for menstrual and leg cramps in bed (everyone blames lack of salt for leg cramps but what are the chances of anyone in the west being deficient in salt?). He's run out and I'm waiting for an order and he's complaining of neck pain and a groggy feeling.

Anyway I just thought I'd throw that in there. It's a relatively cheap thing to try on amazon for Solgar branded ones.

laska your garden sounds heavenly. I have a tiny patch of garden and dh forbids veg patches. I love seeing a well tended veg garden.

Girlfriend36 · 01/11/2015 21:33

Thats interesting Fluffy re the vitamins, I do take a multi vitamin but not sure if thats in there or not, I have got a fuzzy head and got neck pain now!!

I know vitamin D is another one that is meant to help, may have to have a trip back to Superdrug! I try and avoid sweetners wherever poss and don't think I have them in anything regularly. How are your cats with the fireworks? My girl cat is completely terrified Sad

Thanks for the soup recipe link Laska

Fluffycloudland77 · 01/11/2015 22:00

Ours is ok so far. He's a confident cat.

The form a mineral takes seems to more important, citrates seem to be easily absorbed compared to oxides but oxides are cheaper. I think oxides are too big or too complex to pass through the intestine easily.

The good thing with vit d is that you store it, I stopped mine a while ago but cant tell yet.

I buy squash and pop in sainsburys now because everywhere else still uses aspartame including some branded squash. Robinsons is ok too. Branded pop like coke zero has it in.

I buy cheap saccharin in home bargains so that does for his tea.

blueteapot · 01/11/2015 22:10

Sorry I cant remember who is having the headache around their periods but here is the patient uk info sheet on menstrual migraine, if thats what you feel the problem may be patient.info/health/migraine-triggered-by-periods

Sunday lunch at MILs was lovely, then we just had a sandwich tea. £5 at local shop on milk x2/ butter x2/ bananas Just watched downton with a glass of vino and DH is away to the cinema. Please someone come and remove the halloween junk, I am fat enough and have minimal self restraint!

lilacclery · 01/11/2015 22:20

I find evening primrose combined with starflower oil good for totm get it in tesco. I've just had ad206 recommended to me as I'm struggling to lose weight and ds is 2 mon week & I haven't had a decent period yet. It's a hormone rebalancing supplement

Ememem84 · 01/11/2015 22:40

Dh has just exploded -accidentally-- a load of chestnuts in the oven.

Apparently you're supposed to cut into them first. Hmm

Just as well they were free

I'm trying too get a cashback payment into my PayPal ac at present. Have £5 to be paid out. Topcashback have said I need a payable balance of £0.01 to pay into PayPal. I have this. Anyone know why I can't do it?

Have emailed TCB so am waiting for a response.

Wolfcub · 02/11/2015 06:19

Collie try Evans for wide fitting shoes, they have regular sales

574ejones · 02/11/2015 06:35

Laska thanks for that, have bookmarked for later.

Pointlessfan · 02/11/2015 06:51

em we saw loads of chestnuts on our walk the other day but it never occurred to me to collect them to cook - very annoying as I have some lovely chestnut recipes to try.
Can't believe half term is over and we're back at school today, I don't feel in the zone at all, expect double year 11 this morning will soon put that right! Should be NSD and I found some brilliant homemade toddler activities on Pinterest last night so I'm going to buy hair gel, straws, glitter and Ziploc bags with the shopping tomorrow for some cheap entertainment!

Collieputthekettleon · 02/11/2015 07:06

Evans! Fab I'll look in there. Thank you Flowers

Just checked my Tesco Clubcard account. I have no Coupons Confused I have an £8 voucher though. Did anyone else get no Coupons?

PeoniesforMissAnnersley · 02/11/2015 07:24

hello all, dropped off the thread again due to work madness and PGCE madness over HT. Doing it on the job is really taking over my life!

We need to seriously cut back as the car is on the blink and DH uses it to commute to work, he works in the middle of nowhere so no public transport links. We need to save to replace it with a decent one that isn't a total money trap.

I have managed to go Christmas present free with SIL/BIL and BIL/his GF, only buying for their 2 year old and my goddaughter which I am very happy to do anyway...I ordered some Italian mini hampers for my parents and stepparents which were very affordable. DH has gone NC with his Mother so not sure if we are getting her anything, he's tried to do this before and she always weasels back in... Confused

Had an expensive HT with a trip to Spectre (why are cinema tickets now a small fortune, or is it just me??!) and to the Ai Wei Wei exhibition in London which was truly inspiring.
