Good on you both claiming the warm home discount. I wonder how much goes unclaimed every year by people who really need it.

*ohhelp8 £30? no wonder you held out.

I wonder if ofwat could help you electro? the water company put you in a bad position when you were already financially stretched. If you've got the energy for it, which we haven't always got. Did you check in the loft for the lagging situation?.

If anyone uses the survey site erewards they are giving nectar vouchers of 250 points away for nothing.

£8 on fish and chips.

Pointlessfan · 15/10/2015 20:35

ohhelp that's a massive bill for a curry!!
Invited my mum round for a birthday fish n chip supper on Saturday as it's her favourite, decided to make her a cake also so need to buy eggs now too. Feel like finances are running away from us this month.

Laska5772 · 15/10/2015 21:04

Hi again. I spent £19.99 on new headphones today as old ones broke , but a frugal win as they Sennheiser and £20 off ..
also
My ebay Bearpaw (ugg type) sheepskin boots arrived today and they are fab .. they really are 'as new' as was stated, and look totally unworn .. so should have toasty feet at work this winter now. Am dead chuffed with those, as paid £21 instead of £120 'brand new'.

Have had heating on this evening ( its gone off now , but am still feeling chilled , I do hope its not a cold coming .. will be taking my hottie to bed again ..(very soon!)

Like I say though it will be an expensive weekend chez Laska, Mums 90th and then next week we are off up to That London as have Benedict Cumberbatch Hamlet tickets!! Im not sure if i was on here when they came out , but I was so amazed to get them at all as I was 5333rd in the on- line queue on the day they released them!! .. ,( is all budgetted/paid for though). except I forgot to add in the the money for the girl feeding cat

Rest of the month has to be frugal then !! , but we should be ok for food and petrol.. only milk and veggies will need to be bought

Now talking Christmas presents.. I have looked on Mothercare half price but what I really want is a sit-on and ride pedal tractor for my grandson (3).. All I have seem have been about £100 or more! so if anyone sees a bargain , please do pm me!!
(im also going to get him an ELC tap-a-shape.. an oldie but goodie in the toy stakes I think.)

girlfriend 2 dcs, I might see about a joint Ipad and calm down. ..I don't want to get a hudl/kindle as I have an ipad and compared to that ds Samsung was rubbish, apps didn't work/load and the screen sensitivity was rubbish. And now it doesn't even turn on (after 1.5yrs of hardly any use) - I worry that anything but an ipad will let us down in the same way.

Girlfriend36 · 15/10/2015 21:54

Laska Envy would love to see that! I love BC Grin

Pass from the reviews I have seen the Hudl is meant to be pretty good, am hoping it will be a good starting tablet for dd. Might consider an iPad when she is a bit older maybe....

Ipsos thats good you had some work coming your way, balancing work vs parenting can be tricky but am sure you have nothing to worry about anyway! Your son does well to have you as much as he does, I went back to work when dd was 7 months!

Sorry just remembered a few of you suggested dietary changes for dds ENT problems, it is something i wonder about but don't feel qualified to cut out any main food groups iyswim! I noticed a health food shop locally offers testing for food sensitivities so may look into that, would feel more confident to make changes if it is confirmed that it is a food issue.

Just bought a Moonpig card for dds best friend who is moving schools after half term, got it made bigger so cost £6.20. Going to dd pick her a gift over the wend as well.

Whatabout · 15/10/2015 22:10

Laska I have this one which I paid £52 on Amazon for in February, it's very good. Set up a camel camel camel alert for when it drops in price maybe? FALK Farmtrac Tractor and Trailer www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00J3NV7E8/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_4xbiwbWB2RFAD

ipsos · 15/10/2015 22:15

Girlie I know just what you mean about cutting out food groups. It's a tricky thing. My son is back on dairy now for that reason. The tests you mention are all bogus so I wouldn't waste time on them. Might be worth having three days off wheat and dairy just to see if that's the issue. She can manage without wheat, it's the dairy that's the tricky one. If you find that dairy is an issue then she can switch from cheese and milk to just yeo valley yoghurt which is much easier to tolerate. My son was off dairy entirely but I gave him Muller vitality probiotics and it solved the problem entirely. He is now an obligate cheese-ovore and non-wheatist which is O.K. Not ideal, you know, but much better than the alternative.

ipsos · 15/10/2015 22:17

btw I found out recently that they spray wheat with weedkiller a few days before they harvest it because dry dead wheat is easier on the blades of the combine harvester. My jaw hit the floor so hard it nearly broke the floor. I got this information from a totally reliable source. What are they thinking?

diggerdigsdogs · 16/10/2015 03:29

I'm dipping in and out of the thread, I hope that's ok

Thrilled, absolutely thrilled, to say that for the first time in longer than I can remember (years) I've finished the month with money in the account and not overdrawn.

Seriously, I'm fucking beyond chuffed.

Thanks all for the continued support. Flowers

babsmam · 16/10/2015 06:25

Well done digger

Collieputthekettleon · 16/10/2015 06:37

Well done digger! Its a great feeling isnt it. We've only done it a couple of times and I'm not sure we'll manage this month.

NSD! Yesterday I ended up spending £2.29 on a headband. Fed up of my hair falling in my face. But worried that it'll make me look 12. Grin

SpottyTeacakes · 16/10/2015 06:39

Laska the entertainer has one for £50 and Argos has one for the same. I googled ride on tractor and looked at the results under shopping.

Work today got my tax credits (£70) hoping they can be used just for Christmas presents.

NK5BM3 · 16/10/2015 08:38

Frugaleers a quick question if I may, about dishwashers.

I buy those all in one tablets with the red ball in the middle. Supposedly having all the rinse aid and salt and what have yous. But my machine (zanussi, quite new) has these lights that come on when apparently the rinse aid is low or salt is low.

Surely if those all in one balls are working then I don't need to add extra rinse aid? Should I just buy the ordinary dw tablets? Or should I continue buying these ones but also buy the rinse aid and salt??

Ta!

A couple of NSDs. Buying trainers for ds as he's going for cross country and the ones at school are too tight for him now. I think he's gone up 1.5 shoe sizes. Tbh the ones at school are usually his old ones. Sigh. Have friends coming round for dinner and will be buying some pizza.

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/10/2015 09:07

I think from what I've read on mn that separate salt and rinse aid is better. The salt cleans the water softener, if that packs up it's a big repair bill or a new dw.

Try tesco daisy powder, it cleans really well. Homebargains and Lidl do cheap salt and rinseaid. The lidl stuff isnt tested on animals either.

Well done Digger. The only rules on this thread is that we have no rules, use it how you want to.

ifonly4 · 16/10/2015 10:21

ohhelp, we had something similar when we went for a curry with friends - bottle of wine, pops & pickles, main each, one naan and one rice to share, same to over £70 for two of us - completely different from our local which generally costs £33 for the same thing, and we can walk saving us even more money!

Just been to Lidl and spent £4.93. DH has offered to cook tomorrow night, so might pop into Tescos when passing for a bottle of wine!

Lovetoknit · 16/10/2015 10:33

Good luck breathless
collie could I please have your recipe for banana&choc brownies as my ds loves bananas, chocolate and brownies and hopefully it's easy enough for him to make them with me Grin
Yesterday £4 on bias binding to make bunting I promised dc and £8 on couple bits which are cheaper in Lidl then Tesco which is coming tonight after I had another voucher from them. I noticed if I don't do shopping with them every week they seem to send more vouchers out. I also got some from Sainsbury's which is good since I am trying to top up my Nectar balance so I can get new Gordon for ds for Christmas
Well done digger

Collieputthekettleon · 16/10/2015 10:34

Colliecat just meowed in her sleep and launched herself off the sofa backwards. Grin someone's having a bad dream!

Lost my Nectar card. went to order a replacement and now my account is frozen until my new card arrives.

Planning to make chocolate bark for a bday gift. Hope it'll look good!

Collieputthekettleon · 16/10/2015 10:37

lovetoknit it was this one but I added 3 bananas allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/7020/easy-banana-brownies.aspx Blush so so moist and tasty!

Lovetoknit · 16/10/2015 11:35

Thank you collie for the recipe, we made dorset apple cake yesterday with free apples from dd's ballet teacher since they were rather hard and sharp
Fish and chips from freezer for dinner tonight for me and dc since dh is going out for a free meal with his dive club Smile

digger that's brilliant, well done I've done it twice since joining here, it's a brilliant feeling!

girlie I have to agree with ipsos, those tests at the health food shops are really unreliable. The best way to find out is to do it. I have a child with coeliac, so can totally understand how daunting it is, and the fact is, it's really hard on the child to make the change. personally, I wouldn't unless her health was in a very bad way or if she was old enough to understand. (Forgive me, I can't remember how old you said she is).

Electrolux we are dying for half term here too! We've had loads on too, and really looking forward to some down time. Hope you have a lovely weekend!

Spent €4 in tesco today, needed tinned tomatoes, milk and bananas. Lasagne fir dinner tonight, found an unopened box of gf lasagne sheets, I hate using them because you have to precook them. But it's time to use up what's there! Roll on payday.

needastrongone · 16/10/2015 13:35

Afternoon.

DH has flown back home from Germany and.... gone to flippin' work, git. We were supposed to be having an afternoon together. He is such a work crazed loon sometimes.

Good news digger

I will be baking this weekend too, I have SO many eggs to use, and apples. Thought chickens were supposed to not lay in the colder months, mine are keeping right on laying Smile

collie My dogs have been to the groomers today. Ddog1 howled like a wolf the whole time, he's such a wuss!

I have started my Christmas shopping by buying DH his birthday present (November), I always marked this as the start. A basket of retro sweeties.

MissA I have ordered two hampers from Fattoria La Vialla for Christmas presents. Taken the order, but no payment.

Hoping to ensure we get through the weekend with no takeouts.

needastrongone · 16/10/2015 13:41

girlie I think I am like you, I would be afraid to make changes to the DC's diets without medical 'proof', so to speak. Especially major food groups. I think, if it were my DC, I would be at the GP's discussing it maybe? I have a GP friend coming for lunch next week, so I can ask, if you like? Although, you may have your own access to such knowledge.
