If you've had that water meter less than 2 years electro you can apply to switch back to water rates.

Was it there when you moved in or did they fit it?.

magicgirl74 · 13/10/2015 15:25

It looks like i will have nsd for most of this week,i spent £87 yesterday in aldi but i only go there once a month and my online sainsburys shop came to £84 and I won't need to do another order for a fortnight,my shopping would be a lot cheaper if I didn't have a 14 year old ds with hollow legs who is always hungry.Still no heating on here and haven't had to use the tumble dryer yet(we have a south facing conservatory which still gets warm at this time of year)as my washing is drying on airers.Still not looking good for hubbys job prospects but he should still have his job until march time and he will get a good redundancy package as he has been there for over 25 years. Its still scarey and iv even been looking at smaller properties incase we have to down size as i would rather do that and manage than stay in this house and struggle and also if we move back into town(we are living in a village at the moment)we could get rid of one of the cars.

CremeEggThief · 13/10/2015 15:50

Welcome, Bish.

Great about your DD and her hearing, Girlie. I hope you enjoyed your well earned Costa.

£3.49on mini top-up shop (loo roll, bread, biscuits and chocolate), £1.49 on mailing envelopes and £11.20, posting half of my eBay stuff, but I don't count that, as it's already paid for.

I have a rotten cold too, but have had a reasonably productive day. Going to chill for a while before I make lentil and veg cottage pie later. I've prepared all the veg, so glad of that.

Hi everyone!

lilac have you had a chance to check out the budget? Think we will be about €90 better off a month! That's if I've worked it out properly. Worth a look!

Had to put the heating on this morning. It was absolutely freezing, there was frost on the grass and a bit of ice on the car. Have it set for 20 mins at 6 for dh getting up, and ten mins at 7 for me and the children, so will how that works for the time being.

Got a letter from the bank yesterday, they are cutting our mortgage interest rates, will be an extra €25a month in our pockets!
Nsd today.

babsmam · 13/10/2015 16:43

I'm contemplating putting the heating on as it's a bit chilly.

£4 in pets at home, £6 in poundland, £7 in home bargain

SpottyTeacakes · 13/10/2015 16:47

Just spent £7.60 booking soft play for Thursday. My friend will buy the coffee and cake though!

Girlfriend36 · 13/10/2015 17:12

I know Electrolux the cost of hospital parking here is criminal, do not understand how they can justify it tbh Angry

Thanks for all the good wishes re dd, am made up about her hearing!

Have had a busy day but no more spends, got a banana and choc cake in the oven which is smelling yummy Smile salmon, rice and veg for tea.

I have had one of the storage heaters on for a while now (living room) but have managed to keep the rest of them off which is good for me (I hate being cold Wink)

Checked my account earlier and am impressed that its still looking quite good although have to remind myself that there is still quite a few cheques to come out yet!

ipsos · 13/10/2015 17:29

I'm having a week of Big Temptations. Does anybody else have those?

I keep thinking that I should get solar panels, or a wood burning stove so we could spend less on electricity and gas bills, but then I remember that putting those in would cost a lot. Then yesterday I wanted to buy a new printer to save on having photos printed at Boots, but that costs a whole lot too.

It seems to me that what's wanted here is apathy. If I can just manage to be too lazy to do any of these things, then the moment will pass and I'll still have the money in my savings account.

Ememem84 · 13/10/2015 17:48

£5.55 on lunch for me and dh. Gah. And £7.50 for parking for work. Today is the last day this week we'll have to do that though. Needed car to get home quickly this evening.

Dinner is pasta. Veggies and cheese. Then off to seeing class.

bobblypop · 13/10/2015 17:53

evening all
girl great news about dd
elecrolux are you sure there isn't a leak anywhere - withe rin your property or in external pipework? Our water bill suddenly doubled last year for no apparent reason - I rang up to question it and was told "oh yes, it does look like there is a leak somewhere" If I hadn't questioned it they would have happily taken double off me every month for god knows how long! Angry They can tell from the info they get from the meter of it looks like there could be a leak. Even a slow dripping tap can cause a big jump in cost.

Freezing here today = heating is on!

frugal fail today as I managed to spend £30 in b&m on various things including herbs, salt, etc and halloween stuff (we are hosting a party for dsis and dneice)
also £11 in the range on an Operation game that ds2 had asked for for Christmas. at least that's another present down!

I'm doing the 5:2 diet, and on a fast day today - so trying to ignore the fact I'm starving. Did make a lovely pasta bake for dh and dc though ...

Dizzylizzie29 · 13/10/2015 18:12

Thanks I am giving the soup a go now!

Dizzylizzie29 · 13/10/2015 18:14

Fail at NsD
I got 10 of fuel - my petrol light is still on and it hasn't seemed to make much of a difference to the needle. So it's fuel roulette until the 15th Grin
£1 on a big chocolate bar for myself.
No smoking since Monday though Confused

SpottyTeacakes · 13/10/2015 18:24

Well done dizzy!

I have £80 pending in my quidco account Grin

ipsos · 13/10/2015 18:44

What is usual for a water bill? We pay about £400 a year. We have the kitchen and one bathroom, with three people.

SpottyTeacakes · 13/10/2015 18:51

We were paying £28/month but since we got our meter it's gone down to £14/month as we were so much in credit.

Whatabout · 13/10/2015 18:59

We pay about £30 a mknth on water on a metre. That'll go up at the moment as in hand washing bottles twice a day. Makes me annoyed using water!

Dizzy well done on no smoking! Have you lost much weight on 5:2? I feel like I'm putting on weight since giving birth five weeks ago so looking at what j can do.

CremeEggThief · 13/10/2015 18:59

I paid £27.something for the first year in my old house, on a meter, with two of us. Then the water company adjusted it to £17.something a month, only to leave me with a bill of £162 when I moved out Angry. In light of someone's suggestion on this thread, I wonder if there could have been a leak somewhere, but I guess I'll never know now... I pay £8.50 a week in water rates here.

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 13/10/2015 19:04

We've used £35 in 4 months but it may go up with dh having more baths than showers.

If you have a meter installed and find it costs more then they usually let you swap back in the first year but having a meter focuses the mind.

Pointlessfan · 13/10/2015 19:07

whatabout we have a big curtain across our front door, it definitely helps keep it a bit warmer.
Think I'm coming down with DD's lurgy, feel achy and feverish. She is still poorly too so tomorrow could be fun! Have defrosted healthy cassoulet for dinner but really fancy a big pile of stodgy junk food. Going to have Asda pizza and onion rings on Friday as a cheaper alternative to a take away. DD still off her food so a lot is getting wasted as she can't manage more than a couple of bites.
Sorry I'm wallowing a bit, will try and be more positive!

Dizzylizzie29 · 13/10/2015 19:21

I have done a mixture of slimming world and 5:2. Have lost a lot but recently have been out with friends(hen do/wedding etc) and drinking alcohol which I don't normally do and I feel bloated and awful.

Excellent news on the hearing! It's like a little miracle you must Be so happy

Ursulatodd · 13/10/2015 19:23

NSD today! We need a few household things (loo roll, kitchen roll, polish etc) so il pick those up tomorrow.

Our heating is on and me and DH have begun the annual thermostat battle. Every time we pass he turns it up and I turn it down!

ipsos snapfish are doing a deal atm - download the app and get 50 free prints a month for a year (so 600 free prints over 12 months)

Collieputthekettleon · 13/10/2015 19:36

Great news girlie! Bless her.
Well done dizzy that's fab.

Spent £1 on milk today. I also spent my £1 Nestlé coupon so I'm pigging out on a free block of milky bar.

Tomorrow I'm hoping to make £20 by selling a vintage handbag.

Girlfriend36 · 13/10/2015 19:53

I'm pigging out on junk food Blush I think its the colder weather makes me hungry Grin

I pay a bloody fortune in water £54 a month Shock have queried it a few times and told its right Confused God knows how for a 2 bed flat with 2 people living in it! I checked if I would be better in a meter but because we don't have a shower and washing machine etc is used daily it quoted me about the same.

Pointless hope you feel better soon.

CremeEggThief · 13/10/2015 19:56

I've caved and put the electro fire on in the sitting room tonight, as I don't feel well and it's bloody freezing!

OP posts:
CremeEggThief · 13/10/2015 19:59

I'm also in a jumper, bed socks and under my fleecy throw and was still cold.
