Won't be going anywhere tomorrow, DH is doing a half marathon but he's getting a lift.

We are feeling disgruntled. DH hasn't heard back from the interview, it's safe to assume he didn't get it. Fair enough but to not have heard back at all is just rude, and seems to be becoming par for the course as it's happened a couple of times now. Surely if they've only interviewed a handful of people they could take a few minutes to let the unsuccessful candidates know?! Angry

Underwhelmed456 · 10/10/2015 20:08

Can I please join?
I've been lurking for a while and we've steadily been getting into more and more debt.
I try ynab but have to keep 'starting again' as we go off track.

My main issue is that DH is totally uninterested in our finances. He's the main earner but has no clue about our monthly outgoings or why I'm always telling him to rein it in.. It's not just him though - because we're not doing it together it's very hard to stay motivated and I find myself spending money I don't have and then I hate myself for it.

Every time I broach the subject with him he just freezes up and says its fine and it always turns into an argument.

It's the only real issue for us and it makes me so unhappy.

Has anyone been here and can offer me some tips?!

AuditAngel · 10/10/2015 20:35

I need to speak to DH when we are out tomorrow. I need him to pay the £375 he owes me into the bank, or I will be £100 overdrawn in 2 weeks, assuming I take out no more cash.

I told him last week I needed it, now he will have to actually do it. (I may need to borrow DD2's birthday money)

Oh well, I also need to apply for the finance for the solar panels. It seems funny to say I am about to get some debt, but the projections we have show we will be better off by about £83 a month. I hope they are right (or, as they have promised, that they are under-estimating the benefits)

Have been looking at holidays for next year Blush

We were talking about another Center Parcs holiday, at the same time as DH's brother and family. Easter, is about 60% more than half term in May, so hopefully May. Cost will be about €700 (including taxes and sheets), only deposit to pay initially, then Eurostar was £164 last time.

CremeEggThief · 10/10/2015 21:23

Fuzz, how annoying they haven't been in touch with your DH about the interview! Very best of luck to him in his half marathon.

Welcome to Underwhelmed456Smile. I hope you find this thread useful.

Today has been a bad day for spending.

£40 on car food. This will last about six weeks.
DH needed new clothes for a work trip he's going on on Friday, £120 on clothes and £4 on parking.
DH took DS1 to the shop for a treat £16.

Im quite annoyed at it all, the cat food can't be changed as its so good for him compared to a cheap one. I'm concerned how much husband is going to spend on his trip. Though its work it is never just work spends.

Lovetoknit · 10/10/2015 21:40

fluffy lot of the wood we cut up today is wet so it may take 3-6 months before we can use it, the second woodstore is for all the wood which needs drying out; it is a very simple structure we build next to dh workshop

fuzzpig you have all my sympathy about your dh job interview, same happened to dss when he started applying for jobs at 16; most companies didn't bother to get in touch after interview which made it really hard to keep him motivated to try again, will keep my fingers crossed so you will hear good news soon and good luck to your dh for tomorrow

welcome underwhelmed456

Pointlessfan · 10/10/2015 22:00

Bugger - spent £16 today. Went to buy some new bibs for DD as hers are really tatty. Decided to nip in M&S for a chocolatey puddingy treat and ended up buying a few nice beers. Have also drank too much and tomorrow is my turn to get up early with DD. Off to bed...

Pointlessfan · 10/10/2015 22:02

Underwhelmed you will get loads of good tips here, it's a lovely supportive thread. Welcome!

Welcome underwhelmed

£10 ish in bandm ran out of blue tac and sellotape.

£7 in morrisons on bread, bacon and sausage
Nsd planned tomorrow. Kids shattered after birthdays. Can look at Christmas now

toobreathless · 10/10/2015 23:28

Hello, thank you for the welcomes.

I had a cheap week, swimming for me & DD2 £3.60, parking (3 lots of 3 hrs) £3, £4 co op top up shop. That was it Monday to Friday.

Unfortunately today was expensive!

£72 ALDI
£79 sainsburys
£33 Amazon.
£3.50 15kg potatoes from farm shop.

Potatoes will last 4 months.
Amazon was Xmas presents for god children/nieces and nephews x 6 plus a book for DD1 stocking.
The food shop will last probably 2 weeks with minimal topping up and including a lot of toiletries, loo roll etc. I am now 39 weeks pregnant - due on Thursday! So we have my parents arriving tomorrow who will be staying locally in their touring caravan - they didn't want to stay in the house and get in the way bless them! Then my in laws will come over when baby arrives too and stay 2 nights so have menu planned to feed 4-6 adults and 2 children. It also included £8 on spices which will make enough chilli spice mix up to last 12-18 months. Normally our food budget is around £60 a week.

Our meal plan this week:
Tomorrow: children: moussaka and corn on cob (leftovers from today) adults chicken Caesar salad.
Mon: lentil cottage pie for all
Tues: chilli and rice, children left over lentil cottage pie
Weds: chilli and rice, children probably spag bolognaise from freezer stock
Thurs: all veggie lasnague with garlic bread
Fri: all all veggie lasnague with green salad.

Then lunches will be jacket potatoes, homemade soups (will be making minestrone, butternut squash and coconut and red lentil) or sandwiches.

fuzz how rude and disheartening for your DH.

underwhelmed hello, I am pretty new here too :)

I will be spending tomorrow waddling around, taking the girls swimming (£3.60 and free parking on a Sunday) and listing stuff on ebay. I have been very successfully selling on ebay for years now. Hope everyone else has a good day.

ipsos · 11/10/2015 03:34

Sorry to hear you're feeling under the weather Collie. Have you tried sticking some soothing music on youtube and doing some ironing? It works wonders for me. I don't know why.

I think I need to learn about keywords and things for ebay. I definitely didn't get it right this last week.

babsmam · 11/10/2015 07:13

Hi too too. Sounds busy. Good luck with dc2.
I'm shattered but can't sleep bloody hip is hurting. House is a wreck so cleaning up today. Maybe play Park if it's nice but dd will probably want to stay in her Pj's

babsmam · 11/10/2015 07:16

Ipsos have you tried searching for sold items in what you want to sell. The ones that sell well have a look at the listing to see how it is written. Sometimes its just luck but I had a few successes by learning like that

Unescorted · 11/10/2015 08:10

Morning all.

I spent yesterday outside - I went running and then out for a walk. Somehow we ended up in a pub... Blush

Babs I am cleaning our wreck too. The boys are out on their bikes and dd is away this weekend - I can crank the music up and wail away to cheesy pop without being told to pack it in.

Fuzz that is rubbish for your dh. Although I know at ours it can take a month for them to make a final decision and offer.

northender · 11/10/2015 08:23

ipsos £33 is a bonus, don't dwell on what it could have been, it's money you didn't have before. Fwiw I always avoid Sunday evenings if I'm buying but end my sales on a Sunday pm. I think it makes a difference.
Had friends to stay on Friday night & they stayed until late last night. We had an amazing day out yesterday with them. We spent the day in the Arnside/Cartmel area (just south of the Lake District) & spent money on train fares, food & drink & managed a 5 mile walk with some fantastic views. Not worrying about what we spent, it was such a good day.
I put a shoulder of pork in the oven in the morning and it was falling off the bone by the time we got home & just needed crisping up. Ds declared it the best roast ever Smileand there is plenty left for pork, stuffing & Apple sauce sandwiches today. It's easily my favourite roast now & is amazing value. This piece was £13 and will end up providing at least 10 generous portions but tastes like a much more expensive cut.
Should be an NSD today

northender · 11/10/2015 08:28

babsmam hope the pain settles soon

SpottyTeacakes · 11/10/2015 08:32

I used to work for a company with three different eBay shops.

Your best time for selling is Sunday evening 8-11pm with a ten day listing starting at 99p.

Your title needs to be key words, it doesn't have to make complete sense grammatically.

Unescorted · 11/10/2015 08:34

North I love that part of Cumbria. There are so many beautiful out of the way places in Cumbria that are unvisited - everyone does the honeypots and trip over each other.

And good call on the pork - I take the skin off before cooking and do it seperately in a really hot oven (with the spuds) while the meat rests and the gravy is being finished. I love the Porchetta recipe that Felicity Cloake does. It gives a shoulder joint a fab flavour.

Collieputthekettleon · 11/10/2015 08:45

I just spend £22 ordering new bedding & duvets. It'll be delivered to my mums as I'm away. I had a £10 off voucher too.

One of my October goals was to get my Nectar balance up to £20 via nectar surveys and Coupons on what I usually buy. It's on £22.95 already! Very happy about that. It was on £18 a week ago!

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/10/2015 08:57

Ooh collie I'd love to do that but I cant find the bit for surveys, could you do a link please?

ipsos · 11/10/2015 09:09

I'll try that Babs. Thanks. I think I am often in too big a rush and take rubbishy photos too. I need to work on that.

Thanks for the tip north

I just made a frangipane cake as a tray bake instead of a cake shape. I think it more or less worked. :-)

Wolfcub · 11/10/2015 09:10

I had a bit of a disaster the other day and dropped a bottle of bleach on my washing pile ruining my two favourite, and most comfortable, work skirts. Need to nip to Sainsbury to buy new now but not budgeted for. Ds also ripped the knee out of his last half decent pair of jeans

Unescorted · 11/10/2015 09:26

wolf rip the other knee out and hey presto a v. on trend pair of jeans. Grin

I must clean the house & do the washing ( I will keep the bleach away from the clothes mountain)
