Success!!! Packaged account reclaim -Natwest

On the off chance that this may help someone else, I complained to my bank about unfair packaged account charges (they had told me years ago that it was the only account available to me due to lack of credit score history and that it would improve my rating) and they basically told me that I had no case at all and everything had been legit.
I was unhappy with being fobbed off so wrote to the Financial Ombudsman, they gave me a form to fill out and asked for any correspondence I had which I provided. They said it can take up to 12 months to get a reply.
That was about 3 months ago and now out of the blue I have had a letter from the FOS saying that before they have actually looked into the case they contacted Natwest and informed them I had taken things further and that if I will agree to drop the matter they will pay the £800 in fees back and £700 of interest. Success!
I hope someone else feels spurred on too.

Well done, I also claimed back packaged account fees (I was told I had to have the account to get an overdraft - rubbish) and also for a long ago credit card and overdraft protection fees - altogether I got back around £17k and did NOT (for anyone else reading) use a claim company. Enjoy your refund!

Wow - amazing, I had £300-£400 last year from a PPI complaint with Natwest so eeking closer to 2k but 17k is absolutely amazing. Well done. Wine

Well done, those packaged accounts really piss me off. I can't login without being offered one.

I tried to do a ppi claim last year and they all ignored me. It was odd.

Ooh I tried this and got a no back from Natwest. I've been meaning to contact the ombudsman fir ages..I'll do it today.

Packaged accounts can be good, but at the time the benefits were - free breakdown cover (I don't drive) Free mobile insurance (I didn't have a mobile, this was before everybody did) free travel insurance (chance of travel would have been a fine thing!) So the benefits were of no use to me and they plainly told me I could only have an overdraft if I switched to a packaged account
Fluffy try again! they are obliged to acknowledge your claim even if you are not eligible for repayment.
Anyone reading, if you do believe you were mis-sold keep plugging away, but PPI and packaged accounts were OK for some people.

Absolutely do it Sally and Fluffy - it's so quick to fill out the form and you've nothing to lose and a whole lot to gain. Go for it.
