If you don't pay they can enforce the debt, often by a debt collection agency and eventually a court order and ccj. Can you call Stepchange for advice? They will help you freeze interest and negotiate a repayment plan

Hi there,

We're moving this thread over to our Credit Crunch topic.

TBH my experience was just that they wrote lots of letters and called me a lot. Some of them were passed to debt agencies but a lot of them are just a separate part of the same company and they don't have much power to enforce anything. None of my debts were ever referred for court or CCJs - generally they won't bother unless they think there's a realistic chance of them getting any money out of it. So depending on your circumstances, there might not be much that happens, but it can be annoying dealing with the phone calls. Stepchange can help you write letters to get them off your back - sometimes you can offer to pay as little as £1.
