OK so we live in a rural area but just to say that village coffee mornings/jumble sales etc are great for buying plants for the garden at about 50p - £1 each that would cost £5 at the garden centre.

I agree. Also a lot of keen gardeners who have surplus stock will put it outside their gates with honesty boxes.

Also, there can be local Facebook pages for swapping plants.

look out for non -profit making nurseries near you-they may have disabled people working there.They sell really cheap plants.

...or speak to anyone you know with a big garden, they'll have plenty going.

still can't believe Monty Don was recommending buying and planting cow parsley, though. We're forever digging it up!
