Penchant for peach slices...?

If any-one is at all interested I have been conducting a survey into quality Vs value vis a vis the peach slice. Tesco and Morrisons value range are good quality at under 40p a can and yummy to eat with occasional nobbly bits that can be discarded with ease. Asda good price but utter garbage in quality. They are green, slimy and taste awful. I would not feed them to any living animal.

Ah, but slices in syrup or fruit juice?

KatyMac · 20/02/2015 21:09

I like the ones in Jars - they are easier to store both before & after opening

Mummify · 20/02/2015 21:11

This is a genuine public service announcement! Thank you!!

Doowrah · 20/02/2015 21:13

Erroneous labeling determines 'light syrup' in Asda's case. Not sure about Tesco's and Morrison's as quality assessments made on previous evenings and the efficient recyclers have whisked away my empty tins already....apologies.

Love Lidl's tinned peaches

KatyMac · 20/02/2015 21:23

have you not come across Jars? I love them

Doowrah · 20/02/2015 21:30

I had not and lo a whole new range to include in my survey, many thanks Katymac.

Sadly, I am not being serviced hence possibly my overly zealous interest in peach slices.......hmmmm glad to hear Lidl holding it's own out there.

They sit in the fridge once open and you can use lots or just a few - I find them better value than a tin as sometimes I need enough for 2 children & sometimes enough for 9

(I childmind)

BertieBotts · 20/02/2015 21:34

40p?? Tesco value used to be about 12p 10 years ago. They were fine. Sometimes a bit of left over stone attached to the slice.

Doowrah · 20/02/2015 21:42

12p?? Heady times.

How much is a jar please? (Item out of stock on link so no price)... Doorway did you buy them all?!

onepieceoflollipop · 20/02/2015 21:50

Doowrah I mean, apologies that my autocorrect renamed you as Doorway!

Waitingonasunnyday · 20/02/2015 21:52

Thank you for this! My grandad loved a Tesco Value tin of peach slices. He'd be pleased to know they are still top!

fiverabbits · 20/02/2015 21:57

I eat Tesco value peach slices but as I don't like the syrup or fruit juice I drain them into a sieve. I used to have Lidl peach halves but the last lot were very hard. I thought the jars were very dear, if I don't want a whole tin I put half into a dish and put them into the fridge, they keep for days.

Doowrah · 20/02/2015 21:57

I could not find a price either...in my mind I had thrown caution to the wind...money had become no object...and then I remembered I am posting in Credit Crunch.I have not bought any-more as yet but there is always tomorrow and I am sure Katymac will know the cost...

KatyMac · 20/02/2015 22:13

So do I

I have some in the fridge...back soon

KatyMac · 20/02/2015 22:14

Dh does the shopping, sorry

It's cheaper that way he buys what is on the list & only what is on the list

WireCat · 20/02/2015 22:15

If they're in syrup, rinse them off.

QuiteQuietly · 21/02/2015 16:48

Poundland have three tins in juice for £1 at the mo. Not many left in my local store now though as I have stocked up... They are better than the Sainsbo's ones (syrup ones are ok and fruit juice ones are to be avoided) and on par with Waitrose (55p in fruit juice).
