Bantam have you looked at led bulbs for the kitchen? They last 20+ years. Ikea, homebargains do them or led hut are good because there's always a discount code floating around plus you get cashback.

Homebargains are cheapest for standard bayonet, Edison and gu10 bulbs though.

£3.50 anti histamine syrup. The tablets have my allergen in them
£8 pepper mill. Dh insists he likes pepper, never seen him eat it though.
£2 rinse aid and pasta sauce.

Brittany that's awful what a horrible man!

Nk, ask for a huge salary, that'll put them off. Or make you rich.

bantamgirl · 27/02/2015 17:58

Fluffy - I think they are the sort I bought for the kitchen. I've replaced three, just got another three to go. The local hardware shopkeeper talked me into trying them when I was trying to buy ordinary ones. They're £5 each from him - is that a competitive price or am I being ripped off? I might go look at LED Hut

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/02/2015 18:12

£5 is good! Aldi has them soon. Think they charge £4-5 each.

MissMysticFalls · 27/02/2015 18:52

£60 for DS's swimming lessons, but he's the only one in his class at the moment so they seem pretty good value. £160 to pay for professional piano movers to collect the free piano we've been given (but we were given that by DM and some money for getting it tuned). Yes, free from lovely people on freecycle! I'm so so happy.

Few quid on veg and eggs from the weekly market but you can't say fairer than £1 for six free range large local eggs I think.

Just realised that tomorrow is the last day of the month so I can send in two more invoices Smile

I heard this week that an ex-colleague has died. Much too young and quite out of the blue. We weren't in close contact but I'm thinking about her a lot at the moment and it's another one of those times when I'm reminded that for me, work needs to be about earning enough to keep the wolves from the door and to get a good night's sleep (not worrying about money), and the rest of the time should be about spending time with the people I love and enjoying what we have.

NK5BM3 · 27/02/2015 19:09

Omg mega expenses on car. Confused Dh's car went in for mot. To be fair we've been having to fix some things for a while now, but he was made redundant 3 years ago, which was the same time we started being frugal... Anyway, the bill is something like £500+!! Hopefully that will fix it and perhaps we need to think about getting a newer car. Mot costs and repairs are sometimes not worth it I think?!!

£12 on a wash and valet for my car. It looks really nice and new now. Probably for the next 24h... Bloody kids. I said I'd take the money off them since it's all their food and drink spills!

Put in my claims for the travel etc yesterday. Hopefully get it back in a couple of weeks. At the moment I've got that claim (£78), another claim from my work (£15) and some money coming in from somewhere else where I did some small consultancy (£171). Hopefully it all comes in soon.

Happy weekend everyone. I have a food shop to do which I might do at a cheaper town because I need to go there anyway to buy ds a new school jumper. The butchers there are the people I got my Christmas meat pack from and the £50 pack was really really good. They have a £25 pack which looks quite good. And they usually have a Saturday market where we can get the veg and fruit. And I'll get bread and milk from Iceland or whatever's there.

Pointlessfan · 27/02/2015 19:56

Happy weekend!
NSD but DH's birthday tomorrow and we are going out for a meal. We might have a daytime outing too with DD but the weather forecast isn't very good.
Do you have to get new light fittings to have LED bulbs? I'd love to get some as our halogen bulbs never seem to last very long.

CremeEggThief · 27/02/2015 20:25

£1 for DS's bus fare to Scouts, £3.50 in Tesco and £15 on a Groupon offer for afternoon tea for two. I thought it would be nice for our Mothers' Day outing, but when I rang to book, they're not doing it on Mothers' Day. Oh well, we'll still use it and it is a good deal, but I am a little disappointed.

Happy frugal weekend, everyone Smile.

CremeEggThief · 27/02/2015 20:25

Happy birthday to Lilac too. Enjoy your meal. Wine Cake

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/02/2015 21:46

LEDs are mostly retrofit, if you have really old step down transformers you might need new ones.

TeWiSavesTheDay · 27/02/2015 21:48

£26.59 - equipment for business plan
£1.40 - party bits.

Happy Birthday Lilac Cake

bootygirl · 27/02/2015 22:11

€120 in tesco today. I prefer to shop at aldi much quicker and it's bit cheaper but I need to get some things there every so often.
Anyway €5 pocket money to ds1 for class thing.

bootygirl · 27/02/2015 22:22

Happy birthday lilac ??

bootygirl · 27/02/2015 22:24

By the way guys. I came in €10 on feb grocery budget! Yeah.

AdoraBell · 27/02/2015 23:25

£5-ish on sandwiches for DDs and a piece of cheese cake for me in the supermarket café.

£34-ish on groceries including some easy To stick in the oven things for DDs.

Am laid low with a chest infección and not up To cooking. Had To Go out though as the only card I could use for an on line shop has Nothing in the account. Need To remedo that ASAP.

Will catch up later.

TeWiSavesTheDay · 28/02/2015 07:03

Wow, €10 booty! You did really well.

Will be spendy today. Just reserved a gro clock because I'm fed up of being woken at 5:30!

SpottyTeacakes · 28/02/2015 07:08

Will be spendy here too. Going to Lidl and Tesco. Will do two weeks I think. Also need loo roll washing powder shampoo etc. Need petrol going to go to tesco and fill up using fuel save (never usually use it as its over 20 miles away). Will have the dc in tow too. TeWi we've been up since 5:15.

TeWiSavesTheDay · 28/02/2015 07:11

urgh. 5am is mot morning. Sympathies Spotty!

DS is in a horrible mood too just to make life exciting...

Pointlessfan · 28/02/2015 07:17

I sympathise, DD finally seems to have stopped waking in the night but has started to get up at 5.20 instead, she used to sleep until about 7. It's actually not too bad on work days as I have to be up at 6 anyway but this morning it was like some special form of torture! I expect 11 months is too young for a gro clock though Sad Hope it works TeWi.
Going to make use of the time to make DH a birthday cake and do some other bits of baking plus a birthday means French toast for breakfast Grin

SpottyTeacakes · 28/02/2015 10:20

£58 lidl
£38 tesco
£45 full tank of petrol!

A bearded hero in lidl helped me pack my bags I actually think I love him. How kind!

bootygirl · 28/02/2015 10:34

For those with dc's that find it hard to go to sleep you can get lullaby milk. It's naturally high in melatonin. Well actually anyone not allergic to milk can take it.

I have been tracking spending since 15th of February I am wondering if you guys compile them in any special way that would be helpful to stop over spending?

Got a wopper of a Visa card bill to pay! I had to take it from savings but I refuse to pay interest! Anyway use tesco one and the points have just paid for our accommodation in Spain! Saving €410! Flights for four and travel insurance and late checkout and bed linen fees €910! Only public transport and portaventura ticket to pay for. Although they re part of ds1 birthday treat. My nephew is living there so he is going to help us get the best deals! So excited. Ds2 has additional needs so family trips ect can be very very stressful. But we feel it's important for both that we at least try! Sorry gone off topic!

I have €200 in the spending pot! We don't go too wild when away. Hoping to have at least €800.
So need to be super frugal between now and June.

bootygirl · 28/02/2015 10:36

Spotty that's lovely!
I did tesco shop last night and it feels like a gym workout!

lilacclery · 28/02/2015 10:37

Haven't caught up on posts yet so just posting my bargainous trip to fruit & veg shop €19.49 for an aubergine, butternut squash, 2 chillis, 1 garlic bulb, bag of carrots, 4 pink lady, 3 huge cooking apples, bunch bananas, 5 plums, 12 clemintines and one bag of haribo Smile thrilled. The service was great and dd4 loved picking out the produce.

Smashed my hairdryer on Wed morn so purchased a Remington 2400w on sale this morning for €26.39 this is a salon grade one & double the wattage of my last one.

Earned €60 towards my girly shopping trip by selling my old iPhone. Also my aunt gave me €20 for my birthday so that's in the fund and my mother gave me vouchers to tune of €50...the fund is building!

SpottyTeacakes · 28/02/2015 10:41

Yes booty especially with both dc. Mine go to sleep really well they just wake early. I think Ds might be nearing the end of his naps Shock

Hi all, I know I'm late to this but I was wondering if I can jump in for March's thread.

As of yesterday I became a single parent and have had to give up my job so really need to sort my finances. I was paid yesterday so I have £270 in my bank account and need to stretch it out until I get my benefits sorted.

How does this type of thread work?

Fluffycloudland77 · 28/02/2015 11:24

Well Sbag you post daily spends & try to reduce bills though swapping providers & lowering useage.

I will post the old moneysaving threads later.

£26 lidl
£4 magazine (bought it for the nails inc varnish
£10 aldi (£6 cat food)

£8 sainsbos. Total food spend £38.
