Gosh, it's not ok at all if you get severe headaches and sinus problems from having the heating on Alpaca Shock
That must be terrible when it's very cold. What do you think is causing it?

LittleBairn · 14/11/2014 20:05

countess I can assure you my wedding cost a shit load and I can only get 1 proper meal out of a chicken but I do genuinely keep our temp to 15 when we turn it on, think we've got at least another few weeks yet.

We lived without central heating through some of the worst winters we've ever had (snow up to our knees) so it seems luxurious to us.

My mother despairs, telling me this wasn't how I was raised! Hers is currently on at 30.

I think its the heating- I have always been like this, I would rather put on a jumper and socks than crank up the heating that makes me feel ill.
Its gloriously chilly atm Grin
I cant stand it hot !

Fishstix · 14/11/2014 20:49

No heating oh here yet this year. We have a log burner and that stays lit day and night, but is very efficient so we manage on one basket of logs and a shovel of coal per day to keep it glowing til the morning. When it gets below freezing we'll have the hearing on for 1/2 an hour in the morning before we get up and another 1/2 an hour in the evening for bath time, and use a little more wood and coal.
Installing a woodburner has been the best move we ever made. Saved us £400 in oil in just the first year we had it. Will have paid for itself by this year, had it for three.

18 here but the thermostat is in the hall way. The baby monitor says it's 19 in the bedrooms and it feels warmer than that in the kitchen and living room, 20 ish I'd guess.

MeganChips · 14/11/2014 20:56

22, and I still wear a jumper. I can't stand being cold.

That's for about 3 hours in the evening, I don't bother in the morning.

alpacasosoft · 14/11/2014 20:56

Can I ask a question ?

Do you have the thermostat set all year round so if it goes below 18C it comes on whatever?

I have mine on as late as possible and turn it off asap- so its turned off 9 months of the year.
Isnt that normal? Panics.

17.5 I always thought that was average room temperature, just googled on account of this thread turns out I was wrong. I dont mind wearing a dressing gown tho before putting heating on.

Pantah630 · 16/11/2014 09:40

Ours is off for most of the year, with thermostat on 0, turned the thermostat to 13 two weeks ago but heating has only come on a couple of times in that period, still unseasonably warm down South. Wish the miserable rain would do one, I prefer cold and crisp, wet and damp plays havoc with the handling of my bike :(

alpaca we too turn the thermostat off. It goes on some time between late nov/dec till March.

LittleBairn · 16/11/2014 09:56

We are in Central Scotland.

Chumhum · 16/11/2014 10:00

21, I turned it down to 20 last night but it was too cold this morning. I have it on for two hours in the morning and then again from 2.30 ( in time for kids back) to 11. I'm at home during the day and if I find it cold I out it on, but don't always need to. My gas and electric costs me £250 per month.

cece · 16/11/2014 10:12
  1. sometimes 20
BuggersMuddle · 16/11/2014 10:28

21 or 22 when anyone is in and up. Lower overnight. It's a combi boiler so it is never switched off as such. I don't have 'when do we switch the heating on' debate because it just starts to come on when the temperature falls low enough.

Radiators are on higher in the living areas and we also have a gas fire.
