What temp do you have your heating set to?

That's it really :/

Knowing what others have theirs on doesn't help. Not one bit. There are too many variables!

Placement of the thermostat is one. A heating system works to the thermostat - if the thermostat is nearish to a radiator the heating will turn off sooner than if the thermostat is in a hallway with a draft. It will turn off before the sitting room has reached temp if the thermostat is near the rad in the hall way.

I have a remote thermostat, if I put it in the sitting room it gets to temp quite slowly (big open room) but if I take it into the study with me it gets to temp quite quickly (much smaller room). The temp is set the same.

Does that make sense?

alpacasosoft · 11/11/2014 20:14

Not switched it on yet - it isn't cold enough.
Log fire in the evening and cat if it gets really coldGrin

juneybean · 11/11/2014 20:16

I don't currently have a thermostat installed annoyingly (previous owners took it down so as to not confuse elderly mother)

So at the minute I put heating on for 30-60mins if I'm feeling cold and set it intermittently for mornings and evenings.

PinkSquash · 11/11/2014 20:17

I have a remote thermostat, the heating is set to 20 and is only on in the evening and half hour in the morning. The heating is switched off atm as it's warm enough in the sitting room.

CaulkheadUpNorth · 11/11/2014 20:21

19 for an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening (8:15-9:15). We have lots of candles and some big blankets.

Redcoats · 11/11/2014 20:24

19
We only have the heating on for an hour in the morning and a couple of hours in the evening at the moment.

Thesimplethings · 11/11/2014 20:29

16.5 in our house overnight. We do notch it up to 17.5 at bath times or if we are in all day.

However we have new windows and heating system, double convector radiators throughout so even tho the heating goes off when it reaches 17 the radiators take a long time to cool so we are usually toasty. Anything over that it gets too stuffy for me.

januarysnowdrop · 11/11/2014 20:34
  1. But we do light the log burner if it's really chilly and have one nice warm room in the house. Hot water bottle season has definitely kicked in.

18 for 75 mins in morning and then back on at 3.30 for an hour or so. It will be on longer when it's colder and might even be put up to 19 early evening while DH and DD have showers before being switched off.

For some it will depend on where they thermostat is located. If it's in the lounge where you can easily close door, it will soon warm up to a higher temperature. If it's in the hall, they are often large areas, you'll have people coming and going more so will often find it will stay on even if set at a lower temperature.

wonkylegs · 12/11/2014 14:30

20.5 - it's set to come of for a while in the morning, and in the afternoon from 4.30.
However our new insulation / new double glazing showed it's worth the otherday when the heating engineer turned the Heating off whilst he was fixing a part on the HW circuit and forgot to turn the programme back on. The temperature over the next 16hrs (when we realised it was off) only dropped to 19degrees despite it being zero outside. Really not bad for a house that a year ago could be described as a typical big old draughty Victorian villa.

Gfplux · 12/11/2014 17:41

21c on for an hour or so in the morning and the evening.
No heating in bedrooms
Heating on in bathrooms when occupied.
Now using an app on my smartphone (Samsung) to take meter readings each week to measure consumption.
App is called meter readings
Very easy to use and just as much fun as pen and paper.

alpacasosoft · 12/11/2014 18:35

Blimey I cant believe so many people have the heating on!

Its not really cold here daaaan sarf .
Do you all live in Scotland or am I just tough and not a southern softie? Grin

  • disclaimer no teeny little DC here or those who need heating on due to age or disability.
alpacasosoft · 12/11/2014 18:36

Lucyccfc · 12/11/2014 22:48

When I am working from home, I have mine on at 24.5 for about 3 hours in the morning. Judging by what everyone else has said, I think I may need to turn it down!

LightastheBreeze · 14/11/2014 13:34

20 if we're sitting down in the evening, 19 in the morning for about an hour or 2, otherwise it depends what we're doing if we're busy doing stuff sometimes don't turn it on or have at 17-18c.

MrsPear · 14/11/2014 14:19

I have the heating on 5 - 7 30am and 5 - 9pm. In the morning it is set to 15 until we get up and i turn it up to 18 so when the boys have eaten they can have a warm bath. In the evening it is still at 18 until the boys go to bed and then i turn it down to 15.

MrsPear · 14/11/2014 14:21

Oh and i live in rented ground floor flat with no neighbours on one side and crappy double glazed windows

KirjavaTheCorpse · 14/11/2014 15:43

17, can't stand it any warmer.

Gunznroses · 14/11/2014 15:47

23.5, we live down sarf!

googoodolly · 14/11/2014 15:52

Fifteen, but it's only been turned on twice for an hour or so since September.

SoonToBeSix · 14/11/2014 16:50

22-25 , I have arthritis and baby twins so it needs to be warm.

CeeloWeevil · 14/11/2014 19:38
  1. Lordy, reading some of these posts has made be think that I'd better toughen up Smile
TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 14/11/2014 19:41

Nah, we're all showing off. It's a Mumsnet secret competitive thing like having a very cheap wedding and getting 6 meals from a chicken.
I don't mean it's not true that we have our thermostats this low, but you're getting a skewed sample.

alpacasosoft · 14/11/2014 19:50

I feel ill if the heating is on TheCountess and get severe headaches, sinus problems etc so I don't put it on until I have to.
Is that ok with you Hmm

My thermostat isn't on because I haven't put my heating on yet !
