Stampeding through a sensible, scrimping September!

Thought I'd do the honours Smile

With kids back at school and autumn weather drawing in we all need a very sensible September. I'm putting up my thermal curtains and refusing to put on the heating until October. Who's in?

NSD yesterday. DS has started piano lessons so need to buy the required book and a keyboard for practising. Ouch.

FantaSea · 25/09/2014 09:15

needastrongone I have also signed up for the Tesco orchard fish programme. They have told me they will be sending me £4 in vouchers but this was over a week ago and they haven't arrived yet? Have you got yours?

NK pleased your DD's birthday went well, it sounds lovely Smile

My luxuries are Fairy liquid, Dove shampoo and a clean car. I put mine through the car wash for £3.20 every couple of weeks Smile

SpottyTeacakes · 25/09/2014 09:17

Fanta you'd hate my car Blush it's filthy!

I also only buy lurpack butter

CoolCadbury · 25/09/2014 11:00

I think I must be the queen of branded goods Blush

listsandbudgets · 25/09/2014 11:59

Off to buy The Mirror for the Aldi voucher in a bit. Just thought I'dd remindd the rest of you.

Cherrypi · 25/09/2014 12:03

What voucher is it please lists?

listsandbudgets · 25/09/2014 12:16

£5 off a £40 spend. Newspaper is 50p so effectively its £4.50 but still worth having I think

Cherrypi · 25/09/2014 12:49

Ah thanks.

girliefriend · 25/09/2014 12:51

£71 in Morrisons Shock not sure how that happened.

Will make that last for two weeks though.

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 25/09/2014 12:56

65p for diet coke. Other than that, NSD.

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 25/09/2014 12:57

I won't even bring up how filthy the outside of my car is. Blush I try to keep the inside relatively clean though.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 25/09/2014 13:11

I am still waiting for Tesco fish vouchers as well orchard are usually slow up to 3weeks from signing up.

Off work at mo with sore throat n cough normally would go in but at 31wks pregnant I need the rest to fight it off - although must stay off Amazon.

Just had bundle sleepsuits arrive off eBay all next got 7 for £4 Inc postage and all in ok condition better than couple other bundles I brought I am a fussy moo though - gave up with boot sales people were selling really old bobbly stuff n stained things!!

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 25/09/2014 13:13

Oh Alice I think my car is blue under the grot although the dirt covers the knocks n scrapes I have been a rubbish driver while pregnant this time ok not driving it's the parking I lack spacial awareness so go near no other cars now!! Inside varies on cleanliness on how early I get to school for pick up n clean it out to waste time :)

FantaSea · 25/09/2014 13:15

Alice I am the opposite with my car - I like the outside to look clean but the inside is filthy. I blame it on ferrying around all DD's teenage friends!

east oh that makes me feel a bit better about the Tesco fish vouchers, thank you. Hope you feel a bit better soon Flowers

574ejones · 25/09/2014 13:23

NSD today and yesterday. Shocked at how much petrol we bought in the last month (£270) just on one car, I haven't filled mine up since August. That's about £50 more than budgeted for but have spent less on food. Tomorrow may be spendy as I am going to the Stitching and Hobby show in Exeter! Must start with the Christmas shopping...

Glad To hear that MissA is out of hospital now.

Alice - my car is filthy inside and out!

needastrongone · 25/09/2014 13:32

My car is usually filthy inside and out. However, it has a puncture (sustained at work, therefore paid for at work), so the tyre is getting changed and the inside and out are having a full valet. Stick two dogs in and all the pony stuff, that won't last long!

Fruit and veg delivery day today but no spends other than this. That's about £28 for an enormous supply. The veg will last a full two weeks, I might have to top up the fruit and we all use a lot of fruit for pack ups.

fanta nothing from Tesco here either so must not have started I guess.

helena good news about the pay rise.

I am smiling at different folk sticking with different luxury goods. For example, I only buy cheap loo roll, but I bet you guys rarely buy fresh ground coffee Smile But I agree, the little 'treats' things keep you on track for the main goal.

Microwave - we don't have one!! I had an ancient one from my very first house, bought at age 23. It was still going when we moved three years ago and I am 42. But I was seriously worried that it was still safe, just based on how old it was. Only use it to heat jacket spuds anyway so we haven't missed it. I am a bit anal about clean, uncluttered work surfaces in the kitchen if at all possible.

Apart from our first Christmas, when I needed to heat the Xmas pudding and I had to send the DC running over to our neighbours house!!

listsandbudgets · 25/09/2014 14:22

I now have the mirror. It does have the voucher in it and also some vouchers for specific products e.g ham for 79p rather than £1.89. Does anyone know if I can use all those vouchers in the same transaction as the £5 off one as there are a few things there I'd normally buy anyway.

I also got a box of 9 eggs, a loaf of bread, a pot of plain yogurt and a can of kidney beans as I've just discovered we've run out and I want chilli con carne tonight. For some reason I have 4 cans of chickpeas and no kidney beans think I must have picked up the wrong cans in Aldi last time I was there.

£4 altogether. The co-op gave me a £1 off when you spend £5 voucher which I'll probably use next week - its our nearest shop so tend to use it for quick top ups.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 25/09/2014 14:29

One thing I am liking is 4yr old just started school beg Sept n was half days til this week but now full time and gets a free school lunch hope New government keep this (must be due a government change at next election) for all ks 1 as such great idea, he has eaten things this week he wouldn't eat at home or prev at childminder or nursery. Saves us money on pack lunch n hassle of making them (I wouldn't pay £2.30/day for school dinner)

confusedandemployed · 25/09/2014 15:19

Hi lists I got the Aldi vouchers too and spent almost all of them in the same transaction - it was nice to get vouchers for things I would use for a change. I did give them to the checkout lady before she started scanning.

I spent £45.83 in Aldi after all the vouchers were deducted. Included in that was a chicken, some diced beef, ham, lamb mince, cheese, treats, loads of fruit / veg, various storecupboard stuff, 8 pints milk, some Nuby pots for portioning out batch cooking for DD, 2 bottles of wine and some Jim Beam. I really don't think that's bad at all!

Fluffycloudland77 · 25/09/2014 15:45

£3.70 co op on lunch and a mirror. £5 petrol.

I joined dh and I to the co-op reward scheme. I got the cards today with two vouchers each for £2 off a £10 spend so I'm hoping that includes alcohol. You sign up on their website.

I'm going to get the mincemeat in Aldi, home made mince pies are so much nicer than shop bought.

If we're lucky the orchard coupons will come through tomorrow but I'm not holding my breath. I'm going to fill the freezer with kippers.

FantaSea · 25/09/2014 15:59

needastrongone ah ok thank you, no-one has them yet then Smile we have a 'locum' postman at the moment for some reason, and I have had various neighbours' post so I did think that perhaps my Tesco vouchers had gone through someone else's door.
