Thought I'd do the honours Smile

With kids back at school and autumn weather drawing in we all need a very sensible September. I'm putting up my thermal curtains and refusing to put on the heating until October. Who's in?

OP posts:
SpottyTeacakes · 23/09/2014 14:26

£2.80 on some lunch

furcoatbigknickers · 23/09/2014 14:50

Nsd. I've been in all day with a banging headache. Luckily dd1 and 2 make their own way home frim school and dd3 is being dropped off by my lovely friend. I' m supposed to take dd2/3 swimming but don't think i can fave it.

oneofthosedays · 23/09/2014 16:36

Spent £15 taking the kids to mcd's for a treat/hassle free tea and will spend 50p on a snack at DD's dance class tonight. Will also need to fill the car with petrol - £45 - but that's in the budget.

Need to get the cats new collars this week too as they have both lost theirs along with their engraved tags Angry

furcoatbigknickers · 23/09/2014 17:53

£17 on a dominos

Sixforgold · 23/09/2014 18:15

Hi everyone, we're moving so fast!

Get well soon missa and everything crossed you will stay mended for a good while yet!

oneofthose and furcoat I could have gone for one of those hassle free teas myself tonight! I got home late from a meeting and felt 'meh'. Did manage to make the planned bubble and squeak but cba to cook the chicken to go with it so essentially we ate a big plate of mushed up sweet potato with a vat of gravy Smile.

Sensible September is going ok here. We have now paid our deposit for a two night break in late October but this really has been the only non-sensible purchase. I went through Christmas bits lastnight - just one thing to buy for dd and her stuff is done! As is my niece and my dad so feeling quite chuffed that I've spread the cost by picking things up here and there (luckily dd is so young I can get away with second hand books and a pack of pants as they're just as exciting to open!)

Karenthetoadslayer · 23/09/2014 18:19

I am glad I joined this thread. Minimal spending, just milk, post office, bread, margarine. Under £5.

I am going to make a massive batch of scones and freeze half (and probably defrost next week).

SpottyTeacakes · 23/09/2014 18:27

I'm so cold. Pretty tempted to put the heating on but will resist!

furcoatbigknickers · 23/09/2014 18:40

I had the heating on this morning spotty.

girliefriend · 23/09/2014 18:45

£2.40 on school dinner for dd, otherwise nsd.

Payday Friday Smile

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/09/2014 18:49

I'm wearing thermals. Dh knows better than to ask about heating.

I opened a savings account. I'm going to skim what I can straight into it at the end of the year pay a lump sum off the mortgage & my tax.

No word from morrisons yet.

SpottyTeacakes · 23/09/2014 18:54

We have storage heaters so can't just pop them on for an hour Sad I've got a cold nose!!

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/09/2014 18:58

Oh lord I hated those storage rads. Are you electric only?.

You wouldn't mind if they frigging worked.

SpottyTeacakes · 23/09/2014 19:08

Yep no mains gas for miles around here. Plus our sitting room has the stairs in so all the heat goes straight upstairs!

FantaSea · 23/09/2014 19:23

It is cold isn't it? I may relent in the morning and put the heating on for an hour or so.

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/09/2014 19:28

I wonder if you qualify for a warm home discount?. Sse policy on warm home is as clear as mud.

My mil misses out on it because she's not on pension credit. She's a few quid over the threshold.

SpottyTeacakes · 23/09/2014 19:33

Don't think so, we don't get any benefits as such (small amount in tax credits likely to stop in April). Might get dp to make me a hot chocolate!

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 23/09/2014 19:34

No heating yet here. Chilly, but just piled on the layers of clothing. Grin

Spent £15 on birthday present for close friend, and then a tenner on McD's for tea, as we stayed at friend's house later than planned. And I was tired. (and lazy)

Passthecake30 · 23/09/2014 19:49

£2.49 on discounted spot cream and the usual £22 on getting to work

Changed duvets from 4 tog to 9.5tog this eve...was freezing last night! No heating on yet.

ItalianWiking84 · 23/09/2014 20:46

It's getting cold here too, winter is fast approaching... Need to find the winter duvets soon from the addict...
Spent 29£ on a fisher price toy for dd, but was on offer with 35%. The supermarket have all their toys on sale with 35% off so will go tomorrow and see if they have other things that I can save for Christmas Smile

listsandbudgets · 23/09/2014 21:16

Utterly appalled with myself:

Pub £15 (2 rounds)
lunch £10

£25 and nothing to show for it unless you count a lovely time with friends I've not seen for 2 years as they've been abroad and they're going back for who knows how long next week. I decided to losen the purse stings :)

lilacclery · 23/09/2014 21:53

listsandbudgets you can't put a price on friendship. Thats just only a £1 a month to maintain your friendship since you last met!

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 23/09/2014 22:02

lilac exactly. My friend wouldn't have batted an eyelash if I'd have just gotten her a card for her birthday, but she has really been there for me, especially over the last year or so which has been particularly hellish, even while she was going through stuff of her own. I value the friendship, so I wanted to be sure that on her birthday I could give her a couple little treats that I know she wouldn't buy herself.

oneofthosedays · 23/09/2014 23:21

Well petrol ended up being £48 and I did half my food shop tonight which was £48 (should have been £58 but had a £10 card after a complaint I made about one of their products).

Got x4 energy saving light bulbs for my awkward up-lighters in the living room for 89p each - supposed to last 10years but not much faith in that so bought more than I needed and will put the spares away.

Will do the other half of my shopping in aldi tomorrow but not much left to get, mainly fruit and veg, shouldn't be more than £20.

chocolatedonut · 24/09/2014 00:48

Fluffycloud thank you for sainsburry code.

NSD.

notaflamingclue · 24/09/2014 06:24

At last. NSD yesterday. Today I need nappies from Aldi and a few bits of fruit /veg from the greengrocer. Big shop on Fri or Sat so mustn't get more than I need.
